I just bought this game the other day and i have to say it looks a lot like ffxiv. the armory system looks like ffxiv. you level up your char and weapons. you can switch your weapons on the fly as well. its an offline game but they do have a guild leave system in it that you can have you +3 people online join you. You can also creat your own town with what ever shops you want and you can visit other peoples towns/shops they make. all the gear/items you get online you can take back into single player mode. Its a really fun game.

I was just pointing out the simularities with this game and what ffxiv is doing. It seams to be a game that has the closest design to ffxiv. It's a fun game you guys should try it.

Wow, FullMetal, looks like you got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.

I actually find the similarities kind of interesting. What system is it for?

I approve of this "if you like this then you might like that"-message, considering it will still be some time before FFXIV comes out and some people are looking for something to do in the meantime.

You forgot to mention the part that the character you create has virtually no part in the main storyline, other than being in all the cutscenes.

I've heard from other people that the system is very similar as well, and so far the game seems well-received. I don't see a problem with discussing it here.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

I have it for the PS3. The character you make is not the main in the story but you can play any character you want.

I haven't played the game, but from what I've seen and read, the most notable similarity is that both games rely on "western fantasy" style aesthetics (minus, of course, the giant knight-mech thing that is apparently in the game). The clothes, weapons, and armor seem very medieval Europe/Tokienesque.

It was a game that was on my radar back when it was announced (it was one of the very first games shown for the ps3), but it seems like it suffered from a rough development path, because it was massively delayed. I didn't like what I saw of it from its reviews, so I won't be bothering with it. But I could definitely see it helping pass the time 'till FFXIV.

Lol i love how Fullmetalboshi got sub-defaulted in every post he made...loosen up a bit dude, its ok. TC I've heard of the game and seen a couple videos but i may actually give it a try now, thanks for the heads up on the similarities. I do not, however, like building my own towns...i hated this part of Dark Cloud (and then eventually just hated Dark Cloud) but i'm reasonable, i can overlook it if the rest of the game is enjoyable.

Lol everyday I've been to Penn Station and I always pass this TV display with it on. The first time I stood there for five min until they said what the game was. I thought it was a Final Fantasy game for the Wii or Xbox. Game looked very intriguing I'm def going to pick it up now.

White Knight Chronicles was really quite good when it was released (massive amounts of people online) and it felt a lot like a crossbreed between FFXI and the dot.hack games. The Georama option was quite fun (made you build a town of your own that you could gradually teak and upgrade).

I think what really surprised people was how extensive the armour and weaponry options were for a console game... requires a crapload of guild-points but quite worth it if you had the time and patience.

This is my future FFXIV Character and this is his theme...at least that's the tentative plan. Yep. (Concept Art of Rasler by the legendary Akihiko Yoshida) I asked for the Qiqirn to be added in FFXIV since October 2009 and we now have them! Yessss!

Despite what the reviews may make you think, this game is enjoyable. The reviewers didn't even touch the online portion of it, which is the bulk of the game.

Single player is a bit... lacking though.

Anyone who enjoyed FFXI will more than likely love the online. It's got an MMO / FFXII feel to it, without the monthly fee. There's no persistent world, but players gather in hub towns and group up from there.

Once I saw alpha game-play for FFXIV I was instantly reminded of this game. Just a warning, it can be a bit on the grindy side though.

Dark Cloud was awesome! I loved watching the town grow and the golf thing was pretty fun too.

Also,

Fullmetalboshi: FAIL

Aurelius: Keep fracking that chicken.

Dark Cloud 2 was awesome. The first was good, but needed some evolution. The .hack games had promise, and I am a little disappointed they never resulted in an MMO.
