PS3 or PC - Preorder Anyone?Follow

#1 Apr 05 2010 at 7:01 AM Rating: Good
Don't know if this has been posted already but what the heck.

Just to start a thread on which/if you have pre-ordered FFXIV or plan to.

Im getting mine from here:
http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-XIV-Playstation-3/dp/B002BRZ79E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1270470586&sr=8-1

Ive pre-ordered both the PC and PS3 versions with 1 day shipping like a maniac.
My biggest anticipation is to get that first huge outdoor feeling you got with FFXI.
Then exploring and teaming up with someone that you will only see again in about 4 years.

A few details for the gaming i already have:
My PS3 60GB setup:
Logitech NetPlay Controller PS2 which should work as i use it for FFXI.
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-NetPlay-Controller-Sony-Playstation/dp/B00006SKJ4
If not ill just use the PlayStation 3 Wireless keypad
or one of these i picked up a while ago: http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Kybrd-built-Trackball-Ergoguys/dp/B000FE7SGA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1270471366&sr=1-1
Will be played on my Panasonic TH-42PX600U 42-Inch 1080p Plasma: http://www.plasmatvbuyingguide.com/plasmatvreviews/panasonic-th42px600u-review.html

PC:
8GBRam DDR2 Vista 64
QX9650 quad extreme stock at 3.0ghz overclockable edition.
Asus tri fan HD4870X2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121294R
Panasonic TC-32LZ800 32-Inch 1080p LCD: http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-Viera-TC-32LZ800-32-Inch-1080p/dp/B0014CQE5S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1270471673&sr=1-1
Plus the works like Zalman 9700 CPU cooler, ABS 1100w PSU etc etc.
The rig is a monster so im sure it wont have any problem playing FFXIV.

I've only got a laptop at the moment for PC power, so I will likely get the PS3 version if I cannot get a decent spec'd PC in time for release.

Naw, I won't preorder I live in the EU and they won't run out of copies anytime soon as SE never tells anyone here it has released anything (unless you sub their newsletters). If I did though I would get the PS3 version simply cos it is cheaper for me as my laptop won't cut it on FFxiv and I'll most likely want it free anyway to help me work out what the **** I am doing :P Buying a new PC just for FFxiv would be nice but I have children to feed instead.

Preordered awhile ago for PS3. lol
Not sure if I will pick it up right away for PC.
I will eventually, to see how well it works with wine.

You're going to want to pair your FFXIV with a nice Merlot. I find that the smooth, complex fruity notes of merlot really compliment the heavy grind of an MMORPG.

I've had the pc and ps3 versions pre-ordered for about 3 weeks now. Not worried about the pc specs, but I am having trouble finding a 250g ps3. I figure i have plenty of time though.

Pre-ordered 2 copies from Gamestop (may cancel and get from elsewhere, not sure) for PC. Have money put aside and will buy a new PC closer to the release date. We may get a PS3 before then, but we prefer PC gaming for MMOs, so won't be getting a copy for that.

How much HDD space do you think the game will take up on PS3? I'd like to use that because I'm not sure my PC will play FFXIV at the same quality as my PS3. But if it could then I'd really like to play it for PC because I'd like to do things on PC that my PS3 cannot.

My build:
Intel Core2 Quad Q8300 @ 2.50 GHz
8 GB RAM DDR2
Windows 7 64
Nvidea GeForce GT 220

Was wondering how you hook this controller up to the PS3, given that the PS3 doesn't have any PS2 controller ports on it.

I used this controller on my PS2 for XI and still use the keyboard part for playing it on the 360, and it was nice on the PS2, but there's no way it's going to work for the PS3.

Newegg.com has 250GB 5400RPM Seagate Momentus HDs for your PS3 for just 50 bucks. I bought a 30GB older PS3 and just put that HD in, works great. That's the cheapest price you'll find it for, good luck!

With something like this -> http://www.amazon.com/PS2-Controller-Adaptor-Sony-playstation-3/dp/B000PS1TG6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1270504823&sr=8-1

Also I haven't preordered yet, still holding out for that XB360 announcement, or maybe a PS3 purchase. If anything, I prefer 360. :)

I'm glad the talk about Logitech Netplay Keyboards came up in this Thread. I have a question: What would be the best PS2 to PS3 adapter to use that has been proven to work for the PS2 to PS3 swap?

According to Amazon the one I linked was the best reviewed (not saying it's the must have) but, take that how you want :P

We might have met possibly some point within the past 4-6 years when I boxed, been all over Florida. In Kissimmee now, settling down. Everywhere in Florida is pretty nice in its own way. Ever been to Miami? That's where I've spent a lot of time at American Top Team. Face is familiar though, lol. I like playing with people from the surrounding area, so shoot me a PM with your PSN.

Don't have a PSN yet, no PS3. 360 is what I roll. And yeah, I went to Manatee High School in Bradenton, and I've been all over Florida as well. Still residing in Naples settling down myself, lol.

Yea, may be a while for 360, that's why I bought a PS3. Got red rings four times, gave up. If you watch the Vanafest video closely (#4) in almost every cubicle you'll see there's like two to three PS3 controllers laying around. I searched for 360 ones more than once, with no success. I don't even think they're working on it much right now. Who knows..

You can get the ps3 controller to work with the PC easily, or you can buy a wireless adapter for a 360 controller. Personally, I like the 360 controller.

Just for clarification, I bot, sell gil, buy gil, MPK, party naked through the dunes, power level, play as a Ranger, quit when they nerf it and complain, play as a Beastmaster, quit when then nerf it and complain, make posts for and against RMT, monopolize NMs, create elitist groups, run casinos, steal gil, hack accounts, and stare at you awkwardly with my left eye.

If worst comes to worst I will pick up a PS3, I had one before but back then there were very few games to keep me tied to it. I do still get the emails from PSN so I'm betting my ID is still intact. I really want it for 360 though, cause I have a hella lot of friends on there. lol.
