How many people are going to become the future tanks of Eorzea? What kinda of tank are you going to be?

Are you going to be a Lalafall meat shield, or how about a Roegadyn evasion tank.

How are you going put your stats? Lot of vit, and hp, but low str and dex? Mix of hp/def/str? No hp, but very high def, or the other way around? Mabey lot of agi for evasion, be good for a Pugilist tank.

How about abilitys(if able to take from other jobs leveled and such). Well you take abilitys from a Pugilist, like the 'Mocking Provoke (Whistle tauntingly to increase enmity.)', or would you take some skills from a Marauder like the 'Defender(Tighten your guard, increasing defense and reducing attack power. Increases enmity generation while in steadfast stance.)
Mabey both if can take skills from more then one class you have leveled.

Share how you would level your tank to protect the people of Eorzea.

Myself going to be a Lalafall, Gladiator. I'll mostly work on vit,hp more then str/dex. Which since i'll try to keep high def, wont get many enmity from normal atks. I'll mostly get Pugilist Mocking Provoke to help keep the monster(s) on me.

i think you'll end up throwing a life jacket to STR somewhere down the road. maybe i'm being pessimistic in thinking that you'll need some damage along with your enmity abilities to keep up with the DDs, but as a future healer i like the comfort zone that is healing just you and not the squishies.

Wildwoods Elezen Gladiator here.
I'll probably be balancing my STR and health in a way that doesn't hurt either.
Planning on staying close in skill to a couple of friends who will be going dps and heals.
The Hawktail sword looks too nice to pass up, I'll be working my way to buying one of those.

As for the abilities, besides the Gladiator ones, I'm hoping the time between Provokes won't be too long.
If its a long cool down, maybe even grabbing the taunt from Pugilist as well as a couple abilities form Marauder.
(Enduring March, Defender) From the Marauder abilities we know of so far.
(Mocking Provoke, Featherfoot?) from Pugilist.

I've even considered going a hybrid of Magic and War to recreate a Paladin like mesh of abilities.
Things like Cure are already there, but maybe later on there will be spells like Flash and maybe a Dispel for status ailments.

i plan on being a lancer but having skills from various other classes that allow me to hold my own vs a target. SE has said that the monsters in the game will also be in parties so that means that other classes will have to be able to tank to some degree.

Two playable races in FF14.

Not really. Not sure what this has to do with FF14, except maybe you can't pronounce Lalafell or Roegadyn?

If I could rate you down I would do it in a heartbeat but since that isn't a option i'll just up my post count and bump this thread instead.

My channel with FFXI battle music and hard to find songs that were not even released on Original Soundtracks.

I also plan on uploading FFXIV music when the game is released.

I plan on being a Elezen marauder tank, I will tank things by killing them before they can do any damage to me!

The awesome thing is Warmonger(+hate)+Bloodbath(drain hp)+Retaliation(+counter)+Foresight(+parry) skills might make this feasible :D

Hyur Highlander Gladiator just seems so fitting. But in all honesty its been hard for me to decide on what I'm gonna be so this is inconclusive.

Think im going to go with a Roegadyn Gladiator. Concentration on HP and maybe VIT depending on the effect it has. The reason not for a high STR(in my opinion)is that in FFXIV were not tanking one mob at a time.. but PT vs PT. I think this time around your skills and DEF will play a bigger part as a tank than how much damage you do.

I'm not sure if my pugilist will be a tank or a dd, I would have to see how they are in action. Although if I wanna go the assassin route, I will more than likely have to give up the tanking bit. So I can't say for sure at this time :(

I'm leaning towards Hyur guardian with stats roughly balanced between threat, avoidance, and health. I don't see much point in being able to take an epic beating if I can't generate enough threat to let the damage classes around me do their thing.

I'd love for my pugulist to beat things hard enough to take aggro, then have high enough evasion and health to last a while. Pretty much be a DD with ability to make tank type classes look silly :D

Yes, we must stamp those blasted Elezen out before they bombard us with their "Elezen > All" threads.

On a somewhat serious note, I can see myself being a Marauder tank, but I plan on being a Seawolf.

an Elezen Marauder with pugilist evasion/counterattacks named White Lion

but it seems every melee fighter specializes in a certain form of defense/healing

Gladiator counters from blocking and heals by blocking
-gets in the face of the enemy, covers allies
Marauder counters from parry and heals by striking
-draws the enemy through hate generating stances
Pugilist counters from evasion and heals on command with chakra
- also has skills to dodge multiple attackers from all directions.

Lancers though just avoid being hit with distance and Jump, and don't seem to have any Provoking moves (instead a hate transfer like trick attack)

I had fun tanking with my Taru Pld, so I plan to see how it goes with a Lalafell.

I think it's funny and awesome to see a little guy tank a giant mob.

I wanna kill stuff, so I dont think I'll be a tank, but I wanna be a Roegadyn Pugilist, and if it's anything like FFXI, I'll end up tanking, so I may have to focus on evasion, agi, and str to make sure I can keep hate. But then again, you never know, I may be able to just take hits without worrying about evasion, and if that's the case...I'll just beef up on ATT

For sure choosing Gladiator as my first job, Elezen Race. Not sure which Tribe just yet. I think I'm going to build my Tank the same way I built mine in XI and on Demon's Souls. Lots of VIT, HP, DEF

It'll go a lot better since race no longer effects base stats. It's gonna be really funny seeing Roegadyn mages, haha. I probably still won't invite them, call me old fashioned.

Hopefully there'll be a way for Gladiators to keep hate by doing damage, like PLDs have evolved to these days in XI. Just so I'm not completely useless outside of tanking situations.

there will be all kinds of abilites for your gladiator to deal damage, all you have to do is put some skills from the other DD classes on it and you will be solid. tanking a mob in the same spot for a while and you arent taking much damage? maybe throw on an offensive pugilist stance and charge a powerful marauder ability to greatly increase your enmity. maybe you can put away your shield and bring out some dual wield action?

the whole concept of the game is to build your class the way you want to play it which is really exciting, evetually the cookie-cutter builds will arise, that is inevitable. however at the beginning of the game when everyone is having fun you should expect to see some serious creativity going on.

I do hope SE releases some info on whether or not dual wield will be in the game at launch or if it's something we will see later on down the line. That could make for some very interesting tank builds for sure.
