Ooh. I was mostly right with my version (shameless plug). I'll do a new version of the map with translations and stuff using this one...it looks nice and easy to read. This gives me a lot to work with.

Thanks Elmer! :D

Maybe a little time spent looking over this map will let me choose a better starting city. Windy was so cut off from everything in FFXI. I'm not gonna make that mistake again (That's right Limsa Lominsa, I'm looking right at you!) this time I'll pick a place that can quickly and easily get to another city or central point.

Sharlayan

H's look like k's, S's look like h's, N's looks like u's, and A's look like a scrunched together 16.
Just to be, you know, completely confusing.

I can see the 4 big nations in the bottom left hand corner. Though what are the other emblems I wonder? Smaller cities? I wonder if you can join them? I wonder if the Big Dragon to the North West of "Ishgard" signifies?

I believe that translates into Ishgard. I took the letters from Limsa Lominsa, Uldah, Ala Mhigo, and Gridania on the map. Though I'm not sure if it's Ishgard or not cause the "K" at the end of Ul'dah doesn't have a hanging flag. But I know the "k" from Ala Mhigo looks the most like it so that's how I came to the name.

Go-go gadget magnifying glass. Though a crispy picture wouldn't be too bad either to help determine the Eorzean Alphabet.

Somebody put the alphabet together a while back and made a nice key. I've seen it, but it was so long ago I don't remember exactly where it was.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

This site is a great help with map/alphabet.

www.ffxivmaps.com (sorry just copy paste it to address bar)

scroll down for the alphabet, nothing is there that hasn't been presented yet.

You need to fix that, Gvr Adania, since it's Gravania.

I believe someone had calculated an estimated 30 minute walk from one side of Vylbrand Isle straight to the other using map grids (maybe it was Limsa Lominsa to the end of Vylbrand). Seems like a fairly large world, considering it's essentially seamless.

Very nice of you to put that together, Coglins.

But a minor correction? :)

See how the third letter in Ishgard looks like the second letter in Skarlayan?
We know Ishgard is the right translation, so that means it must be Sharlayan.

very nice looking map, I love the illuminated lettering.

it will be fun to see how much of the rest of the planet may get uncovered in the expansions.

I really like the emphasis they are putting on sea areas as well, I think we will see some exciting and fun leves dealing with water travel.

My apologies if I have offended, but after closer inspection the city below Gyr Adania is Al Mhigo, not Gravania. Gravania is one of the 6 city-states and several people have been trying to figure out where it is exactly, I had made an assumption since Gyr Adania is fairly close to the spelling Gravania. I have decided the ones without ribbons are areas equivalent to places such as La Theine Plateau, but that is my speculation at best! Once again if I have offended you I do apologize and had no intentions of doing so.

I must also apologize now, as I posted that after a 12 hr night shift at the plant intending to be funny, not realizing how much of a smart *** it made me come of as. No harm no foul my friend. I know you meant well, and were trying to be helpfull.

Just a side note, isn't Eorzea only a "part" of the FF XIV world ?

Or did they mean with that there can be some stuff "attached" to it like Aht Urgan can be with the two other continents.
