Right, because more customization options and less dopplegangers in-game is a bad thing. You're so right man.

"Oh wait, that's not my friend; he may have the exact same hairstyle, skin color, and gear, but his eyes are different"

Not that I'm against changing of eye color or anything, but having an option for heterochromia seems a bit much. As for the other two, they're not that bad. The Hellsguard just looks angry because he was out in the sun too long is all.

How can any bit of customization be too much? I just don't understand this logic. I've never seen anyone complain about having too many customization options to choose from.

You don't like heterochromia? Don't use it. Same thing goes for the Hellsguard.

Have fun copying and pasting your character from XI I guess.

Personally I couldn't be happier about all this new customization info we're getting. I mean to me it looks like you can customize your eyes alone better than you could customize your entire character in XI.

That's a logical fallacy.
You could merely have those options selectable within a single race instead of splitting options between two clans.
It's not there to provide more options, just to give the RP demographic some flavor. Which is A-ok in my book.

I would love to enjoy something new.
Let me know when that actually gets around to appearing.

Meh, the customization looks decent...from the screenshots, and hey, I have no problems with there being different types of each race, more options=better!

The only time I think there could be too much cuztomization is in games like Fallout 3 where you could customize every little thing and you would never even see you characters face... Just seems like a big waste of time to be able to make my nose bigger or smaller when I'm never even gonna see it.

The level of custimization in FFXIV will be cool though because you will actually be able to see your own character and others.

Yeah, and hopefully, there is a hide head cover option (did XI have one?) so that those wearing plate can see their faces :P

But yeah, there is (usually) no such thing as too much customization/options

No matter how good the idea is, no matter how logical it is, no matter how much it makes sense, no matter how many people it will make happy and how little harm it will do, there will ALWAYS be some one to argue it, especially on the internet.

But in Fallout 3 there were also default faces to choose from for people who didn't care what they were going to look like. That's the beauty of a customization system, you can choose not to use it and it isn't going to hurt you ONE BIT. Be as uncreative as possible, really who's gonna notice?

But for those of us who DO care it makes a world of difference and we would actually notice it not being there. I remember hating XIs customization options so much when I first started, it was like some kinda joke. I couldn't be happier with what they are doing with XIV.

Hmmm interesting! The Dunesfolk's jewel on their foreheads represent their zodiacal sign... so does that mean it's not something you choose in the character creation until you choose your nameday/patron god or goddess? Nice to hear the Zodiacal stuff might play a part in this game.
