I for one really enjoy the style that those Character models are sporting, I looks like they've started to work on the armor and clothing that we'll be wearing as apposed to whatever place holders they started out with.

Fantastic work in fact just looking at the Japanese Site makes me waaaay more excited for this game then the NA version. The UI is really nice and says "Final Fantasy" to me a lot more.

WIN!

Yea, seems as though Race, as well as "Tribe" selection will determine your starting stats.

Hume - Midlander- Because of the custom of reading books from the early age, they tend to have relatively bigger percentage of intelligence.

High INT starting off in the game?

Taru - Seekers of Sun/Moon- Seems here that Seekers of Sun will be more effective during "Hot" climate weather maybe. Also with the Fire spell? Moon could work accordingly as well.

I wonder how we as players will react to each other in game. With the two Elezen tribes having hate for each other, it seems as though any fan of any Race has just been given a new choice AND new look on how critical Race selection could be.

Edit: Oh, and this can also predict how efficient you'll be in battle at certain times. Just something to think about. EX: Two Elezen of two different Tribes could be in your Party at once and may not be too happy with having to work together. Which leads to poor battle performance.

Edit: Sorry, one more Edit. My mind is just running wild..I also took into consideration another aspect, when it comes down to Elezen (sorry for all these examples with this Race, this is my favorite) you have one Tribe from the Forest, one Tribe from the Caves. Maybe the Forest Tribe will be more efficient in a Forest setting, where as the one from the Caves will be great in Ifrit's Couldron type zones.

Ok, done ^^

I know, sounds bad, but in this case they're introducing "Tribe aggression" it seems. I mean, you have to take it into consideration. I updated my post a few times on just how deep Race selection could go. Says right there that Cave Elezen hate Forest Elezen. Think you can just stroll into the Cave Elezens area being a Forester? Galka live near Valcanos, and have great Fire Resist. You don't think they would be able to perform better in those conditions? Pure speculation. I'm just having fun with it =p

Those images are really detailed. I hope our toons will have the same crisp look with all the details. Also, may we see a moving city-state in the desert with these nomad Lalafell? That would be cool. Love the tribes and hoping for some racial/tribe abilities. I am under the impression that SE is going for more diversity in the population. This new information, though not much, is still very exciting.

What makes you assume that Highlanders are ***? It doesn't say there are no females, just that it's rare to see them in other cities. That's like saying there are no male Mithra in FFXI. Just because we can't see them doesn't mean they don't exist.

Exciting!

I like how the male and female of each clan is wearing the same armor, but in different colours. I honestly couldn't tell that they were the same armor until the third of fourth time I looked at them. Awesome to see that you can look unique even in the same armour!

..I also find it kind of funny how they're putting 'collars' on every piece of armor again. Does SE just really like neck accessories, or is it to avoid clipping with different face models?

That´s called "Sun tan" lol.

But seriously, i think its amaizing the new options SE offers to character customization. I've seen lots of people asking for new races, but i think this is a really good way to give the game more personalization and diversity. Personally, i rather have more character customization than a Male Miqo´te or a new race (i.e. Gria).THe only problem is that now i need to chose between "seekers of the sun" and "keepers of the moon." I must admit, however, that i really like the "keepers of the moon" outfit, looks pretty "stealth" mode.

SE, keep up the good work!

When it was announced that FFXIV wouldn't have new Races, I was ok with it. I just told myself "You guys better let us customize the **** out of the Races this time then", and they did so. I'm sure we'll all agree when I say FFXI should've had customization to begin with, but we can't slap them on the hand for that.

At least there will be more diversity this time around.

And it's usually the only one that looks decent, thanks to the harmet style hair they offer being modeled as a solid object as opposed to planes (as in the case of this game and FFXI and most Japanese games)

I'm pretty boring, I will be reproducing my character exactly as a Hyuran Midlander, the only thing I might do is darken his skin a few shades.

I'm still very excited about all the new options, and heterochromia !!! I'm not sure whether I will do this if it's available to me, I feel like there will be an absurd number of heterochromatic characters out there.

Edit: I think people are too concerned about the comment about Midlanders reading books and being more intelligent, I believe it was just implying hey, the Highlanders are slightly tilted towards brawn, and the midlanders towards brain. I get the impression that as usual the Hyuran in general will have well-rounded stats, I'm fairly certain your'e not going to be gimp as a midlander gladiator for instance.

