Welp, I've ran out of games to actively play and pursue. My last dangling thread was TF2, and now all I do all day is idle on that. There are no games that currently interest me, if they did get released i probably beat them. I'm looking to start up FFXII, but it doesn't appeal to me. I'm a PC gamer. I'd start FFXI, but it'd take me a year to get where I want in the game. I never been in a gaming drought like this. THERE'S NOTHING TO PLAY EXCEPT FPSs. How am I gonna wait til the end of the year for this game? I want it NOW!

Luckily it's the summer and i don't plan on spending much time on the weekends playing games so it works out.

All i do is troll these forums in my spare time too... i'm board lol

I would play the FF series. But it just doesn't interest me anymore. I might, just might play FFXII now. After that, I don't know what to do.

That game is built on fail. I played it for a few months and can't stand it anymore...

Basically think of a game where you are preset to play with certain people that are utterly terrible. Their matchmaking system gives everyone a certain rating and balances each team based on those rating. Funny thing is it usually balances a few high end people with incredibly unexperienced players and vice versa.

If it wasn't for that atrocious matchmaking system i would say give it a try, but i can't now... please just stay away from it.

Give Dungeon and Dragons Online a whirl. It's a bit dated but you'll find the dungeon system kind of cool.

Plus it's free! (Best free MMO out there imo)

I second that (except the addicting part). Ignore boriss. The game is fun whether or not you lose every game. Either way they are working on the matching system to stop that sort of thing from happening.

Ignore this guy.

League of Legends is one of the best team-oriented games ... ever

I've been playing since closed beta, and since release my record is something like 175-165 ... Over 300 games. The Matchmaking system is not perfect, but it's generally awesome. Most of the time, it puts new players against other new players, and more experienced players against more experienced players. There is a hidden ELO score (think WoW arena, but you can't see your score) so it keeps you in the right category of game.

If you have friends to game with, it's easy to get them to play LoL with you - because it's free! It's actually one of the best implementations of a Free2Play model that I've seen in any game to date. Put simply, the only thing you can not get for free are skins, which are purely cosmetic. Everything else in game, and notably anything that actually affects gameplay, can be unlocked either by earning "influence points" (which you get for playing, win or lose) or by spending real money. Most people I play with have spent $20 on the game just to support the company, because most people are in love with the game.

League of Legends is amazing. It's truly the best thing to enter the gaming scene in years. When you start playing, you end up against new players and the basics are easy to pick up in an hour or two... and after hundreds or thousands of hours, you'll see that it's an incredibly deep and complex multiplayer experience.

How? You said nothing that disputes what i said.

If you don't believe me that the matchmaking is broken, please look here:

http://www.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=22605

a 2,100 post long thread with screenshot after screenshot of bad games... i need to say more? Yes i will.

I have just as many games as you do, i played since open beta and i enjoyed it yes. However anything beyond the simple "i'm playing a game" goes away quickly if you plan on being competitive to any minor extent, after all who likes losing all the time.

It is a team oriented game just like Dota was, in fact exactly the same. The matchmaking system is far FAR from awesome. Just because it's free doesn't change

I'm not going to go into a huge discussion on why the game is good or bad, but personally if you plan on being at all SLIGHTLY competitive this is not the game. It's hard to carry a team that's dragging their butts and it's even harder to find knowledgable people to play with depending on the bracket you get stuck in.

If you don't want to play FPSs, you probably shouldn't be restricting yourself to PC, the three-genre platform. This is a ridiculously packed year for console releases, and particularly PS3.

Nothing wrong with that.

I've been playing Modern Warfare 2, Rainbow Six: Vegas 2, Grand Theft Auto 4, Need for Speed: Shift, Flight Simulator X, Bad Company 2, Everquest 2, Fallout 3, Farcry 2, and of course old faithful... Unreal Tournament 2004. There's a lot of really good games out on PC. There's a lot of really good games I have no desire to play like Borderlands, Oblivion, etc.

Worse case find a new hobby. If you have nothing to play until FFXIV, what are you going to do if FFXIV sucks? Have nothing to play...

Do you solo-q?

I play with friends. We are competitive. And we're pretty **** good.

I've been in my share of matchmaking fail games. I know that it's an ongoing issue. But you stated it like it broke the game. It doesn't. It does mean frustration from time to time, but the people who lose more than they win and complain about matchmaking are usually the ones that drag good teams down. I'm not saying you're that, but you really can only blame matchmaking fail to a certain extent.

