Should SE add /random to FFXIV? This would pave the way for casino mules. What's your thought?

They will likely add gambling minigames for you to actually SIT YOUR @#%^ING *** DOWN AT A TABLE AND CHAT WITH FRIENDS WHILE PLAYING.

Aka, they said they're adding more social mini-games for you to play with friends - more excuses to be lazy about leveling up.

End of subject. I can't believe you didn't bother to research this. LAZY @#%^. :U

Lay off the meth before you post next time, k?

I would be surprised if their wasn't a /random feature. The potential for casinos would be a poor reason to exclude it.

Agreed. Just because people MIGHT use the random number generator to make a casino doesn't mean they should exclude it for the rest of the people who want to use it for other purposes.

...come to think of it, what else do people use it for?

(I'm considering rolling for loot another mechanic entirely)

For non-bound items, it's handy to have in case a mistake was made with the "real" roll and redistribute the item based on the outcome. It can also be used in a master looter scenario where you bypass the automated system and have select people do a /random to determine who receives a particular item. There are a number of uses for it from purely functional to silly and ultimately pointless and I wouldn't consider it a make or break feature of a game, but I also can't think of a legitimate reason to exclude it. If MMO developers were to exclude everything that had the potential for abuse from their games, we'd be playing pong, only the "ball" wouldn't move and there would be no paddles.

Anoother use of random could be to get people in a "line", like for BCNMs in FFXI, to get to know who goes first and all.

Well, there is no paper-scissors-stone, so how else are you going to settle something fairly and randomly?

Who gets leader? /random

Who goes first? /random

Who buys the beer? /random

Who's the puller? /random

etc...

My server used it as an organized way to see who gets to claim the HNM, after the first LS wiped. Once the linkshell that was fighting whatever HNM began to get in trouble, every leader watching the fight would communicate and /random, and the leader that rolled the highest number got to claim it once the linkshell that was originally fighting it fully wiped. This worked exceptionally well and kept the drama on my server (Valefor) to a minimum compared to other servers for a long time (at least a year or two). Eventually all good things must come to an end and either a linkshell lost the random and stole claim anyway or new linkshells formed that didn't want to work under this honor system. This led to this rule eventually being disabled after being burned a few times, and just a spam fest for claim once you saw a linkshell in trouble.

There are plenty of other ways /random was used productively in FFXI as well, and if casinos do exist I don't see why that would be a huge problem anyway.

As long as we can still blacklist players I don't see the harm. I added every casino running player to my blacklist on the first offense and stopped seeing them altogether after awhile.

casinos end up getting annoying, although there isn't really that much wrong with them.

Having casinos is definitely a good idea but you still have to have /random. There's nothing fairer than chance.

i don't mind casinos, they are just one of the many spices of /shout and city life. having people advertising their gambling games is one step closer to making a city/town actually feel like the boisterous places they should be.

Y'know, I actually do agree. Enjoying /shouts...that's not a belief that you hear very often.

I'm all up for the idea of Casinos.. **** people should be able to waste their money any way they want.

They would need to be officially enforced and incorporated into the game mechanics. If not, then there will be cheaters and it will cause problems for some... although the underground aspect of taking the risk that you might get screwed over is kinda appealing too.. ads a bit of realism.
