It's also a load of crap. If SE...the people developing the game...haven't announced a release date, what makes you think a retailer has any idea? It's a filler date, nothing more, nothing less.

it's plausible, they'd be taking nice advantage of the holiday season.

i'd still put my money on late fall though.

Summer isn't happening, get over it. If this isn't a late Q4 release, I say Q1 (which I highly doubt) of 2011. At a Business stand point of things, SE will want to close out the 2010 Fiscal year with some XIV money in their pocket early. Also it's the Holidays and WoW is on the way

So I went to amazon.com and ****! $59.99!? Did they pull the price out of there *** too? Or is that the going rate for MMOs in the current gen?

Beta/Alpha is supposed to be longer than XI. So June 21st is the earliest it should be out, if it's 2 weeks longer than XI. That said I think its going to be Oct/Nov before release :)

Like Final Fantasy XI, the game specs will be extremely high for the time, but in about 5 years, an average machine can run it on max settings with little to no issues. Tanaka also expressed interest in making a benchmark program available.

I've been saying mid Oct - Early Nov for a couple of months now. I just hope I'm right.

That's a pretty standard price. Not to say that's what FFXIV is going to cost, but $50-60 is pretty reasonable for a mainstream retail box these days.

Hasn't it been this way for a few years now? Why are people so surprised to see the $60 price tag?

Its a good bet that Amazon will offer a $10 Video Game Credit towards a future game purchase with FFXIV. They might even list the price at $56.99 at some point between now and release (they tend to do that for new releases).

I'll probably pile on some game credits by the time it comes out and I was lucky enough to snag FFXIV in my Amazon Quick Picks, so I get an additional 5% off too. Maybe I'll even get it free like I did FFXIII with promotional credits and gift cards (that I got with points from my credit card).

Not released by SE, not official. I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm guessing it'll be around mid October but at the latest mid November. Definitely somewhere in that window. Unless they wanna be smart and avoid all the other huge titles dropping this year in which case we may just see it in September.

A lot of pre-order companies will allow you to pre-order before a release date is announced, and based on if the quarter is known, or just the year, will put dates like "December 2010", because that basically says "I will be out in 2010." It's just a guesstimate made with the available information. My money's on November, but I am being optimistic.

That's my bad. I somehow got it in my head that a game with a subscription fee would be cheaper.

November 7, 2010... I can see them take a shot for the 8 year anniversary.

edit: talking in terms of PC release, of course.

That could be it. I hate to think they'd set a date like that just because it's an anniversary though. If the game is ready to ship I want it shipped!

If you want to wait a year or so after release, they'll probably release a free trial which you can then just start paying for membership, so therefore the box is free. But for a new release? Every major MMO box price has been in line with standard video games. I fully expect FFXIV to be $60 and probably a 30 free trial membership.

Speculating about the release date isn't going to do us any good but I am on board with the idea that they will try to get it out for the holidays. It just makes more sense for them to do that. Hopefully they don't rush and we have to delve into a game that is bug ridden, but in any event I can't wait for the release!
