Korean gamers left review of FFXIV YouTube video as it gives impression of LineageII or some people even says FFXIV copied from AION. Even though I posted that FFXI released year 2000 but LineageII released year 2003; FFXI used crystal engine but LineageII and AION used Unreal engine, they only says FFXIV is exactly same as AION. I can't believe they rate FFXIV same level as AION!!!! arrgggggg~~~~

That reminds me of that old 3LW song...

Playas, they gonna play
And haters, they gonna hate
Ballers, they gonna ball
Shot callers, they gonna call

Oh sorry. Yeah you can rate me down for that.

Aion looks nice, but gameplay sucks and lore is only skindeep.
Wow is easy to play, but looks cartoony and most lore is found as a bunch of text files.
FFXI has great lore, but PS2 holds back graphics and gameplay is notoriously difficult.

Soo... if FFXIV were to take the best aspects of each, you'd get the looks of Aion, the playability of WoW and a lore on par with FFXI...

Isn't that exactly what we all HOPE to see?

Yes, comparing a game you don't like to a condition that can ruin lives is completely fair and valid.

Aion runs on crytek engine one, the one that powered the first farcry.

FFXI didnt use crystal engine, FFXIV will be using it though :D. FFXI was also released in the year 2002 in japan, not 2000.

I do feel that there is sort of an anti-japanese mmo sentiment coming from korea. its funny to see them choose to play lineage II over ffxi and its something i'll never understand. I played Aion for about 2 weeks and it was pretty dumb :D.

Imo Aion did a good job considering what they had to work with, but it is not in the same league as the Crystal engine and FFXIV.

That said, I think you are right in that, why not pick the good things from different games and put it into one to make an even better game? It happens all the time everywhere, companies copy what works from each other and then try to add some of their own new ideas to improve the experience. That is a good thing!

Is this April fools joke or are they just fools?

Only thing that similar between FFXIV and Aion is that they are both MMORPGS and have great graphics.

Personally I’m very negative on Aion because I had a bad experience from overwhelming bots to be unable to level without getting ganked by high level players. If you like unbalanced PVP Aion is the game for you.

The Koreans have a cultural hatred for Japan because of World War 2. A lot of Korean men were killed - genocide. And a lot of Korean women were used as "comfort women" for the Japanese troops.

So yeah.

Also, Aion is garbage, even though the visuals are awesome, the character design in that MMO is extremely implausible (especially with the armor design).

I don't even like the graphics Aion has...it's all shiny and bright...like everything is covered in a layer of clear coat from a car.

I'm sorry, I'm confused as to why this is even an issue. Why does anyone care? Do you like FFXIV? yah? great!

When you have a bunch of games trying to achieve a similar level of graphic things will start to look the same. Especially in the Eastern Fantasy RPG genre.

I feel bad for even posting on this thread.

If this is true I prolly know why. Each culture has a diffrent take on mmos. Compare jrpgs to outs our to the koreans and youll see they actually are pretty diffrent. So for them to not like it really doesnt shock me. The few of there rpgs that I have played are pretty diffrent from ours or those from japan. So really I dont think its anything to get to upset over yet.

Aion doesn't use Unreal Engine it uses Cryengine.

Koreans prefer PVP based games, so I can understand why they hate on FF11/14 to some extent.

Who really cares though, let em think and say what they want.

So yeah.

This is true in part. Yeah, the Koreans are still a bit ticked off about the Japanese murdering their people in death camps, using them for human guinea pigs in experiments, raping their women, spitting their children on bayonets, etc., of course this is how the Japanese treated all of Asia during WWII. The animosity between the Japanese and Koreans goes much further back however.

They have been in a virtual state of war for thousands of years. In fact, the word Kamikaze, which means Divine Wind, originates from when the Koreans launched a seaborne invasion of the Japanese islands long ago. Just when it looked liked the Japanese were in for a mauling a freak Typhoon sprang up and wiped out the Korean fleet right before it could land.

So, the Koreans consider the Japanese to be sub-human, the Japanese consider the Koreans (and just about everyone else) to be sub-human. They have hated each other for a very long time, so it wouldn't surprise me if it played a role in Koreans not wanted to play Japanese games. I know that when I lived in Japan, all you had to do was mention Koreans and you would be bombarded with a torrent of curses.

An interesting fact is that geneticists have discovered that the Japanese and Koreans are so closely related that the it appears the Japanese themselves emmigrated from Korea to Japan. The indigenous people of Japan are the Ainu and they are caucasoid.

Crystal Tools is a Game Engine, which includes programming, combat, and graphics components. It's the same engine they used in FF13.

EQ2 used the crystal tools game engine? i dont think so... im fairly certain Crystal tools is a game engine developed by square themselves for their own personal use.

so if it was used in ff11, was i maybe used in EQ2 as well, never played eq2 so i dont know
#24 Apr 02 2010 at 11:10 AM Rating: Decent
No it is a game engine they created for 'Next generation titles' cant say i know what engine ff11 uses or eq2 for that matter but the crystal tools engine is for games that were released for ps3/360 onwards they havent used it for many titles however ffxiii is the only 1 i can name off the bat as its a new engine i think.

edit: if you look it up on wiki it says = "Crystal Tools is a game engine created by Japan-based RPG developer company, Square Enix, for in-house use. Originally titled, "White Engine", it was renamed in the development process of Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII. It has been built to specifically create seventh generation games. It was originally planned to be used with the Playstation 2, when it was swapped to the PS3. Tetsuya Nomura, a well known employee of Square Enix, has stated 'Swapping from PS2 to PS3 is a lot harder from PS1 to PS2; the hurdles are much greater'.

The engine's most notable feature is its ability to animate and real-time render fully CGI cutscenes like those of Final Fantasy VII Advent Children. It is capable of Advanced Audio processing, Cutscene to Cinematic transition (something used frequently in Square Enix's Kingdom Hearts series), Real time Physics Calculations, and Special Effects rendering. The CGI capabilities allow the Playstation 3 to handle High-CGI Scenes and render them near-perfectly in real time."

I have to correct you slightly on this one. While it is true that Korean soldiers were part of the fleet (albeit the majority) heading towards Japan, they were only obeying orders given by the Mongol empire. As such, there were also Chinese and Mongol soldiers involved in both attack attempts.
The Japanese on the other hand, tried to conquer Korea later on their way to China and did grave damage to Korean economy.

Now, as I've spent some time in both countries, I can say that the reason for Koreans being angry at Japan is not so much about what happened in the past, but the fact that Japan never really apologized for what they did. In fact, they even left the whole WW2 Korea/China affair out of their history books. So the average Japanese does often not know anything of this and feels wrongly accused by Koreans, leading to more hate and arguing among each other.
