Heya guys!

Just posting to give a big "How's you doin?" to the community. I think this is the first time I posted on Alla for like 3 or 4 years. And I came back when I heard about FFXIV coming out soon! I wanna join in on the speculation and info-starvation!

I just recently discovered Zam's Wiki on FFXIV, so I gotta lot of reading to do tonight...

I used to play FFXI for a few years when it was released in NA, and I played through most of CoP, (but left shortly after that) FFXI was an incredible experience and it was my first MMORPG. I've played WoW,LoTRO,Aion,AoC... yeah I know lol. But none of those games really felt the same to me as what FFXI did back in the day. And I really hope SE is able to make that same experience for me again.

So before this turns into a flashback rant, I'm gonna end it here.

So, Hello everyone :)

Welcome to the FFXIV forums. We've sure got a lot to talk about right now! The place is jumping!

Just kidding. Sort of. We had a little info-drip from Vanafest, but it's been pretty sparse otherwise. Speculation and info-starvation sounds about right at present. :P

We're all with you on the hopes for XIV though. Maybe we'll start seeing some excitement-inducing stuff sneak out from the beta that just started, eh?

Aaawwww.

They're so cute when they're fresh-faced and polite and not arguing semantics or strawmen.

Seriously though.
The nostalgia tinted memories of your first MMO is a lofty thing to compare against. Instead of trying to find a replacement, give the games a chance to earn their own place in your heart.

This place is like a tank of bettas that SE only occasionally remembers to feed.

I've been away myself for a good few years. Long enough that I forgot my login info and everything.
I THINK it was PinkPanth3r?. Email, no freaking idea. I've changed so may times because of spam bots. XD
Had to make a new one. SUCKY

I was going to install XI onto my PS3 but don't remember my login info, and S/E wont verify me unless I go get some paperwork notarized. Ehh, it's too much of a hassle for me come back and pay them money to play again and I refuse to start all over again.... lmao

Played for about 5-6yrs and had to quite.
Been messing around with other mmo after mmo hoping to find something that gave me a similar feeling to what XI used to give me. Nothing yet. Hopefully XIV will beable to fill that void. I'll just continue to ***** around in UO for now... i been playing UO......forever......... XD

Oh.. Welcome back.... lmao

Thanks for the welcome guys!

Eske, I really hope the Alpha/Beta guys completely ignore the NDA lol. Or maybe SE will just E-mail me for my beta admission :P

Yeah I'm trying to do that. It's hard though, Even though I know the reasons why I quit FFXI, I still think back about it fondly. But, FFXI broke me into the whole MMO thing, So I don't think anyhting is truly gonna compare to it :P

Hey Oppo,

I am in pretty much the exact same boat as you. FFXI was my first MMO, I left after getting married and having kids, but missed the feeling I would get playing the game with other people. I tried other MMO's (WoW, EQ2, Vanguard) and finally settled on LOTRO for a while, and realized something there.

It seems that the better the community, the more enjoyable the game is to me. I hated WoW... not because of the game play, which was fantastic, but because the fact that 75% of the people you run into are just not friendly people. LOTRO combined the soloability, and the good community that the IP brought with it, and I really enjoyed the game.

That said, FFXI still has the best community of any game I have played. I logged on the other day for the first time in 3 years or so, and found that a lot of my LS was still there, and I realized that as stupid as it sounded, I kind of missed them. I hope that SE is able to make a game this time that caters a bit more to to solo player (not too much mind you, because then it becomes a single-player game) and yet still convey the sense of community they were able to establish in their first venture to the MMO genre.

In any case... I will be there on launch day, just as excited as I was when I first logged on to FFXI :)

Cheers!

Nothing stupid about that in my opinion. Its been 5+ years for me, and every once in a while I find myself missing my old FFXI friends. It just hasn't been the same in the other MMOs I've played since.

It's good to see a lot of people seem to be in the same situation as I am.

I 100% agree with that dave. I didn't play LoTRO long enough to really get into the community, but the games I did, definetly stick with me a lot longer. I was surprised to find that AoC (once you get past all the "pro's".) actually had a very good community within it. Guilds openly communicating with each other in friendly competition and exchanging info. In my experience, the more a game sides with Solo-ability and orientates(sp?) itself to PvP the less of an actual community develops. Sad, but to me, true.

But on that note, I'm embracing the solo side of MMO's. My schedule can get erratic and getting a regualar playing time can be tricky, so an hour here or there and still being able to play and progress somewhat is comforting. I just hope it doesn't get so dumbed down that it doesn't actually feel like I accoplished anything. And only do the quests/missions simply for the Exp boost/loot/fame(rep) etc...

I hope they tune the challenges appropriatly, and foster community growth.

I think SE has their work cut out for them, don't you think? lol

These analogies just don't have the same zen when you say them.
