Will the storyline missions be played through the guildleve system? If so, it seems like it would take away from the authenticity of them. It would be more like playing through the chapters of a storybook rather than doing things in real time that affect Eorzea.

These are just my thoughts.. does anyone else have opinions about this?

There are Guildeve quests, and normal quests.

I sure do hope that this is confirmed and not just speculation. I had a lot of fun doing my nation quests in FFXI. Especially when they let you team up with members of other nations for different reasons. It was great to move the story along, and just that there was a good story was awesome.
I also had pride in knowing that I was rank 10, I wish I had finished the expansions before I stopped playing. I always wanted my Ethereal Earring for finishing Zilart.

I don't really understand what your concerns are. Instancing? The big mission battles in FFXI were already instanced. Does it really matter if the tower you're climbing to get there is too? Like chapters in a story? They pretty much were in FFXI too. It'll probably work similar to FFXI, but who knows, we don't really know much about it.

Not at all.

My concern is that instead of going to the mayor of a town to learn of a great evil force that you must prevent (just an example), you would go to a random guildleve vender who turns over a card saying the same thing. Guildleves give the sense that everything is predetermined and I think that would lessen the excitement of the missions. I would rather feel like I'm actually out saving the town and being useful than to fulfill the requirement on random card #43.

But.. since there will be both guildleve quests and regular quests I think there's nothing to worry about :)
