What rôle do you want Goblins to play?Follow

#1 Apr 15 2010 at 6:56 AM Rating: Good
Generic enemy? Sometimes lovable greedy things like in FFXI? Badass evil things?

I liked the FFXI goblin persona, and how they sometimes tried to fit in with the non beastmen (usually for a profit). What do other people want to see?

I for one hope they reprise their FFXI role in being multifaceted.

For me, there was no other mob in the game that elicited a "oh here we go" response than that of the friendly goblin in all his/her shapes and forms. The familiar aggro growl from off the screen or the sudden magical explosion from a caster gobby at range on the group that made everyone panic, groan, and start scanning for someone to rez. I mean who doesn't recall the roaming ambusher or butcher or tinkerer in the second zone from town who would just wreck you? Or that friendly leecher or gambler who seemed to always wander into your group in the dunes and -ga spell the group? And oh what would the jungles have been like without that loving, blood-curtling screaming of "goblin train to zone!" followed shortly by a mad dash of groups with a Smithy or two in tow (pre-mPK patch)? Oh yes, I do hope they remain the same for XIV just for that love-hate relationship to endure.

I simply loved the fact that when you got a goblin add everyone tensed up and played their best. I just hope they are the same as they were in FFXI. They were perfect in FFXI.

Watching a Goblin decimate a fully healed PT from a safe distance is a sight to behold. And about their aggro growl, even walking around at LV75 in a lowbie zone just hearing it aggro someone else gives me a shot of adrenaline.

I also hope we get to see them out in the field and maybe some in a shop like Muckvix and the others.

A long endangered species of tinkerers. Their facination with Garlean technology assisted the empire in their, so thought, extinction. Needless to say, their great distrust of other races sprung from this abomination. Only a few remain in the land of Eorzea and are as hard to befriend as they are to find. Becoming allies with one of these creatures could grant access to power beyond comprehension in the form of Espers/Avatars, creatures from beyond the realm of humans and elves, whose power can only be controlled by shackles created from a combination of spiritual training and the most advanced technology in the goblin world. Should one of these creatures be set free while still in this world, it would certainly mean the end of Eorzea as we know it.

Oh man!!! Do not get me started. Ok so are we talking realistic roles or dream roles? For a realisitc role, I did like how they were presented in FFXI. Not always good, and not always evil. More of a neutral race. That being said, this leads to my dream role for them. Because they can be "good guys", I would actually love a playable Goblin race. That would make me ridiculously happy. I even have a FFXI Goblin-themed name already picked out! However, I am wise enough to know that the chances of this happening are practically zero. But **** I can dream **** it. I might even name my Lalafell with a Goblin name in honor of my love for them.

P.S. Goblins will whoop the sh*t out of all the other races!!

The goblin in XI was unique. I liked all their little quirks, like dropping bombs and blowing themselves up along with everyone else, their masks, how some would hide in cities in odd areas, no matter how empty the area was before attacking a monster a goblin always seemed to pop up out of nowhere and stab you in the back. Good times...

Lets hope Square does them justice in XIV as well. I would hate to have them be reincarnated as a simple run of the mill monster.

They were pretty much fine in FFXI with them having different personalities and alignments which made them somewhat believable.

They need the frying pan attack though

I remember vividly walking the first time into Muckvix's Junk Shop in Lower Jeuno. The first time in Movalpolos getting hit by frying pan or seeing a Gobbo blowing up the fireworks in his face are moments i will never forget.

Goblins are the unsung heroes of FFXI. They are so diverse, quirky and fun it would be a huge mistake to not include them in FFXIV.

I guess I'm with the majority here. I was happy with the way the goblins were in FFXI. Mostly a race of creatures who were out for themselves. Untrusting of the playable races, and mostly wild. I'd be more than happy if they returned the same way.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I'm glad to see that a lot of people feel the same way about the FFXI goblin crew.

I'm hoping to see a friendly city in the game (on the scale of a Selbina or Norg) populated by nothing but the little buggers.
