If only I could understand what they were saying! :p

Looked like a teaser to me though, When is SE actually gonna put up something that actually showcases the game they are planning!?

Anywho, I'll keep an eye on the channel. Thanks for posting it :)

Very nice. Good to see some of the npc actions, and inside a town.

Edit: Watched a 2ed time. The Lalafall has Tarutaru /panic near the end.

I had the same thought about both of those. Glad to see the lalafell are still as adorable as ever. I am glad they changed up the Roegadyn model a bit. I always liked the glaka the best but there short legs bothered me sometimes. They seem to be a bit longer this time around.

1:28-1:32 Miqo'te is holding down the blade as the Roegadyn is hitting it.

Edit: Also a Miqo'te at 1:15-1:16. if pause can see the ears through the hat.
Edit 2: Saw anoother Miqo'te at 0:50 to the right as the Roegadyn is looking at the people sitting down at the tables. Its like 1 sec.

Would have been funny if a Roegadyn was holding it and a Lalafell was hitting it. Would have been a cute scene.

Y'know what i noticed?

All of the characters have similar HP/MP. In fact, the lalafell has less mp than the Roegadyn. Not saying this is confirmation of more similar characters or anything, but at least it appears that they aren't shoehorning bulky characters in melee only roles.

Thanks for the write-up, Elmer! Sounds like this will be a pretty common thing.

Edit:

Watched it again, it seems like that in passive mode, perhaps all the menus disappear and just leave the near-empty screen shown? In comparison to the battle screenshot with those lizard-things released recently, anyway.

Also, there were those signs on the mini-map for the different crafting areas and such - I wonder what the candle one was.

I'm guessing the city they are in is Limsa Lominsa. The mini map in the top corner also has symbols of the shops on it. Awesome.

I am seriously flipping out from anticipation. The more tiny bits SE slowly hands out, the more I want this game. FFXI was my favorite MMO and so far it looks as if XIV will take that crown in my book.

If you look closely though, it looks like the lalafell's MP bar is not full, like the others. Seems like they all have the same HP/MP otherwise.

Also, awesome to hear they will add more of these videos, just can't wait for more info. Not to mention, that they mention Alpha tests starting soon is great, good to finally get some news on that front as well.

Great video showcasing just basic town action. I'm not sure I understand the person who said it doesn't showcase the game at all.. I think it showcases quite a bit more than we've seen to date in a lot of ways -- just not battle-related.

Also, I think I nearly died of cuteness overload at 2:03 ;)

They sure impressed me for being in an alpha...compared to you know, missing textures, broken textures that give a red 'X' or bullseye texture in most MMO Alpha builds.

And holy crap, the Lalafell look much better than the Gamescom stuff, I guess cause it was video of a tv screen, but they're really cute.

I wonder what system it is running on. From the looks of the Taru running down the shops it was very choppy, if it's ps3 that has me worried about framerate issues when there are 200 other people.

Does anyone else want to have a cooking/crafting gathering and see how slow we can make the game run? From the looks of it, it is very graphically intense and i would love to have a bunch of people lag it up lol.

Looks amazing though definately makes me more pumped then i already am for the game!

The system they're running it on is called Alpha.

Don't look too into performance knowing as such.

System is different from build.

Framerate issues will be somewhat fixed with a better system, hence the hefty requirements of the alpha/beta.

I was merely curious what system it was running on, i did not comment on the not knowing it was alpha. Tuning shouldn't need to be done for higher end systems, if it does at this point then SE has an issue, and i doubt that is the case.

P.S. Post something a little more relevant then "oh it's the alpha, as if you didn't know..."... sigh

From how I remeber it. Thats how FFXI was at least when I was running around. The lil guys were everywhere!! followed by mithra/hume/elvan(equal parts) Then falling far behinde was galka. I am pretty sure the same pattern will happen in FFXIV. But I rather like that.

