Ability to Dye ClothingFollow

Has anyone else seen anything regarding this? I remember seeing/reading somewhere this was possible.

I remember one of the things I wished they had added to FFXI was the ability to change the color of armors/clothes. The first MMO I played was Ultima Online, which had a very simple version of this, but still very enjoyable. It also allowed more individuality with the same sets of armor and clothes.

Let me know what you think, or if you might have seen the same picture I have seen from FFXIV.

*note* You can also see a shop in the "Life in Eorzea #1" http://www.youtube.com/user/FINALFANTASYXIV#p/u/1/n-vjy97RuoA that shows dyed clothes on a rack above the shop - perhaps? ;)

I read an article where they were speculating it was possible because three of the same armor shown in an FFXIV image had three different colored breast plates.

It'd be a neat feature to have, but I can't picture Square adding anything like that except in pre-determined colors. I imagine it'd break their aesthetic to see a ton of people running around in their Amazing Technicolor Dream Armor.

I agree, it would be awful to see a bunch of neon rainbow people running by...but I would love to at least be able to change basic colors, even if just for clothing.

Confirmed in an interview about 6 months ago.
I can go hunt the link later if you want.

Including Dye makes that a possibility, not including dye practically guarantees it.

Thank you so much! How exciting. If you happen to have the link around and about that would be great. If not I shall take your good word! :)

Pretty sure there are just going to be limited reskins for each armor. i.e., about 8 different color versions for each one. Probably not unicolor changes though-- different sleeves and torso for example. Seems unlikely that it will be very customizable.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

They had a feature like this in Guild Wars, it was pretty simple though. I kind of preferred mismatched gear, it always created variety.

Oh right, it's on the official site.
Oh well, here's the link as promised anyway:

Crafters will have other unique abilities, such as being able to add their own colors or patterns to the equipment they make.

I'll just never understand how people can make/play a game that revolves around collecting magical clothing and not think twice about fashion :p

As long as it is limited (read: NO POWERRANGERS) this is something that will greatly help diversify yourself. I do hope this makes it into the final product.

It's something that has been talked about for a long time and has me very excited. More so for the weapons. If it's available, I'm going to need a green blade when I get into using the gladiator.

I was also under the impression that tanners were not the only one's who could add things to gear, but other crafters would be able to also. It's part of the reason I want to try my hand at alchemy. If I can get the green blade I mentioned before to have a chance of inflicting any status effect because of something I did to truly make it MY custom weapon I would love the new system completely!

I love that we will be able to have dyed clothing. Looks like I'm gonna have to find a Tanner and Armorsmith to fill my custom orders. Haha.

But that quote makes me curious. I wonder what sort of customization options will be available to weaponsmiths? Hmm..
