No no, this isn't a post about how awesome the armor will be, but rather about the simple pleasure of building a run around town gear.

We've all seen the ungodly clashing of colors while leveling into the mid 40s and 50s where you look like a 2 year old threw paint at you, and i'm hoping they abolish it in XIV to where we wont look like we just grabbed whatever out of our Mog House (for that matter, i HOPE mog houses come back in XIV, my guilty pleasure in XI was furnishing and decorating my little home)

But i'm hoping there's some option where you can build an "In town" gear set and equip it, because i rather enjoy wandering around and exploring in my Qiqirn Hood and Hume Gilet.

It's the little things in XI that keep me here :) I'm hoping XIV will have them.

Anyone else with me? against? undecided?

Also, i'm sure there's a post like this SOMEWHERE already, but i just could not locate it to save my life ; ;

You mean like the AF armor in FFXI that for the most part was useless in a group but people wore around town because they look cool?

I like the idea of being allowed a decint range of plain clothes and other nonarmors that we can wear around.

I don't know if there would be a setting for gear when you aren't in active mode, but I'm sure you'll be able to equip your favorite outfit to run around town in.

With all the possibilities, I really can't wait to see all the new kinds of armor that come out.

I almost feel that the add-ons for FFXI (Crystalline Prophecy, a Moogle Kopu d'Etat) were a sneak peek into the kind of gear we can look forward to in FFXIV.

I'm hoping with the ability to dye gear comes the ability to not blind myself with my own ugly.
If I can put together a functional ensemble, I'll probably want to wear it everywhere.

I like the idea of different city-states having unique leisure gear, or a unique style to it that would stand out as being from that region. So, for example, if a character is from Gridania maybe their leisure clothes would be more "woodsy" made of natural items like animal skin and bone, and designed for wide range of motion. But then maybe Ul'Dah would have clothing better suited to the desert, covering most of the body but light and breathable. This is all based on that I could infer from the pictures on the official FFXIV page. I'm not sure if my examples would really make sense in those regions.

If I still had premium, I'd post a pic of my Galka wearing one.

I'm not sure why we would have to wear anything we didn't like the look of at all. I think crafting should be the main focus of any gear system. You craft or have crafted an armor set that YOU like the look of and you can use it throughout the entire game or until you wish to look like something else. The gear would be statless of course, you would have to go to crafters of all kinds to have stats added to the pieces.

So assume I have a nice plate set I really like the look of. Well, I'd goto a blacksmith and have them add extra armor and stats to pieces. Goto an enchanter to have additional stats or passive abilities added to it. Of course for the best stats you would have to collect whatever special items drop from the raid bosses or farm difficult mats in order to synth them with your armor.

I like to look the way I WANT to look, not the way my class dictates I must look. Of course I think each class of armor needs to look different. I don't really like the idea of a light armor class prancing around in an outfit that looks like gladiator armor.

Just my two cents.

I'm hoping XIV circumvents the elitism in gear overall.

even with the above option of enhancing gear through crafts, it'll fall down to "You have to have gear upgrade xyz or you fail"

Though how to do that is beyond me, Possible a more advanced "Evolith" System or just passive abilities you can learn through leveling up your class level

I have to admit I had a large closet in XI and enjoyed wearing different "outfits" while traveling or hanging out waiting for an LS event. I am pretty sure I read somewhere that the armor and such is going to be a ton more expansive in XIV. I hope this holds true because I never wanted to wear my blood splattered gear when not fighting.

I also really liked having holiday gear. The hard part was having space for all the clothes I wanted to keep.

The option to color your gear (as someone above me has mentioned) would be a godsend for me, because let's face it, Bards go through some of the ugliest gear in Vana'diel. I really dont want to see XIV go through that again :x Call it narcissistic, but i want my future Lalafell to look good in his gear :3

As for running around gear, i'm hoping beastmen hats come back, because my in town gear consists of a qiqirn hood, and a hume gilet. Nothing says "lawl" like people checking your gear when you show up to camp at PUP73 in that ensemble (ofcourse i change to my battle gear when the fighting starts, but still)

Though what of an option to "Layer" over your gear? (with some marker ofcourse, so if you show up in "omgwtfbbqawesome armor" but your real gear is crap, there's a way people can know it's just for looks) Ofcourse this is purely for my own amusement, because i highly doubt SE would do something like that, as it would cause confusion among the people you group with, and force them to actually check you.

On that note, SE. please.please.PLEASE. have a bigger variety of gear / looks of gear. 1-40 on a mage class and you're wearing the same **** robe, just slight variation in color. I would love to see some gear like the Manteel in looks for lower levels, or just noticable differences than a robe going from Beige to Taupe. (Maybe let you customize your gears look a little bit O.o like a ripped sleeve, or a zipper on the robe.)

This is all out there, but ofcourse it's speculation, and what we the players are hoping for :3

Some of the miquote gear from the latest update looks a bit inappropriate (i.e. silver catsuit) for exploring / battling. Maybe your on to something.