Yea, but 3 of the 10 Race descriptions interest me:

Hyuran: Because of the custom of reading books from the early age, they tend to have relatively bigger percentage of intelligence.

Roegdyn: This Roegadyn tribe lives near a volcano opening and are known as the "Guardians of the flame."
# Not only strong in body, their training to resist fire has also given them great magic strength.

Elezen: Their hearing which is as acute as that of bats can even hear the rustle of enemy. Therefore, many are good at martial arts. They have amazing farsightedness like a hawk, and are very good archer.

Oh, and there isn't five Races, seems as though it is being referred to as "ten", now.

It quite literally is THE theme of Final Fantasy. Its as iconic as the prelude and fanfare theme in past Final Fantasys but it hasn't shown up in any of the more recent Final Fantasy's :( Good to have it back!

::EDIT:: To be more precise about what I mean is, they (Highlander/Midlander) are the same race, just different kinds of backrounds/traditions/lifestyles.

You seriously are using the Red Mage from FF1 as your icon and you asked that question? Or were you being facetious?

Yes this is the theme of Final Fantasy as others have stated, it was recently added in "A Crystalline Prophecy" to Final Fantasy XI, easily the best thing in that expansion.

Also, it has appeared in recent Final Fantasies! It usually finds its place into part of the medley that makes up the ending credits of the game. I was excited to hear it so early for FFXIV, I'm hoping this is the login theme, or the opening or both.

Definitely enjoying the main theme. On top of that, I'm really impressed with the clothing. It's a far cry from typical Final Fantasy dressage, and actually looks like they consulted with some designers who have real world fashion sense (not to knock on Final Fantasy character designs). Refreshingly different, but nothing overly flashy, every outfit looks natural and seems to fit on the race wearing it.

I'm hoping we'll actually get a reason to wear just-for-show clothing, as opposed to armor all the time. Maybe have the option to automatically switch to plainclothes when in a city? At least to make it seem like my character bathes once in awhile. =x

Worth noting, of course, that every single outfit in every single picture includes at least one belt.

according to science stuffs that ive read over time, most scientists conclude that that there are 4 races, negroid, caucazoid, asian and native american (cant remember the technical terms for the last two and too lazy to look it up)
people like mexicans, creoles, some filipinos are considered to be like sub races, their blood line mixtures just havent been around long enough to be considered individual races. so yeah, those groups are similar to FF14 "clans".

Race is such a haphazard and arbitrary classification anyways. Its so hard to divide because there's not really any clear cut lines, just genetic heritage that diverged a little because of populations being isolated, and even then, it's more of a continuum of differences because populations changed when they migrated to new demanding climates. 'Race' is really more of a genetic mutation tree (with branches running back into each other as populations met through technology or migration) than separate categories.

They've said in past interviews (at least one, and I don't remember which one because it's been awhile since I read through the archives of interviews) that there would be no "stat" differences between the races; everyone could be whatever they wanted, and they can be one thing as easily as any other without having to worry about having less MP or more HP or what have you.

I can only assume they will carry this through for the tribes as well. I don't think it would make much sense for them to confirm against stat differences between races only to add it in for tribes.

I think it's nothing but aesthetics, the additions of the tribes I mean -- and that's fine, because I think what they've done is great.

I tend to agree, but I do wonder if there will be some kind of passive abilities unique to each clan or maybe race or both, as in "that other MMO" just speculation on my part but it has been stated that Elezen are natural archers and Roegadyn have some afinity for magic ( or somthing along those lines).

Honestly I would be happy if the same races are available as in FFXI... not that I want the similarity or anything, but I think the variation was good.

As long as there is more variation between the races, I will be happy, and it looks like character creation will allow for that.

according to science stuffs that ive read over time, most scientists conclude that that there are 4 races, negroid, caucazoid, asian and native american (cant remember the technical terms for the last two and too lazy to look it up)
people like mexicans, creoles, some filipinos are considered to be like sub races, their blood line mixtures just havent been around long enough to be considered individual races. so yeah, those groups are similar to FF14 "clans".

you are wrong

Yes, it is the Theme of Final Fantasy. Usually either by producer or by Uematsu-san himself they keep a few traditional things in the game just like Chocobo, and Cid. These songs are USUALLY in the game somewhere. Some of the more recent games have started to steer away from these songs, and may not contain all of these songs, but you can expect to find at least 1 of these in the soundtrack.

The Prelude
Chocobo
Final Fantasy Theme
Fanfare
