Choose Server on LoginFollow

It would solve so many problems from XI:
1)Overcrowding- people in an overcrowded server would be able to easily log out if they choose to do so and join another server.
2)Never seeing a friend in a different server- If you and a friend own the game you might never see them cause they're in a different server.
3)Lack of gameplay diversity- with different amounts of people in servers you can one day play a server with a few people on a soloing mission, and the next play in a large party on a crowded server.

It's ridiculous that in XI you needed to pay money to switch your server. Such an incredible waste of money. Most any other mmo you look at today will have server choosing at login, why shouldn't this? I hope SE adds this feature.

I don't think I really like the idea of server hopping to be honest.

I liked having the same people on the same server all of the time. You meet and get to know alot of people.
While you may not befriend everyone, you still get to know everyone you meet and you remember who they are. There's a sort of bond.
You build a community. I'm sure on every server, there were those players that EVERYBODY knew. They almost become famous on your server in a way.

I think something like this could be a bit difficult if people are constantly jumping around from server to server.
Know what I mean?

Server jumping from day to day would ruin the game for crafters. You could imagine people jumping from server to server buying low and selling high. Would be crap.

Ohh never thought about that. That could potentially ruin a server economy.

I would like to see one free server change within the first month or so. And if not free, at least make the option available for a fee. There will be people who accidentally join the wrong server when they sign up (didn't get the LS memo?) and it would stink to have to put any work to waste.

This I like.
1st month or 2 a free 1 time transfer or maybe even a first time transfer at no cost and anything fter that a small transfer fee would be fine by me.

It's almost impossible to do this, you would need one huge server with every single account data and then subservers which act as portals between worlds.

The thing with seperate servers is that if one has a problem or a glitch it means that they can take that one server offline and fix the problem whilst the rest remain.

If you had one major server and a problem occurs you have to shut the whole game down.

It would play **** with the ecconemy on servers unless they somehow make all AH span across worlds, I don't think SE have the experience to do something on this scale, Blizzard maybe but not SE.

Yea I would agree with everyone, it just doesn't make sense to jump around. But yea to have a 1 time transfer or something might be a good idea. But after all, if you join the wrong server, what's your character gonna be in a day or two? In FFXI, you might be at the dunes or in Qufim, so to have to restart wouldn't be that horrible.

One free transfer would be nice. I transferred a few times in WoW, as friends I'd meet over time played on all different servers.

I'm hoping SE allows us to have more than one character for our monthly fee. I'm willing to pay $15 a month for, say, five characters. And those five characters can be on whichever server I want.

I think it's fair enough having to pay the normal fee and then a small extra fee if you want an extra character - instead of having everybody paying a higher fee even if they don't want more than one character.

But anyway, I don't want server-hopping to be really easy throughout the game so you can't have a proper community on each separate server. The one-time free server change within the first month makes sense

I didn't mean I should have 5 characters, all to be on different servers. Server jumping is just as bad as pearl hopping imo.
If I had the option of 5 characters, I'd have my main and 3 mules in all probability. I was a packrat in FFXI. I think I saved 50% of the gear I acquired over 3+ yrs. ><
Having extra characters available would be cool, if only to go say hi to a friend.

I hope they do the same thing they did with FFXI currently where when you create your character you get to pick a server. It was easy to call up your friend and say "Hey let's be on Siren." and then boom your both there and don't have to worry about being on different servers then your friends. I have a feeling we might have to do it the old FFXI way(in the beginning years of FFXI) where we are just put somewhere so as to balance out the servers in the beginning of FFXIV. We'll just have to wait and see what is the case.

It's been such a long while ago I couldn't remember...

When you first started playing FFXI, will it let you select which server you wanna play in? Or it randomly assigns you to one that has the least player population?

I really hope that for FFXIV they'll at least give us the option to choose which server we wanna play at first o.O

Originally XI dumped you into a random server with the lowest populations. Today you are able to choose the server to create on, possibly only for your first character. I'm not sure if that part is a brain **** or not.

I'm sure you will be able to choose where you land in XIV, and the developers have stated they want to make it easy for friends to start together at release.

A lot of people I know, both in real-life and in-game, would be very upset if at start up you were just dumped onto a random server. We've been planning a way to coordinate our core group with each of our individual branches with the release of the game.
At this point, between people I actually know who plan to play, know from FFXI, or friends of those people, we already have about 30 people who all want to make sure we all get on the same server.
