I'm not sure if there are any plans to do this, but I'd be really happy with a single gold saucer area in game where one can kill time and hang out with friends in a fun environment. You know, like a real amusement park- they could add a Gondola like in FF7, a whole bunch of minigames (ffxiv snowboarding!), and perhaps even localize chocobo racing/betting to such an area. What do you guys think? Anyone know of any plans to do this so far?

edit: might be a good place to add a Ballista type event too.

A minigame area would be a great addition to the game, but I know of no plans for one thus far.

I definitely would love to see something like a mini-game area. Maybe some kind of carnival/fair atmosphere.

Chocobo jousting!! :)

This is a great idea! I hope SE uses it!

I wouldn't mind a mingame area but let's leave the "Gold Saucer" in FFVII where it belongs. Sorry was never a fan of VII.

A mini game, gold saucer type area is an insanely popular idea for FFXIV...therefore SE will not do it. Sorry.

I'd prefer spreading it around with non-centralized minigames. FF VIII and IX went in the right direction with their card games - that model applies really well to an MMO, where you might wish you had a way to kill time in a thousand different places and situations.

But of course I'd be happy to find out they're adding any kind of minigame at all. The one ray of hope is that XIV's engine seems pretty capable of doing complex 2D overlays, or maybe even zoomed-in game tables similar to Fable. This kind of thing would have been impossible in XI, which only supported one active menu window at a time and couldn't even display images in most of them.

Well the minigames kind of have to fit with the time. People runing around with bows and arrows then the next minute playing a snowboarding game seems out of place and shoehorned in. I suppose cards and puzzle games would make up a great deal of the minigames that would "make sense".

XIV definitely needs a good helping of social content. XI was really about all no work and no play.

Maybe a dice game would work, perhaps even collectable dice hehe.

This would me me sooooooooooooo happy <3 I think we need to see a set place for pvp in this game. It wouldn't mean implementing pvp throughout the pve aspects, just enough for some friendly competition.

I agree! A carnival/fair type of area would be really great! It would offer another way you could play and socialize with people (other than just fighting mobs).

How about.. a Traveling carnival, one week its over ---> the next week its over <---. It keeps things from always being in the same central place. If im not mistaken I think wow did this with its fair, one month it was by the alliance, the next it was by the horde, though anyone could visit at either place. I myself would like to see it in different spots so the luster of the exact same thing would not ware off right away.

(Im sure this is just wishful thinking though :P)

I would be happy if they even just added the old Tetra Master inside FFXIV somewhere! Especially considering that's already been made, it wouldn't be too difficult to make it a menu option or something, right?

I'm not a fan of minigames. I say just bring back /random, that brought hours and hours of entertainment.

I loved the Golden Saucer, and I think the addition of this type of area would be very exciting...

...for just a while.

The idea of a Golden Saucer-type area is for you to kill time and have fun, but I'm not so sure it will work in an MMO. Oh, I have no doubt it will be popular for the first couple of months, but in the long run it will probably end up being empty.

You must remember that in an MMO, competition is extremely high. If people have free time, they will likely be farming or crafting, lest they be "left behind" and unable to compete in the economy. The GS worked well in FF7 because it was a single player game. You didn't have to compete with anyone else.

Additionally, you only spent ~50 hours or so playing FF7, while you will likely be playing FF14 for YEARS. An entertainment area would be fun for the first couple of months. After that, I probably wouldn't bother with it. I'd rather use my spare time to farm, craft, or do something else to "stay ahead of the game."

Again, I loved the GS. But it's just not practical in an MMO.
