Could this 12 be referring to the Lucavi or the Zodiac? I know this has been exclusive to Ivalice only, but I wouldn't mind seeing it always liked them. Also in addition to this if zodiac does play some sort of role which has never been announced, I liked in Tactics how you were able to put in your DOB and I believe there were benefits depending on your sign. Nothing game breaking just small stat differences or something, I like the idea of stats being based off zodiac sign rather than race personally.

Unfortunately that would never work. People would all find out what the stat boosts are, and all of a sudden everyone would be born in March, or any given month, just to get that particular bonus.

Then you'd have people shouting "LF Gladiator, March Zodiac Sign onry!"

As far as the Twelve, I have no clue. >.<

Sounds interesting. Would add some personalization if you could choose the Zodiac sign of your character. Only downside would be if you wanted to focus on one set of jobs you'd be stuck with one sign or something. Hopefully they won't do that.

Maybe choosing your element translates to choosing your zodiac sign, or maybe rather your "god".

They used this system in the Elder Scrolls games. Only they let you pick what sign you were born under and each sign had a pretty cool effect on you, and each effect could really help your playstyle.

However I don't think the stats would be anything too great other than a small bonus. For example there are racial stat differences during character creation during Xi, but yet you don't see people /sh'ing for a mithra or a galka just for their racial stats. And I'm sure upon entering DOB during creation would let you know ok as a Virgo I get Dex+1 or as Pisces I'm a HP+2 just as examples but each sign would be something equal across the board but something small as a start-bonus. I can see people /sh'ing for a Cancer just as much as you see someone /sh'ing for an Elvaan in Xi. Maybe perhaps a bonus on your birthday, but don't see anything past that. I'm sure they would find a way to give this bonus to those of leap years perhaps on the next closest available day or something.

Also as for the 12, not saying the Lucavi/Eidolons are gonna be summons in the game since I'm sure they would play a different role if they even exist. Also in Xii I think they made these 12 "dark" and created 12 other "light" counterparts? Not to sure on this.

One possible solution: Give the signs small "rotating" bonuses that activate during their calendar month. It could even be pretty in-depth, with "allied" signs giving different bonuses than the character's birth sign, and "opposed" signs giving slight penalties. For example:

Sign 1: +x% skill "XP" bonus, +y% skill success rate
Signs 4 and 9 (allies): +z% skill "XP" bonus
Signs 12 and 2 (opposed): -z% skill "XP" penalty

Something like that would benefit all jobs equally (or could be made to), and wouldn't create a demand to have the "correct" sign for your job(s).

I like the rotating idea, that's a cool take.

If anything I would just like to have Zodiac signs, even if it's just for story purposes. Maybe even have some quests where you need to seek out other signs and "sync" with them, kind of like powering up a crystal with the 12 powers of the Zodiac, to unlock a door or something.

You wouldn't need those 12 people to really do anything other than click yes and see a small cut scene.

In addition there is Zodiac Compatibility. Characters in the game, including your own, are assigned certain Zodiac signs and opposing pairs are especially effective against each other. For instance a male Pisces and a female Virgo can inflict massive amounts of damage on each other, where as a male Pisces and a male Virgo will not be able to hurt each other very well.

Took above exerpt from a wiki I searched on Google for Tactics.

Now with this then yes I can see an advantage to people seeking for certain signs since I would assume bosses would have a set sign, all other mobs just randomized. But doubt everyone would select same sign due to not all bosses be same. Or they could make other bosses or rare enemies under the Ophiuchus (Serpentarius) sign. I can see compatibilities but I wouldn't hope for nothing big just, I'm sure when it mentions "not as well" doesn't render them completely useless. I doubt it would give immunity <insert sign here>.

One of their names is Llymlaen, the goddess of navigation. (straight from the official site, under the section for Limsa Lominsa)

With that, it doesn't sound like the Zodiac from Ivalice, or any other godhead that we've seen so far in the series.

