Class for casters will be determined not by the specific weapon, but by the type of pickle you attach to the weapon before heading out into the field. Also, fresh from the Alpha, there is a dog NM in the game named Eso that requires a full party to kill but has a chance to drop the already much-coveted Gherkin Jerkin that will be to the FFXIV community what the Noble's Tunic was to FFXI.

True story.

Excuse me, sir, but that was a very unhelpful post. You are not being an upstanding member of the FFXIV community here at Allahkhazam. I would ask you to organize your priorities before posting here again.

So... if I may take the tongue out of cheek for a moment. I'm pretty sure they had said casters will you wands, staffs, and canes among a couple of other things I can't remember right now.

I may or may not have read this in leaked info. But lets be honest here, I can't even tell whats leaked and whats an "allowed leak" anymore. So I'm not trying to sort it, or anything. I can honestly say I don't go out of my way to try to look for unofficial info, so whatever I stumble across, I'm pretty sure that it's been discussed a million times already.

Let's say that...hypothetically...there were people participating in the alpha who were doing a certain amount of dat mining (which could obviously not be the case because nobody would EVER dat mine a game in alpha, much less post the results). And let's say...hypothetically that they found no explicit weapon type associated with any of the caster classes (hypothetically announced or otherwise), then it might...possibly...suggest that the weapons used by casters may share certain physical characteristics but would, in fact, fall under different weapon categories.

Hypothetically.

Well the only weapons I can think of for mages are staffs, wands, canes, rods, brooms (Witch), puppets (not Xi Pup but FFX Lulu dolls), cards (tarot), books (I'd throw a book at someone while melee!), and orbs. Personally Orbs and Books I could see them melee if needed similar to Dancing Weapons in Xi. Also some musical instruments could be considered magical, don't kno if the have any musical entertainer plans in future yet.

Quite a bit you can do with weapons for DoM, heck almost anything could be considered a weapon as long as its magical. Look at Painter (Relm) from FF6, I would consider that a DoM over a DoH artist.

There are lots of different types of pickles, so I really think Aurelius may be on to something. There are Dill pickles, Sandwich pickles, German pickles, ...

To stay on topic, all these detailed game mechanics threads are fun I guess. But unless you're in the alpha/beta, you have 0 idea what FFXIV mechanics are like (And if you ARE in the alpha/beta, you're forbidden to share such info). I agree that it's fun to speculate, but we've been speculating for many moons now... I'm tired of speculating, I don't care what we players think FFXIV should be like, I just want to play it.

I know I'm being a party pooper but SE is only taking alpha/beta player advice at this point. If you're not an alpha/beta player your dreams mean nothing. Game mechanics are still unknown to us unlucky fans. Speculating just over hypes the game for me. I've already seen many incredible ideas that I know modern MMOs can't support, so I'm only going to be disappointed if I keep reading these forums. Haha. Hah. Ha. :(
