Alpha/Beta Tester ResponsibilityFollow

I just wanted to send a message to those alpha/beta testers who read Zam a message that I feel speaks for most people who did not get into the alpha and/or will not get into the beta. I know most people will say this is unnecessary...but I would like to have this out there regardless.

Most people are playing the alpha and wishing to get into the beta in order to experience this new game first hand. To try out the various new system and (for some) to get a "heads up" in order to know the ropes before the game is released. Also, alot of people signed up for this chance to see the amazing world SE has designed. I just hope 1 thing is not lost on those testing right now and in the future. The reason for these tests.

I think I can speak from the community by saying "We are relying on all of you". This is a great oppertunity you all have been given to make FFXIV the best game out there for years to come. I hope anyone who is testing the game not only is having a great time, but also being very vocal on things they believe should be changed and reporting even the smallest bug that comes up.

In the past, everyone here on ZAM as well as everyone who has played FFXI has heard the phrase "We cannot make that change now" and "Thats not possible due to how the game was designed". This is YOUR oppertunity to ensure all of us FFXI, WOW, Aion, EQ, and all other MMO players have a voice. This is your oppertunity to make sure the game (at release) is the best product any MMO company can release to the general public. We all have faith in each and every one of you that allong with making new friends and experiencing the new world....you are also taking personal responsibility to do your best as a Alpha and future Beta Tester!

Again, some may say this post is not needed (or is intuitive). Regardless, I just wanted to have this "out there" for everyone to see that we thank everyone in Alpha (and in the future Beta) for the work they are doing for all of us and again to state "We are all counting on you".

Your heart is in the right place.

Problem is, the people who could actually benefit from reading this are the least likely to actually read it.

Nevertheless, you're absolutely right. Alpha/Beta is not a "free trial." Unfortunately, lately the marketing trend has been to use "beta" as "pre-launch marketing." This isn't the case for FFXIV, especially considering how hard it seems to be to get into the beta, but those new to the gaming scene might be under the false assumption that alpha/beta is just a free trial.

It's okay, though. For every useless tester, there is another tester who files detailed bug reports numerous times per hour, who knows how to spot, narrow the source of, and describe bugs and who will help the dev team iron out the wrinkles.

I 100% agree. The way I look at it is this. Of all the testers who view ZAM and would not take the Alpha/Beta seriously. If at least 20 of those read this thread, and of those 2-3 take it seriously after understanding the product of their testing, then that is 2-3 more testers who are doing everything in their power to ensure the game is the best it can be.

Plus, I intended this as a big "thank you" to all those who do take this process seriously to begin with (which is most likely a large majority).

And for every useless tester, Square Enix gains a warm body for server load testing. At least that makes them not entirely useless.

And for those who aren't currently part of the test group; If you happen to know someone who is and you come across something odd or wrong in any media you may have stumbled upon, don't be afraid to have them report things for you.

It's a reason just like this that I hesitated before I registered for the PS3 beta trail.
I was torn. Of course, I wanted to see this beautiful new game as soon as possible. But I've never beta tested before. I felt it may have been a better choice leave the spot open for someone who knew what they were doing and could do it "the right way". Then it hit me, if I don't at least try then someone else, who is only playing to see what it's like, will most likely get "my spot".

If I do get in, I plan to truly do my best to test the game. I want to try ridiculous things that shouldn't happen, like running through mountains and walls. I want to test battle for different situations and make sure that things work out the way they are described. I'd like to give my fair and detailed opinion to make this a game that I will want to play for years to come.

After that's done, and I know I've given it my best shot, I can be proud to say that I was part of the testing and I had input in this great game that we're all terribly addicted to.

I agree. Someone who is sincere in their intention to actually test, regardless of whether or not they're sure they will know what to look for in all areas is a greater asset to the testing process than someone who signed up intending to treat it like a free trial.

Nice post OP. I never was in a beta or alpha test of any sort, which is why I decided I'd rather wait for the official release of the game thus not signing up for beta for FFXIV. I hope the people who got in are doing a great job finding the problems that need to be fixed before the release date. Good luck to those in this current process!

From what I've seen and heard, the Alpha so far is very laggy and prone to crash. It doesn't seem like a walk in the park at this point, so if any tester is playing it and not reporting problems, I'm quite baffled.

My channel with FFXI battle music and hard to find songs that were not even released on Original Soundtracks.

I also plan on uploading FFXIV music when the game is released.

An Alpha Tester on another forum who had done a live stream during NA Alpha Test 1 and was banned for it.
Pooky seemed to take getting caught red handed with enough acknowledgment of the inevitability and good humor that any folks not impressed by the brazenness of the action itself are charmed enough to forgive and forget. Others see any breech of the NDA as blasphemy. Martyr or Traitor, take your pick.

**** i'm not going to lie, i'm glad he did it from the standpoint of, "hey I get to see what its like", but he fully well knew the rules and paid the consequences for them. Its a shame though because **** as he even pointed out people are there just to play it like a free trial and he was actually reporting bugs as he came across them. I especially smiled when the guy who joined them left the party because he wasn't making enough XP lol.

So I heard you're going to be playing the discipline White Knight in FFXIV, is this true?
