I think i'd have a heart attack if they announced FF XV. Pretty much in the same way when they announced FF XIV.

SE will be working on FF13 Versus, I doubt we will see an announcement for FF15 for a while.

SE tend to be fairly quite (a few trailers) at E3 and most of their announcments come from TGS.

Speaking off MMO FF's, I'm surprised they didn't just integrate a Co-op mode for FFXIII. Where people with the game can join in on your storyline and play your other characters and such. Would have been a little more fun. Just let people join as far into the storyline as they have played, and even earn CP for their own characters if they're helping out a friend with storyline. Woulda been shweet.

Not sure about FFXIV.

If Betas around, the only information they would have to hype is something they've specifically held back from the Beta Client. So they might just work that route, or let the hype machine work off it's own forward motion for a bit and focus on another franchise completely. If Beta isn't around , they could still release any amount info, and will probably be inclined to do so to make sure we're still being strung along so many months later.
So, I guess that depends on whether or not they're going to hold off Beta for another 2 and 1/2 months.

On the one hand,
6 months is a downright unusual length of time to wait between accepting Applications to starting the tests.
And E3 isn't a particularly fortuitous time to be waiting to start anything. Cataclysm is slated for a release this year as well, and nobody wants to be hyping their product at the same time Cataclysm hits and risk being overshadowed in the critical starting months. It's reasonable to assume Blizzard would want to milk the expansion for all it's worth during their yearly event Blizzcon at the end of June, so the months beforehand is a great time for a competing company to solidify a playerbase.

On the other hand,
We've already gone 1-2 months over the average wait time, so it's possible we have a delay on our hands. They wanted to wait for Vanafest, sure, but what's the hold-up now?* They might just have to roll with the punches, and that just might end up with Beta post June, and a ton of interesting info at E3 as penance.

*the possibility of Alpha testers upholding their NDA contractual obligations duly noted before anybody brings it up, I'm just naturally cynical enough to be more willing to attribute lack of leaks to delay than fine upstanding citizenship.

Honestly, IF they did remake it....anything other than updated graphics would be overkill.

Period...

On topic: Probably the release date for 14, as well as some concept art and epic trailers.....prolly a no on the art, yes on the trailers.

Updated graphics and the contents of the long rumored 4th disk. With the Aerith revival process being complete? I mean C'mon THAT is what everyone else in the gaming world seems to be waiting on. Personally, I don't really care about any of it too much. FFVII was easily one of my favorite RPGs of all-time however, I didn't really use Aerith too much when I played it (even for the first time) and as for the story line side of things I'd Rather Cloud was with Tifa anyway.

Anyway... As you said, On topic: I really hope that the release date is given. Every week that goes by without us hearing anything about beta starting makes me wonder if they can make the promised 2010 date. Of course, I'd rather the game be ready even if it means we have to wait another few months, as opposed to the alternative of a poor gaming experience just so they make the deadline.
But my hopes are the game will be ready in time, and will be awesome!

E3 2010 is the biggest show in North America before FFXIV's release. This show sets the tone for the rest of the year. Gamers want to know what's hot heading into the holiday season.

If SE wants to ramp up interest for FFXIV in the US and Canada, they need to make a big splash at E3 2010.

Didn't SE unveil the Xbox360 version of FFXIII last E3? Perhaps we will see some information on the chances of a Xbox360 FFXIV?

I do agree that SE needs to make big news to increase their North American standing.

I thought SE already said there would be no FFVII remake, and Crisis Core was the final installment. I don't remember where I read it, but I thought that's what they said.

edit: Thanks for the info.

With the successful launch of the thirteenth installment in the franchise, the questions about a remake of Cloud's initial adventure abound. Most recently, Siliconera ran the idea past Square Enix President and CEO Yoichi Wada. Wada replied:
"Right now we don't have a clear direction, but many fans have requested we remake Final Fantasy VII. We're going to explore the possibility – whether or not we're going to do it, if we're going to do it, and the platform."

I'm predicting the following for Squenix's showing at E3 this year:

*Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep (out this Summer in NA and maybe EU?)
*Some (but not a lot) of info for XIV since we'll be in beta by then
*Nier
*Versus XIII
*Unknown title announcement for a game by Nomura

Nomura has said that he'd like to release two titles this year. Versus would be awesome, and has a high possibility, if only for release in Japan, with a NA/EU release next year. I'm guessing his other title is either one we don't know anything about yet, or Third Birthday.

An announcement for a VII remake is a possibility, but I'm not counting on it, and another option in that vein would be a sequel for XIII, since the devs have expressed interest plus all of the cut content they've mentioned.

That's like adding a chapter to the end of Old Yeller where it turns out that the dog getting rabies was just a dream.

