... turkey?

what mundane animal are you most looking forward to ganging up on (and fleeing in terror when two show up) with five other friends?

There's something uniquely cruel about a group of 6 people ganging up to hack, slash, stab, light on fire, and shoot a creature that's already been dead for at least 300 years. Poor dodos. I bet they don't even aggro.

Btw, link needs editing. There's a "]" getting tacked on at the end there.

Edit: Here was the OP's pic: http://www.finalfantasy14-online.com/screenshots/gamescon/analyze_dodo.jpg

One of my earliest experiences with FFXI involved killing crawlers. I've always enjoyed fighting them. Also goblins are fun to kill.

I'm surprised no one said WORMS! I loved worms... nothing better than killing a few worms before work.

Worms.....when you get brave and attempt to take on one more before resting and realise you made a huge mistake. Then as you turn to run away, the little thing kills you with stone.

OP's post got me thinking... has it been confirmed anywhere that the max party size in FF14 will be 6 members? With all the diverse abilities and stances for each job, I wouldn't mind smaller party sizes.

Average party size is 6 to 8 people.

Edit: http://ffxiv.zam.com/story.html?story=21841
Quote:
- Generally, how many members should a party consist of? Will there be Alliances?

A: Basically, we're thinking 6-8 people. However, we also plan to make the game flexible, so you could have a little more, a little less, or even go solo and still be able to adventure when you like. Of course, we are also planning challenges that will require the strength of an Alliance, as well as party vs. party elements. Essentially, we're look to add aspects to battle beyond simply the exchange of damage.

bsphil's "giant enemy crab" reference didn't come from Power Rangers.

However, to answer your question, I didn't. I think I was in my 20's when it first debuted.

Well it was actually a "Dis" I shall say since that's what you old people used to say.

When he said "flip over the enemy to hit their weakspot to deal massive damage", I have no clue how you thought "real time weapon change".

To flip over someone meaning to actually flip over someone. The crabs weak spot being is rear.

Whether he was serious or just ******* peoples chains I don't know.

I can't wait for the new rabbits.
One of the best stories I've seen on these boards (wish I could remember who said it to give them credit)

When I was just starting out in FFXI I saw a level 75 DRK and asked for some advise to a new player. I thought he was being a jerk when he said to me " No matter where you end up going to grind, there will always be a rabbit who can and will kill you."
Years of playing the game have shown, he was dead on right.

Maybe this will explain it:

Wikipedia's entry on "Giant Enemy Crab" wrote:
The meme originated during the demonstration of Genji: Days of the Blade at the Sony E3 2006 press conference. The producer Bill Ritch claimed that Genji 2's epic battles were based on "famous battles which took actually took place in ancient Japan." Almost immediately after this was spoken, the gameplay footage demonstrated contained a boss battle against, in his own words, a "giant enemy crab." Popular memes originating from the Genji demonstration included the game features described such as "you attack its weak point for massive damage" and "real-time...weapon change," despite neither of these being at all new to video gaming, being staples of classic 1980s games such as Metroid. In IGN's E3 2006 wrap-up, they listed a number of Genji 2 quotes.

I know it is not really the topic, but I would like to fight more actual "people" mobs. In FFXI it was just too few battles where you actually fought a mob that was humanoid. Don't get me wrong, I want to fight monsters/"regular" animals too, but a little more "humanoid-fighting" than FFXI wouldn't hurt imo.

Agreed. Enemies should be enemies or monsters. Wildlife should be scenery.

I'm 50-50 on that. I feel like it would be a little odd if the areas immediately outside of towns are populated entirely by monsters, as opposed to wildlife. I feel like you should have to travel a little to run into the really nasty-looking stuff.

It helps if the wildlife looks a little ferocious though, at least. Bunnies and sheep just don't quite cut it, although I loved the irony of a player killing hordes of sheep, then getting mauled from behind by a giant one like Steelfleece. Pugils seemed ok for example, with their long jagged teeth.

As a RNG in FFXI, wildlife worked ok because I felt a bit like a hunter, especially when I was farming.

Hopefully that is where the Garlean Empire will come in, and hopefully heavily. I agree with this, I could do away with the concept of beastmen entirely, I want enemy soldiers and magitek armor to fight, @#%^ orcs I'm so sick and tired of them.

It's an exp party, mages don't attack, that's why they even gave the offensive mage class support abilities.