Another goddess revealed is Nymeia the Spinner, connected to fate.

That's literally all we know about the godhead for XIV so far, so it'll be interesting to see who else pops up.

It's referring to the 12 original members of Organization XIII from Kingdom Hearts.

Hey, I can wish, right?

I reckon they'll be all new goddesses that aren't necessarily a direct link to any previous religion or set of beliefs (which seems quite unusual for SE), being as I think we've been told of a couple of the goddesses, though Nymeia's the only one I can remember right now and a quick google search of the name brings up only FFXIV links.

That's about the extent of my knowledge on the subject though <_<

Thanks for the info on Llymlaen and Nymeia. Did a search and not only have these gods never been used in a previous FF, I found no historical references neither which is even more weird for SE. May not be tied to zodiac like hoped earlier, but these are a complete mystery.

Forgive me for my ignorance. But could it have something to do with the..Summons? I dont really know what to call them really. Come to think of it. I havent seen them pop up anywere in all the reading I have done for FFXIV which i find odd since they have always been a big part of FF games. Maybe I missed something.

I lol'd at your post, mentioning using a SS# in some way for a video game. You don't actually give that to anyone that asks, do you? I've never used mine to set up payment for anything.

Another of the Twelve revealed is Oschon the Wanderer, an earth based deity who some earth based jobs (miners, etc) follow due to the theory of continental drift. You can find this in the description for the miner class on the main site.

The religious system so far seems more closely aligned to Greek/Roman mythology than anything else. I very strongly don't believe that these gods are the actual "summons" of the game but rather deities outside of the normal person's reach (similar to Altana in FFXI). Remember that there are also the "primals," separate god-like entities that are most likely the "summons."

As it says the 12 blessed all races, it could probably be assumed that there are 2 more we know:

Azema (God of the Sun) and Menefina (God of the Moon), worshiped by the two Miqo'te tribes.

I am expecting the 12 to feature heavily in the gameplay not just in the storyline. I think it is safe to assume that there will be a system similar to that used in Oblivion where birthsign determines a certain bonus availible to your character, quite how and what I have no idea. I am also expecting a summon based system featuring the 12 in some way, maybe not as obvious as a summoner class, perhaps just being able to invoke the power of your guardian deity, but its a FF game I am sure there will be a summoner and/or summons implemented in some way.

Yeah, the summons have been available since FF4. I'm pretty sure they weren't in the original 3, and they weren't in 1 or 2, so yeah. It'd be the first FF since FF4 not to have any summons. That would make me a sad panda =(

I think the summons will be in XIV at some point. Maybe not right away, but I can't see a summoner class not being in the game at all.

As for the twelve, I think ZarikOfSylph has it right. It sounds like a Final Fantasy version of greek/roman gods & goddesses. I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw it like that, I figured it was cause I read my son's Percy Jackson books last week.

Tho unsummonable, Bahamut was in the original FF, and Leviathan in FF2. I have no idea about 3 or if there were anymore in FF2? Pretty sure Bahamut was only appearance in first King of Dragons or something like that.

There was no summoner class in FF or FF2, there was in the remake of 3 (I think there was at least... don't remember now), but I don't know about the original.

Yes, I am aware that Bahamut, the King of Dragons, existed in FF1, but he was not a summon at the time.

In the remake of FF3 (for the DS) there was a summoner class. This was a remake of Japan's 3, not ours (which would be FF6 in Japan I believe) But I couldn't tell you if it was in the original.

Sorry to bring this topic back from the bottom of page two......

I saw a picture floating around with a description of the twelve gods and the elements they were associated with. Was this a leak or official? and If it's official and out there can someone point me in the way of it? Or better yet link it? Thanks!

Awesome thread and awesome information... I'm also interested in the lore surrounding the Twelve. Somehow though, I suddenly reckon that SE will toss us a frightfully curved ball and we get to find out that there were Thirteen gods + goddesses... I called it first.
