Personally I enjoyed doing the quests and getting the class specific gear just because it looked snazzy to wear around for any class.

Even if its not particularly useful again I'm still hoping for something similar in 14.

What about you guys?

I really want AF armor, but I also want it to actually be useful this time.

Back when I first heard about XI (I guess it was about a year before the PC release), I saw how cool the AF armor looked and one day I wanted to look like that. Yeah... I was highly disapointed. Though at least I got my cool RDM pimp hat :p

Yeah it'd be nice to have awesome looking base armor then be able to alter color/minor features like spikes or be able to make like a custom symbol that goes somewhere on the armor.

I also liked the questside for AF but i wouldn't mind if they lower the amount of quests so that 2 or 3 classes need to do the same quest.

I hope they find a good balance between questing for good gear and encounters.

I think the number of quests they had was fine. It's been a while since I did AF questing (like three years now, I think) and if I recall, there's only three unique quests, everyone does the same hands quest, and then one coffer piece. I really enjoyed the story behind some of the AF - thf was my first 75, was my true love as a job until I got to endgame and I was just a th ***** and the occasional SATA "lock agro onto the tank" WS guy. Anyways, the story behind the thf af was quite a bit of fun. I'll admit I didn't pay as much attention to my af for my other jobs (nin was pretty fun, too), but after 6 jobs at 75, I just blazed through the quests so I didn't have to worry about it anymore. If they have the same involved story for class AF for each class, I'll happily do all five quests for all five pieces... just so long as they don't give me something like: go to Beaucidine Glacier with your item. Leave it in the snow for x amount of time to purify it. Return after jp midnight. ><

We really don't know how armor is truly going to work in the game yet, so keep that in mind. In fact, if you go to the official website and look at the items a blacksmith can craft you'll notice a peculiar thing: they're all weapons and weapon related.

My current theory is we won't be equipping individual pieces of armor, rather entire sets. It would solve the old hodgepodge ugly armor sets that result when you're wearing red gloves, a purple hat, green pants, a blue body and and brown shows. This is an MMO, not a disco strobe light.

What my current hope for the AF set in FFXIV would be a mutliple part quest that you can either solo via guildleves system, get the one armor set, or possible do with a small group for a slightly stronger set. And maybe even you can have both at the same time.

But the AF sets were a huge success in XI, they'd be fools to ignore it, and every indication from the website pictures is they won't.

I enjoyed the story that went along with the AF armor. Even if there aren't any actual AF sets, it would be nice to have a quest and story for a set of armor that is somewhat decent at some level.

Though without knowing how the armor system will work it's too early to tell what they'll do. Perhaps we'll have to quest it all (that would get annoying), or perhaps it can be made, or perhaps it will be dropped from monsters, or perhaps we'll obtain it from some other method.

I enjoyed the storylines as well. I felt like they really fleshed out the classes, and made you feel a bit special. It'd be nice to see some aspects of that ported over to FFXIV.

On another note, I'm hoping that we'll see some bonuses that come from equipping a full set of armor. It was a bit annoying to have to mix & match AF with another, more useful set. It created some really ugly armor combinations.

I would like to see AF armor in FFXIV, and I would also like to see some sort of upgrade system that utilizes it. It's been almost 3 years since I last played FFXI, so I can't remember 100%, but if I recall you didn't need the original AF armor in order to upgrade to AFv2 (but you needed the original AFv2 to upgrade to the AFv2+1). I'd like to see a system where you can actually use and upgrade the gear throughout the game and subsequent expansion packs, rather than just dump it in your mog house and never touch it again when you're through with it.

I dunno about this - unless the entire set has a bonus that's good for all abilities you're currently using, it doesn't make sense NOT to mix and match. I mean, let's say you're a healing Conjurer. Why wear an entire set of matching armour that has one really good bonus for your healing, but the rest is more dps based? It's severely limiting to force entire gear sets on people. Unless they're going to totally simplify the gear system. But having 10+ gear slots (head, hands, feet, waist, back, chest, rings, neck, weapon, ammo etc.) seems to be fairly standard across the MMO board.

Don't forget, crafters are going to be able to dye gear - hopefully ANY gear, not just gear they make. So the mismatched gear problems will hopefully be a thing of the past. I mean, if they provide us with a decent amount of inventory space, it won't be such a big deal to have an "in the field" useful but ugly set of gear and an "around town to look cool" set. ;)
