The Koreans have a cultural hatred for Japan because of World War 2. A lot of Korean men were killed - genocide. And a lot of Korean women were used as "comfort women" for the Japanese troops.
This is true in part. Yeah, the Koreans are still a bit ticked off about the Japanese murdering their people in death camps, using them for human guinea pigs in experiments, raping their women, spitting their children on bayonets, etc., of course this is how the Japanese treated all of Asia during WWII. The animosity between the Japanese and Koreans goes much further back however.
They have been in a virtual state of war for thousands of years. In fact, the word Kamikaze, which means Divine Wind, originates from when the Koreans launched a seaborne invasion of the Japanese islands long ago. Just when it looked liked the Japanese were in for a mauling a freak Typhoon sprang up and wiped out the Korean fleet right before it could land.
So, the Koreans consider the Japanese to be sub-human, the Japanese consider the Koreans (and just about everyone else) to be sub-human. They have hated each other for a very long time, so it wouldn't surprise me if it played a role in Koreans not wanted to play Japanese games. I know that when I lived in Japan, all you had to do was mention Koreans and you would be bombarded with a torrent of curses.
An interesting fact is that geneticists have discovered that the Japanese and Koreans are so closely related that the it appears the Japanese themselves emmigrated from Korea to Japan. The indigenous people of Japan are the Ainu and they are caucasoid.