Drama doesn't really work if you're completely undoing the conflict in an arbitrary plot twist.

More FFXI content? More useless junk? I quit FFXI because of this new stuff they always add. The whole CoP content was worth only 1 ring. Mainly because it got a little boring not being elite and whatnot. i hope FFXIV caters to the hardcore players as well. idk i liked ffxi when not everyone had the same armor, and were om end game ls's. made it more special

My hope is for some Front Mission Evolved news. Or will I be one of the few people playing this game online? You guys think waiting for FFXIV is tough. I've been waiting 2 years for this game to come out.. Just had to mention this game. There doesn't seem to be a lot of hype for it.

Definitely a focus on the Kingdom Hearts series. I expect a release date of August for KH: BbS, some new on other SE games (SE also has Eidos, remember? So expect, say FF next to Batman, Arkham Asylum 2), Third Birthday. I don't expect a new game announce, though a tease for KH3 or Third Birthday wouldn't be so bad...

Man, everyone is getting their hopes up for all this stuff... I've learned with SE, don't even think about it. Don't hope. Everything will just be crushed and it will be painful.
They're very stingy on information... There was even an interview that said they aren't garenteeing Versus XIII to appear at E3 anymore. They're going so slow with that game, I'd expect it to come out around Q4 2012 and then it'd be to late for all of us then. I guess keeping a pessimistic view will keep me from getting too hopeful...

I was like this, but then they surprised us at Gamescom. Who would have thought we'd get so much information from a German gaming event and not at TGS? Not me.

FFVII Remake 'Looking Pretty Unrealistic'
Producer Yoshinori Kitase says they'd do it if it only took a year, but that's likely not possible.

In case you haven't yet completely given up hope for a Final Fantasy VII remake on the PlayStation 3, here is Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase with yet another proclamation of how very unlikely it is to happen. Speaking to TechDigest, Kitase explained that the sheer amount of work and development time that a remake would require makes the prospect "pretty unrealistic."

"If it were possible that we had all the right facilities and the right environment to be able to make and prepare a Final Fantasy VII remake within a year, we'd very much like a go at it," Kitase said, with a very obvious "but" looming on the horizon. "But even Final Fantasy XIII has taken over three and a half years to create. If we were to recreate final Fantasy VII with the same level of graphical detail as you see in Final Fantasy XIII, we'd imagine that that would take as much as three or four times longer than the three and a half years it has taken to put this Final Fantasy together! So it's looking pretty unrealistic to happen!"

So in other words, according to the man who would probably know best, it apparently could conceivably take up to twelve years to make a FFVII remake with the same graphical quality as FFXIII. We're not sure if that was an exaggeration, but it's no wonder Kitase says it's "looking pretty unrealistic."

This also echoes similar comments Kitase made earlier this month, when he said that it's "very hard to make games on PlayStation 3 in the same style as the games in [FFVII's] era had. Making graphics will take an enormous time." He explained that's also part of the reason FFXIII is more linear than past Final Fantasy games.

Still, Kitase did say that if by "any remote chance" it were possible to do the remake in less time, they would. But by the sound of it, you're probably better off lowering your hopes, FFVII fans.

LOL 9-12 years to make a remake of FFVII who is he kidding, granted SE are like the slowest developers around but come on.

I actually forgot that last year SE had a Q&A at E3 so perhaps they will have something similar this year.

Personally, I don't think they would risk a Q&A session with XIV so close. There are too many questions that they just don't want to answer. It would be more like a "dance around the topic" session.

Question: Will we see new races added into the world of XIV?

Answer: That's something we've been hearing a lot about lately, it's still a topic of conversation.

Question: _______ was my favorite job in XI, will we see something like that in XIV?

Answer: The classes in XIV work in a whole new way, you may be able to customize a character to work similar to your ______ did, but the new classes will not be called what they were before.

Question: I haven't seen/heard anything about pet classes. Will they be forgotten this time around?

Answer: This is something that we've been discussing for a while now, and we'd like to find an interesting new way to incorporate those things. You may see that in a future update.

Question: I loved the bells in FFXI. Will those be back?

Answer: I knew someone actually liked them! Yes, of course they are back!

You don't think that overturning what's considered to be one of the single most significant and emotional moments in video game history is a massive mistake that completely undermines the original game? Rewriting classic stories in such a ham-handed manner isn't usually looked upon favorably.

As far as I'm concerned, Advent Children already did enough to detract from VII's legacy. Writing a wholesale change into the game's script as part of some misguided attempt at fan service would be the proverbial nail in the game's coffin.

I'm sure it'll never happen. But I'm still shocked that anyone would think that this was a good idea.
