Zero Hour - Social/Event Based CommunityFollow

Hello Everyone!

I wanted to stop by and let everyone know about a new Final Fantasy XIV linkshell/community that's starting up. We're looking to build a bit of a prelaunch community and to at least put together a foundation of players that can venture out into Eorzea together, recruiting more fresh faces as we go along.

The style of this community will be casual/social based, but we intend to also to pepper in some fun scheduled events that will allow us to get everyone in one place now and then, to have some fun as a group.

Anyway, to explain a little more about us, here's a blurb from our front page:

Quote:
Hello and welcome to the official Zero Hour web page!

I feel that the below is a very good representation of what we're all about, so before hitting the Apply button, please read the below carefully to ensure that this is the right community for you. I'll keep this as short as possible.

Zero Hour is primarily a social based Final Fantasy XIV community, and as such the requirements for our members are simple: Be Fun, Be Friendly, and Be Helpful!

Don't be fooled though, because Zero Hour is not just a chat room. We will be holding occasional events to help accomplish the goals of our members, to help members of our community get to know each other better, and to give us an excuse to get everyone together and have some fun!

In the months approaching the launch of the game we will be setting up a voice chat system which we would like to strongly encourage the use of, especially at launch, in order to get everyone acquainted with one another and to start building the bonds that are going to help this community strive.

The last thing I want to say is that if you're the type of player that is only going to be looking out for number one, and are only going to have your own best interest in mind everyday, please hit the back button now because that's not the type of person we're looking for.

If you're an individual who is looking to make a lasting group of friends, while working toward your goals, and at the same time helping other members toward theirs, you're absolutely the type we're looking for, hit the Apply button now!

In addition to the above, I am currently looking for a few like minded individuals who would be interested in playing a bigger part in this community, to become officers.

There will be no preferential treatment to officers, they will simply be individuals besides myself that are willing to donate their time for the good of the community and to assist in arranging events, planning games, and helping to resolve conflicts.

Thanks so much for reading, and if this interests you don't forget to tell your friends, your families, or your spouses as well!

You may not know this, but the admins will nuke/lock any posts that are made for the sole purpose of recruitment by people with low post counts. Seeing as how this is your first post, I figured it was only fair to warn you.

I'm not trying to stir up anything, but I really don't understand this.

How come the OP can post a recruitment thread without getting zinged, yet the previous 20 got flammed for like 5 pages? At the time of this posting, the karma is rated as "good". Some of you argue that the reason for this "is the nature of his group" (casual), but I don't really see it being any better or worse than a RP group, a group coming from another game, a group looking for crafters only, etc.

Let me just be clear on one thing, I have no problem with these threads at all. In fact, from experience I think most of us can agree that having a close group of friends is key not only to be successful in an mmo but also having a good time. But at least be consistent, people. If you don't like one recruitment thread, I can't see how you can like another; in essence they're all asking for the same thing, regardless of how they're worded.

The OP made a good choice by seeming to respect the feedback they receive from the first couple of replies indicating that people who sign up to these boards specifically to post recruitment threads are often unwelcome. Had they come back with a bunch of sniveling QQ, I'd expect this thread would be heading in an entirely different direction.

This is the first recruitment thread I've seen in a while. Put a couple more recruitment threads on the first page of the thread list and see how they all spiral into the depths of indignant rejection. My personal opinion is that a game in alpha is way too far away from retail release to be worrying about forming communities now. Not everyone will share that opinion, but it helps to divert my ire when the recruitment blurb is realistic and straightforward as opposed to, "We're gonna be FRIGGIN' HUGE!!" or "We're going to be ZOMFGUBER!!" followed by a 13 paragraph cut-and-paste charter.

The difficulty, as in all things dealing with larger groups of people, is that if you let one person do it, you have to let everyone do it. And so, from my point of view only, I'd prefer not to see people signing up for this community for the sole purpose of recruiting for theirs. Be a part of this community. Let people get to know you. As the game approaches launch, you'll have a group of people you're familiar with to draw from as opposed to a gaggle of strangers who may or may not buy the game, may or may not follow through on their stated intention to join, and may or may not be a good fit for what the community is aiming for.

At this point, every recruitment thread that's posted this early in the game's testing is not more than zerg recruitment, and experienced players don't join groups based on zerg recruitment ads. 9 times out of 10, those groups wind up as stagnant failures.

After the "previous 20" I'm just tired of being annoyed/mad. I just add the linkshellname to my list of "linkshellnames I need to hijack in FFXIV before they can get it, just so I can be an @ss" & ingore.
