I feel like I really can't follow this game as much as I'd like to.
Square Enix seems so secretive about the game barely releasing any information at all.

The only information that has been satisfying lately was PookyPoo's video. And he was banned.
Message for SE: "Doing it wrong."

I understand theres things that they want to keep unrevealed, but lack of information about this game is getting me less and less excited. Just something to read/watch for me to be like "Wow! I really want to play that!"

For lack of better phrasing, please give us SOMETHING.

:D

Another minor nitpick before I comment on the OP, but SE has said next to nothing about when they want to release the game. All they've said is 2010, and the most reasonable estimates at this time are pointing towards late Q3/early Q4. Beta is supposed to run longer than it did for FFXI, which was ~4 months. Beta hasn't started yet. That puts us to August/September if they only run the beta for 4 months. I hate to see people getting their hopes up over nothing, especially when that usually leads to late summer whine threads about why SE lied.

More to the point, there's tons of information circulating around...way more than has been "officially" released. A more comprehensive list of classes has been around for some time now, including the other DoH classes, a fairly substantial amount of information on the basic combat system (ie. Battle Regimens) etc. You just have to find it. The worst part about it is that there's still a bit of a grey around around what is or isn't okay to link.

SE is probably saving up info until E3 hits. I predict that's when they'll officially release lots of preview info about the game to generate interest amongst as many people as possible. By then the game may only be 3 months away from release, allowing time for gaming publications and online sites to post their FFXIV previews.

Based on the amount of information already coming out of the alpha, once the closed beta starts I would imagine that it won't be more than 2 weeks before we know about as much as we could hope to know about the content included with the test versions.

I'm inclined to say I have seen and read as much as any alpha tester, but simply didn't control the character on the screen. Whatever was missing from the leaks was since printed in Famitsu. Unless they open up more of the game to testers, I don't see what more can be gained. That makes me think we won't get new information until Square Enix is prepared to start the next phase of testing. My guess is another alpha email will go out in the start of May and then closed beta to coincide with E3. I'm sure they will publicize a few more details, but if there are leaks with each phase, it really doesn't leave much to the imagination.

I don't expect to see an extension of the alpha in terms of invites. All they were wanting to do with the alpha was test the bare minimum functionality of the game in preparation for the closed beta. I would expect to see closed beta invites going out within the next few weeks with probablly no more than a month or so of open beta before retail launch.
