WoW is guild. I doubt it will be called that. It might not even be called linkshell.

SE hasn't released anything about a "cross world player grouping system". Some things you can count on are that one will exist and it will be called something unique. SE rarely uses standard D&D names.

I thought I read somewhere that it won't be called a linkshell and they have a different system for XIV... If I find it, I will post it. But it was a while back so I may have some troubles.

I'm thinking they might revert to the FFTA/FFXII name of clan. Honestly, I'm more concerned with implementation than naming though.

It would be nice to know if we'll have the freedom to have multiple shell/organization/guild/clans as in FFXI or the more structured system of other games (which, while occasionally annoying, also has benefits)

Managing a roster in FFXI was atrocious, as any LS leader with an ex-sackholder gone rogue will tell you. The person could pop in and break pearls then unequip the shell and the shell holder couldn't do anything about it, etc.

There are guilds in FFXIV,but if the "linkshell system" will be considered a guild as well is still unanswered as far as I know.

I'm personally hoping for three things:

1) Don't call it guild. Or clan. Something original.

2) Make a system similar to linkshells where you can belong to more than one group at a time, rather than being limited to one and only one group. I found it a lot easier to make and maintain friendships with people when I was juggling 3-4 pearls than when I was forced to stick with one, and joining a new one meant leaving my old one behind.

3) Better management, specifically, the ability to promote/demote/remove members when they are offline or not in the LS. Someone who really wanted to be disruptive in FFXI could very easily jump on LS, blurt out whatever, unequip pearl, then repeat it again 2-3 mins later. So long as they were in and out before anyone could break their pearl, they could continue it.

I wouldn't mind calling it guid, just so people immediately know what I'm talking about and as not to confuse terms, but it doesn't really make much of a difference.

I do agree there needs to be a way to manage guilds when members are offline. Like in WoW you can see who all is in the guild, who's offline/online, etc. at all times. Course, if you can have multiple guilds and multiple jobs on the same person you couldn't use the exact same type of interface, but some similar would be nice.

FFXIAH is capable of listing whatever you last logged in as, as well as multiple linkshells. The SE Linkshell community site did it too. I can't imagine it would be THAT difficult for you to show up by name and whatever job/level you are (or were when you logged out) in multiple shells (or whatever they'll call it)

I personally don't care what it's called. So far guilds are where you find guildleves and I think are connected to your class (there's a blacksmith guild, an herbalist guild, a pugilist guild). That could mean that guild will be used for player associations as well or it could mean the name is already taken and another will be used.

Like I said, I don't care but I will care if I they choose another name and I let slip the word guild, the most common name for the concept used in 90% of MMOs (if not more), and then get complaints by fanboys who can't even spell Legolas or Sephiroth correctly (something that often happened when I tried to get back into FFXI after a long WoW stint). I hate people like that and will massacre, in any way possible, someone who does that.

Didn't FFXI use the term guild to refer to the crafting organizations? Culinarian's Guild, Tanner's Guild, etc.

It will probably end up being like that, where "Guild" refers to "The place you go for your crafting needs" and the "Worldwide social organization groups" have a different name entirely.

Based on the names they've announced so far, I'm guessing Linkshells will be known as "Wunderfubbins" in FFXIV.

In a world where Taru are Lalafell and Monks are Pugilists, it seems SE seems intent on avoiding the duplication of naming anything what it was called in FFXI. If anything I'd be more worried about SE calling them Líňk'sĥęlls at this point...

I think SE will call them something completely different. I wish we would get more info on what they will be called and maybe some explanation as to how it will be setup. Oh well, waiting for more info as usual.

If FFXI is any indication, hang on to that feeling of "waiting for more info" and learn to love it :)

Seriously, I really do wish SE was more forward about releasing information. They really seem to hang on to the idea that "not knowing" makes the game "more fun", and under normal circumstances I would be inclined to agree, but they stretch that logic to EVERYTHING from accuracy to elemental resistances to what days/times actually mean to how to beat AV.

There's still so much **** in XI that, to this day, people STILL don't know what the **** it's for (See: Doll Gizmo, Ebon Panels, etc).

Again, I'm not saying they need to tell us EVERYTHING and completely ruin the game, but a little more disclosure a little more frequently would not be an unwelcome thing.
