I'm afraid of RMT threat when FFXIV get released.
SE did very good job against RMT for FFXI with their STF and RMT-PAWNER program.
However, there were still alot people who get caught from RMT.

I haven't played FFXIV yet, but there is a factor that would cause RMT.
As you know already, there is going to be Durability for the Weapon and armor. Alot of game come out with Enhancement System with Durability. Weapon and Armor Enhancement System is a major factor that cause RMT among people in most of games. Because every player want to be best among every player in game, they will try to purchase the best equipment in market. Even though FFXIV wouldn't have PVP contents, there will be mini game like Ballista in FFXI. In that case, alot of player will join in RMT. I don't want to see it!!!

sorry, I chose wrong word. I meant to say Weapon and Armor Enhancement!!!!

Such as <<Great Sword +1~10>>

I fail to see why weapon & armor enchantments have anything to do with RMT. FFXI didn't really have such a thing until recently, and yet there were RMT all over the place.

How does having or not having a enchanting system determine whether or not some one wants to be the most ultimate in a game? FFXI never had systems like this till recently and way back in the day RMT was a lot worse as well. I don't see how it causes more RMT.

If you get a weapon enchanted that doesn't lose durability = high selling price = RMT dream.

(Edit: not that the above will actually be in the game, but it may help see where OP is coming from... maybe)

Anything that increases the durability or restores it or reduces how much it gets reduced by is also likely to sell for a lot of money because it will be needed.

That would depend entirely on how difficult or expensive it is to repair an item. If it is a minor hassle (like in Diablo 2, for example) I don't think people will care all that much

Sorry, I chose wrong word. I meant Enhancement not Enchantment.

FFXI had a RMT problem because the way the economy was set up, it created a huge market for it. Things were too expensive and making gil took waaaaaay too long. If they can fix that it will go a long way to reducing RMT. Plus they did finally seem to be able to get RMT under control in FFXI so if they keep doing that, it hopefully won't take off like it did in FFXI.

But honestly, when I think about it, witht he way the economy was, I have a hard time blaming people for buying gil....

From the way the OP chose his words I believe he is referencing a "Perfect World International" style of Weapon and Armor Enhancement. In that game you could use dragon orbs to add +1, +2 +3 etc all the way to a maximum +12, the dragon orbs were also very expensive, It would cost a player about $1,500.00 USD to refine a weapon all the way to +12.

It is completely irrelevant because Perfect World International was a cash shop based game lol, but I see what he was trying to say about the Enhancement system (as it was in P.W.I.) causes players to attempt to "buy" their strength with real life cash, so he sees that it would cause people to turn to RMT for the currency to refine, instead of buying the items from a cash shop.

Of course their will always be ways for people to advance faster in ANY MMO(if they actually posses game knowledge as well) in certain aspects when they buy their currencies from RMT, It will not be so simple and obvious. P.W.I. was a game entirely built around making the cash shop and the purchasable items seem necessary, and make you powerful enough to get you to want to drop the cash.

This is Final Fantasy, we build our strength through blood, sweat and our enemies tears. Not a cash shop.

RMT are just there to keep the n00bs feeling elite, lol.

Edited for grammar.