I'll admit, I laughed at the collective "ohhh choco!" when the chocobo appears on the screen.
Also, the chef having to take a break from chopping onions was a nice touch. :3

Oh good, Alpha's starting.
How oddly formal, to go ahead and announce it like that. It does neatly assuage my worries of delay, though.
And it's especially nice to see them going through the motions of trying to keep the playerbase 'in-the-loop'.

Technically your only supposed to hit Alpha when your done removing placeholders with finished products. I haven't seen anything obviously placeholder, so I think so far this seems like a right proper Alpha. (Insomuch nobody jumped the gun and named Alpha with placeholders around for the nice big financial incentive or is showing a build with placeholders and wielding the term funny for public consumption). Going by that logic, the stuff your seeing is mostly what your going to get in the final product, aside from some minor tweaks and bug stomping.

That said, even minor tweaks to something like Lighting can alter how we perceive things drastically. So if your not liking where it's at now, there's still some hope.

Every time they release media I just look at it in awe. This time it jaw dropped me, the scenery was just AMAZING. I want to see many more examples of areas/fields containing levels of terrain, it just feels more realistic. That view of looking over the city was very nicely done.

It's still too far to tell because we never saw the other cities yet, but I'm getting a hunch there might be a trade commerce center instead of like in FFXI where all the craft guilds are scattered about in different sections of the town. We saw cooking and tailoring, and I think there might have been fishing and leather craft shown too. Also possible plans to have cities share crafting guilds given the local environment can support it?

Edit notes: I see the minimap changing around a bit, seems like some things are in the same spot, others are in different places. But no idea as a whole how big Limsa Lominsa is.

I need to see some more Miqo'te action, those Lalafell are stealing all the spotlight and doing a **** good job at it <_<

Looks great! I want to see more terrain stuff also however. I think that is SE strongpoint. I remember watching sunsets in FFXI and in awe over waterfalls and the lighting and so forth. I can't wait to see the beauty of the landscape in XIV and so look forward to exploring and finding my favorite spots.

Well, I had already planned to have a Lalafell Pikko that I just kept at home to do cooking and gardening, kind of like a "main mule" sort of thing. I'd still want my "real" main to be either Miqo'te or maybe Shader.

If the crafting actions shown are NPCs (looks like it), then eh... I've always loved the actions the NPCs in XI guilds do, but unless I can do those myself in XIV, I'm not *that* excited about it.

Reptiles! Giant reptiles! Note the tail that is thick at the base and gradually tapers, the long thin mouth that doesn't show expression, the complete lack of ears.

Personally, I love how Galka look over Roegadyn, mainly because they actually look different and interesting. Roegadyn just look like big muscle men with nothing else special about them.

I'm surprised at how good the animations were in FFXI without motion capture. I was sure that was what they'd used, but now you can see in FFXIV that they really did use motion capture for all the character's actions. Now here's the big question, are they using ragdoll physics this time around?

Ok, once again, i'm dissapointed regarding the Miqo'te information. I also feel Miqo´te is left behind. When we get to see images of class system (i.e. when they introduced the fighting system)there was not even 1 image showing Miqo'te. In the last update, the one that shows the tribe differenciation, we get to see some Miqo´te images (but guess they didn´t had much of an option there). And now, we get to see a glimpse of the Miqo´te diversity. That was just like 10 seconds. WTF!

I don´t mind Lalafell or other races/tribes get more attention. I just want to see more images from Miqo´te! I really hope the next video/information gets more attention to Miqo´te. Perhaps they don´t want to show Miqo´te becasuse they don´t want people to start thinking "Hey, cool Miqo´te. BTW, what's going on with the male Miqo´te. SE make a male Miqo´te pls!." But I dont care about male Miqo´te. I just want to see more attention to regular Miqo´te!

With the talk of the 3 chars in the vid all having the same stats. Everyone also needs to take into account. That alpha is about to start meaning it hasnt started yet. So those 3 kind fellows very well are jobless in a since. Meaning they may not even have any + or - to there stats due to job/race. Odds are they are just hollow figures used to walk around the city to show it off.

I wouldn't read too much into any numbers you see in the video, they still have a ton of stuff they might change prior to the start of actual service.