If you're good, come hop on vent and play w/ my boys. We're always looking for more to add to friends, provided you're good and communicative. My name in game is Trubbles. We play a game every week day at 530pm EST.

The game is just plain awesome when you get to the level that you're building team comps, tailoring builds against your enemies, etc. And now there are even 3v3 rated games! Just awesome ...

haha... yeah i do. Usually my friends aren't on when i am and when they are we are out of touch by a few minutes so 1 of us is in a game and the others aren't.

Thanks for the offer i would totally consider coming to play with you but i tried out about 3 matches of TT and lost 2 of them because of stupid pre-mades, got fed up and uninstalled.

Matchmaking solo- queue... yeah unbelievably broken, pre-mades are the only way to go. I've played some good solo games with people but it's few and far between.

Guess i should have specified... please play with friends! lol

I can see where you are coming from, FFXI and TF2 have been keeping me happy along with my wii which I just got last january. I can definitely see now being almost to late to start up FFXI and get really anything accomplished. I'd say try some of the free options people have suggested, D&DO is actually really good for being free, just so long as you don't find yourself playing maple story I think you'll be fine (auugh maple story). As far as TF2 goes I got in with a pretty good community of guys on the Honk server, and now I play lobby with 4-5 of them and have an absolute blast.

Since I work in a school, I'll have (most) of the summer off with only my other part-time job to fill the days. I plan on re-reading George R R Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series (again) on audiobooks while I walk and enjoy summer (HBO is going to start filming A Game of Thrones this summer), sit on the grass with a good book and cats (can't tell I'm a librarian, can you?), play whatever catches my fancy at the time (probably for a few days then I'll get bored), garden, and generally be outside as I'm moving this fall and probably will not have a yard again for quite some time.

And hopefully get into the Beta, of course.

Edit: Can't type.

Every F2P MMO I have ever tried to get into has been a waste of time.

My favorite, by far, is Runes of Magic. It is actually a decent game - until you reach end-game and the game revolves around trying to make you spend money as opposed to actual quality content. To make a long story short, it ruined the best F2P MMO out there. There was also the promising "Allod's Online" that shot itself in the proverbial foot the day they launched their item store. Someone somewhere thought all "Americans" are rich and therefore charging US$20 for a bag upgrade from 18 to 24 slots, or $0.50/hr for a buff required for raiding and PvP, would be no sweat to all us "rich Americans." Suffice to say, down the toilet their game went.

If you want to try an F2P game, I strongly suggest taking a step away from MMOs. Battlefield Heroes (By EA) is a good, fun game that is F2P. League of Legends is a DoTA-successor that is F2P and has shaped up to be one of the top new games of 2009. It's amazing. If you like RPG-style action, it is a great game with an incredible amount of depth.

I wouldn't say all F2P mmos are terrible.

There are some incredibly good ones which you can play for free.

One such game I played about six months ago was Atlantica Online. Mid-high level graphics, not too much of a time sink and the item shop didn't completely overbalance the game for most of the population. More than anything else, it was innovative in a way I haven't seen for quite a while, with everyone else making WoW clones.

Wow, you've been playing the wrong ones then. I'd dare say that MOST of the F2P MMOs are somewhere between terrible and mediocre, but there are a number that are good to excellent.

Atlantica was mentioned above. Its an innovative spin on MMOs, but didn't appeale to me very much. I can very much understand why some people would love the game. Its worth trying.

Dungeons and Dragons online is an excellent F2P MMO. Good graphics, solid game play. It is, however, one of the more difficult MMOs out there. (Yes, more so than FFXI.) There is no regenerating mana or HP except in town OR at special shrines within dungeons. You have to be very very careful what you do or you simply won't have the resources to finish the dungeon. It is VERY rewarding when you finally accomplish something though. The sense of accomplishment is very real unlike some other games (yes, I'm looking at you WoW.) I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a real challenge.

For PS3 gamers, try White Knight Chronicles.

The offline story game is ok. And also it's got an online questing mode. I havent't played that side of it much yet, but have read about it and the harder quests require groups off up to 4 players and your character can be moulded into certain roles like tank, DD, black mage and healer/support.

It's got about 50 online quests which are just like instanced missions and boss battles.

Plus you can make your own little towns that can be used as game lobbies.
