Racial Stats - Inferences from the new videoFollow

Hey guys, long-time reader, first-time poster.

I was just watching the video again recently thinking that all those characters look to be wearing "lowbie" gear. The sort of stuff you might get fresh off the boat. I then looked closely at the HP and MP bars and it seemed as though the Roegadyn and Hyuran had the exact same HP/MP. The Lallafell was close too, though she was missing some MP, presumably had casted a spell recently. Is it safe to assume they could all have been the same "level" (most likely "level 1")?

I'm hoping this will mean there are no huge differences between the races in overall HP/MP levels. As a Galka SMN and RDM from FFXI, I know how tight MP can be. I really want to roll a Roegadyn this time around but not if I'll have the same MP penalty.

Thoughts?

The Loenherd(sp) Galka from the volcano are supposed to be purely magic users. I can't imagine them getting mp/int/mnd gimped and then be expected to be supreme wielders of the dark/light arts. If anything you probably are making a better decision with them than you would be a Hyur if magic is your concern.

Odds are I think things like HP and MP will generally be equal across the races while things like Magic Attack and Defense bonuses and such will be where the differences come in. They probably won't be drastic differences but they'll be there.

I don't know about equal, but I doubt the differences will be as annoying as they where on XI.

We wouldn't be choosing a birthsign if it effected nothing. At least I hope not.

Race, gender, birthday nor chosen deity affects your character's stats in the alpha. Thus we can't draw any conclusions before everything is set in stone.

This is true, however SE on their own do not have plans to change this, unless it is asked by the player base to be changed.

Interview found here

Quote:
- Are there bonuses based on one's selected race and city-state? And if so, will tribe selection also affect them in any way?

A: At this stage, we haven't planned any such bonuses, but we will consider it if the many players ask for them.

That interview comment is pretty self-explanatory, but the clans' lore kinda suggests otherwise, so I'm not sure if they changed their mind or what they're planning right now.

Guys i'm fairly 100% sure that the devs already commented that there will be no racial stat differences to begin with so it doesn't restrict anyone in any shape or form from choosing any race they want for any class they want. Meaning, a Lalafell will make just as good a Gladiator as a Roegadyn.

Well they had different weapons, so different classes and still had the same hp/mp. That's why some people are saying those aren't the real values yet.

Maybe it's a FF2 system... if I recall correctly, Final Fantasy 2 used a system where HP would increase if you got hit, and MP would increase with spell use. I'm sure there will be limits in place, but it could be that HP and MP are just two more areas that we can "skill up" in, so that a Lalafell that's endured just as many beatings as a giant Roegadyn will have the same HP.

As of right now, that seems unlikely.

I like your idea Eternal, but the idea of finding groups to skill up with that kind of vague system makes me shiver all over. I think it's just going to be a normal level system + a weapon level system.

You don't need to find a group, you can just do it by yourself. Even if they don't go this route all the way, I think having stats be affected by what you are actually doing is important (so maybe the more you use mana moves, the more likely you are to activate a reduce mp trait. the more you take damage, the more likely you are to activate block/dodge for reduced damage).

I hadn't even thought of this. Good point.

I think, especially considering how long a player can spend on a single character, it is more than likely that most people will be playing jobs from the various disciplines. It sounds like they are going to be evening out the HP/MP spread. This will help keep things much more customizable and personal. I like it. After playing FFXI for so many years as a Galka PLD, I was hesitant when I really wanted to start playing mage classes. Not to mention merit parties were hesitant to pick up my Galka RDM. If these stats are a little more balanced this time around you will probably see a more even split in race choices (as opposed to the relatively low Galka count of FFXI).

I'm more than likely wrong, but if they did use this kind of system then hp and mp "skillups" would probably be quickly capped every "character level" (assuming levels exist). Also, maybe skilling up wont be such a nightmare this time around considering how much they're pushing soloability.

You're probably right though, it's likely a normal/weapon level system and the video we saw just happened to either have them all at the same level or they just gave them all the same hp/mp, thinking we wouldn't read into it :P

I would also guess its similar to FF2, I think we will have a base class and a job class, the base class is related to your stats and the job class will relate to your skill rank.

It's kind of interesting if this is the case as it means you will have a greater advanatage when leveling a second job as your base class will already be leveled.

I'm sure there will be slight differences in race and tribes but I am hoping they will be more like traits and not stats.

There is no Dark or Light affinity in FF14. (maybe you meant elemental/enhancement)

No Levels. They've been saying this from the start. It's all weapon based and skill based. I imagine HP and MP will increase along with other stats, or possibly like in 'Tactics with the actual armour, rather than with every level. People's signatures on forums will have to show their weapon level skills now instead of their constitution!

I think to make a truly great game diversity and excellence should be part of the races. Sure you can make it as about as exciting as watching grass grow by making everything Orwellian, average and equal. Vive la difference.....

Nothing is as approved as mediocrity, the majority has established it and it fixes it fangs on whatever gets beyond it either way. Can't remember who's quote it is but thank you!

hahaha is that a non NDA breaking information hint?

In other words, I guess what you mean is people in the alpha are leveling up as we speak.

I'm just going on what they said right at the beginning. They distinctly said no leveling.

Whatever the outcome, I'm getting this game, so it really doesn't affect me at the mo.

Considering the Alpha hasn't even started yet, OH YEAH MUST BE.

Do you decide to go out of your way to post nonsense rants and crying on purpose, or is it just you being completely oblivious and crying about things you don't know about? I'm having a hard time deciding.

Calm down dude. He wasn't crying about anything, nor was he ranting either.

Yes, it was a hint~ "weapon based and skill based" is not completely wrong statement either though.

I don't think you can infer much from that vid, the text on the official site is much more revealing if you want to play the speculation game.
Miqo'te for instance could have racial advantages as both archers and alchemists as well as having some scent based ability and a leg power based one also, all depends how much you want to believe in it and how far you are prepared to get carried away in the end.

I'm not in beta, so I don't know if I should post this, but its not my fault I "google" well. But all that info is from the alpha manual floating around on the internet. Alpha seems to have already started. Unless, they are giving the invited people the manual to read before they start sessions. So with that said, it is the alpha build that the FFXIV channel on YouTube is showing. And as specified, things are locked from the races you can choose to you stats being adjusted from the diety and birth sign you select. So, I would say, that is why the hp and mp are the same for everyone in that video. The alpha seems to be very close nit(exclusive players) and the ffxiv channel seems to be giving us previews of whats to come before beta starts. This is my guess. I don't really care about playing alpa or beta. But from the manual that was leaked FFXIV is going to be one interesting game. Sorry if I stepped on any ones toes, I just can't see people guessing and presuming when I can provide some juicy info that google gave to me :)
