Question on DoH and DoLFollow

The one thing I have been wondering about the DoH and DoL is this. Say you were fishing, harvesting, blacksmithing, etc etc and a monster aggros you and starts to attack you. What are your options? Are they just to run away? Cause I know it's been said that you can't switch weapons/class in battle, but it seems kind of lame if you are totally defenseless when outside a Discipline of War or Magic. Any news on this?

All we've been told is that DoH/DoL will have only limited fighting ability. I think the idea is that you'd do your traveling as a combat class if aggro was a potential issue, clear around what you want to gather if necessary and then switch to your gathering tools to grab the goodies before switching back to a "real" weapon and carrying on. Unless/until we get more information from SE on the actual combat abilities of the profession classes, it's all just speculation at this point.

Actually, didn't they say you could only see the nods if you're in the gatherer class? In which case, I guess you could travel to potential spots you know about but that's about it. If you're in a really dangerous place you'd have to be careful. Otherwise, you can do some fighting, so you can try to defend yourself.

Also possible that you do not have to be in active mode while being attacked. You didn't have to be engaged in XI to pull aggro and get owned, you prolly won't in XIV either. Switch weapons real quick and whackaway.

Who says it's even possible to solo the monsters aggroing you in said zones on any job? If there are any, take mining for example, mining points in an area like Mt. Zhayolym, you really don't want to be fighting anything there alone no matter what your doing, for the most part. We will probably see some similar sneaking/invis meds/spells that allow us to get around w/o molestation.

Edit for robustness

This is where teamwork comes into play as well...say you need to mine in "Ifrits Cauldron", you obviously can't solo anything at any level so you get a group of people together say they need to do some guildleve quest there, and you tag along to mine...as a trade off you can cure their weapons/armor for them as they move along. Just an example, obviously Ifrits isn't in this game (i think).

Q: Before heading out on an adventure, you can change your class at whim, but are there any limitations to this? For example, only being able to carry 3 weapons, and thus change between 3 classes, at once.
A: At this stage, there are no limitations in place. However, there is the possibility we may adjust this as we go forward.

Q: Can you change classes in battle? If it's only possible when not in "battle mode," could one just sheathe their weapon and then change classes?
A: In FFXIV, there is a Passive Mode, wherein you recover HP as you move, and Active Mode, which is when your weapon is in-hand and you are poised to fight. Players can only switch classes while they are in Passive Mode.

Q: Can you switch between these two modes at will?
A: Yes, you can change modes anywhere you like.

So it looks like you can switch if your in passive mode. Hope this helps out.
What I'm thinking is when a monster attaked you you stay in Active mode till the battle is over.

It never says that if you have aggro and are being attacked or anything of that sort. The only thing it says is "when your weapon is in-hand and you are poised to fight." Nothing in that statement alludes to aggro or being attacked. Only attacking.
