Seems the 2010 Release date was Re-Confrimed ( http://twitter.com/shovelface88 ) on the 24th of April by none other than Yoichi Wada, the President and CEO of Square Enix.

This should put those minds at ease that were praying for no delay... at least for a while...

http://ff14wiki.info/?FF_14_NEWS#vee99208

It's in Japanese, he goes on to say that it will in fact be calendar year 2010, not fiscal year, which means we have AT MOST, around 8 months.

also at that wiki, a portion google transaltes to: "The official website and so far the "2010 plan" was a double-barreled writing and, in this statement be said to be confirmed officially by the end of the service starts in December."

December!? :D

I've been thinking all along that they would get it out sometime around Thanksgiving or early December here in the states. They probably don't want to miss out on the potential holiday sales.

That's great news. I don't think I've ever obsessed this much over a game pre-release before. The wait is killing me lol.

Although I could wait longer if it meant SE fixing more bugs before launch. I can't stand it when companies releases buggy games just to meet a schedule.

I'm doubting that we will have to worry about them "releasing too early with insufficient content", since they've been working on XIV since at least 2005.

They've gotta have plenty of juicies for us!

But now we have to wait 8 months ;_;

/hibernate ;)

This gives those posting on tech threads an actual timeline to build a machine. I would predict that the best time to build a PC to take advantage of new technology and cheaper prices would be either May/June when retailers begin to switch models, or shortly after all the Back-2-School specials end. Maybe with a release date, they'll finally lift the NDA so we can talk about stuff we've seen, but can't comment about at this point.

Ahh this made me so excited, though I really wish that it would be released this summer, I wanted it to come out before classes start next year.

Either way, I can not WAIT until the NDA is released like someone else said, so we can all learn so much more.

I am one of those people who loves surprises but hates knowing about them in advance, like when someone says "I have a surprise for you, but you have to wait until the end of the month to find out what it is!" I'm glad to see another confirmation of the 2010 release because this means less wondering on our parts. I'm glad SE is doing their best to get this game finished on time and do it well. I can't wait to see what they come out with.

Nice find OP , I'm just still kinda a skeptic until I see them update it on the site and such. You would think they would make a big deal about the "release date" of the game by updating the official website , sending out emails, and maybe a sweepstakes promotion on S.E. members for example.

They haven't updated anything because this isn't really new information. Not to mention this isn't an exact release date, just a commitment to a release date within the year. I'm sure they will make a bigger deal out of it when we have an actual day of release.

This is certainly a good thing, still everything is subjective. Unforeseen setbacks, bugs and whatever would make me a sad panda.

I was under the impression that SE was going to wait till E3 to make any type of "big deal"
At least as big of a deal as you can make for saying " What we told you already.... still stands."

I like the idea of a sweepstakes. 1000 people get a free year? Sounds good to me. Where do I sign?

Another thing that is interesting, is that today Blizzard just announced a huge change to Cataclysm raiding (you know how Blizzard LOVES to release Xpacs w/i a week or two of a new MMO's release). The interesting thing is, that this change has already caused a large backlash among existing raiders, so the ball is currently in Square's court to capitalize on this. I'd like to see them cater to the people that Blizzard is ignoring, and a legitimate release window with some added details on the new system (that we can discuss without breaking NDA) would be a good way to do this.

I'd love to see FFXIV take the throne as the new #1 MMORPG, but I wonder what the cost would have to be. I mean, WoW is known for being too simple. I don't know if that is true or not because I've never played. But I do know that I DO NOT want XIV to suffer from the same stigma. If the cost is that it can't over take WoW, but is more successful than FFXI then I'm sure it'll be a contender for a long time to come.

This would be very cool. Let's not kid ourselves, however. WoW is releasing a new xpac. It looks pretty cool already. SE would have to entice somewhere between 10-15 million players to join (can't remember how many WoW has, but I know it's over 10) and steal a significant chunk of WoW's players as well.

As much as I'd love for this to happen (I know that my WoW account is getting nuked the day FFXIV comes out), it's just not realistic to hope for this kind of success at this time.

I'm still gonna guess we'll see the game release in November. Maybe even earlier so it can beat some of the other huge titles coming out this year to the shelf.

Sigh, did I not get across what I meant? I really can't stand when I read what I've posted and it sounds fine to me, because I type the way I speak. But comes across without the intended inflection. Allow me to try again.
I've never played WoW, therefore I do not know if the things said about it, both positive and negative, are true. That being said, I personally would not pass judgment on it. I have on the other hand heard (A lot) of people say that WoW has catered to a simpler play style, and the people who have said it mostly do not seem to enjoy that fact. IF that's the case (and again, let me insert that since I'm not a WoW player I do not know for a fact if it is or isn't) I would not want to see FFXIV also cater to that brand of play style to boost it's numbers.

I'm still hoping Beta starts mid summer, didn't they say they were going to make a longer beta than they did for FFXI?

They did, which was 4 months for XI. I'm just banking on a December release. That way, if they announce it sooner, it'll seem like less of a wait lol.

Don't rule late May or June out. I think that all of the authorized leaks is a sign that alpha is going smooth, perhaps smoother than expected.

A boy can dream, can't he?

Not really. The problems have more to do with the servers rather than the game itself though, so that's a good sign. The game is pretty polished as is. Once they get the servers ready, it should be smooth sailing.

So why comment and say something you have literally and absolutely NO idea about?

Not to sound rude but just because someone else or a lot of people say one thing doesn't mean it is true. I love when people generalize.

Everyone thought Waterworld was a terrible movie but i liked it... just because it was bad.

And actually if FFXIV does anything they will cater exactly to the WoW crowd. ***** the FFXI diehards they can make more money off a friendly game that tons of kids and adults can play.

P.S. I am not defending WoW in any respect i hate it too but i understand where it's coming from and respect it for that. Oh and i have played it for a fair bit. Probably a year or two worth of play total with lots of lich king endgame content

Back on topic. I can almost bet it will be, before christmas... way too many holiday sales they would miss if they didn't have it out. People that managed to hold out through FFXI or are looking for a new game would love to get it for Christmas... i would :) Although i will just buy it myself, much easier.

i would think they would release right before or right after Cataclysmic (wow expansion) just cause hype will be around the MMO world about that time
