Its seems from reading the description of the "******* sword" for gladiator and the "himantes" for pugilist. I have come to the conclusion, that Ul'dah is a place where martial arts is common practice and that it will probably be the place to aquire a Grt.katana sword(slashing type. Sounds good to me and the others wanting to down that path.

I think you are reading too much into two very brief statments.
Firstly with regards to the ******* sword "combining the slashing edge of Ul'dahic swords" the text only implies in Ul'dah the manufacture of slashing swords is favoured over peircing ones.
Secondly with regard to Hitmantes "a regulation weapon in the officialy sanctioned pugilist bouts of Ul'dah." that could mean they have boxing matches as a form of entertainment, and it in no way infers they don't have them anywhere else.
There is no mention of martial arts or of katana-like weapons here, and katana would fall under the same category as a ******* sword (both slashing and peircing) the only difference being single and not double edged.

You may be reading too much into it there, but I sure hope you're right. I pray every day I will wake up to info about the GK in XIV. The anticipation is killing me!

Remember, katanas and great kantanas didn't come out until the first FFXI expansion. And you started fresh with them (new jobs).

They will need room to expand, don't expect FFXIV to be FFXI II right out of the box.
