Once FFXIV release will PS3 and PC players be on the same servers or will there be different servers for each platform?

Sage Sundi Interview wrote:
For the final question, the interviewer hints that a number of players may be looking for language-specific servers and looks for Sundi's reaction to such a request. However, Sundi believes that seeing as Final Fantasy XI made it this far without segregated servers, adding such a feature in Final Fantasy XIV would feel like a step backwards. They would rather work at making mixed servers a success instead of abandoning them altogether.

Pretty safe to say they'll be same server again.

I enjoy playing on multi language servers. In fact, the translation system IMO is one of the most ingenious social MMO tools ever created. Its fun, its easy, its to the point.

It also causes culture clashes which i like to avoid when possible.

I can't see any practical reason for SE to segregate the servers.

I totally agree on this point. During my time in FFXI I wound up being really good friends with folks from Australia, Germany, and Sweden.

You forgot to mention that in brings out the immaturity in everyone. I still chuckle whenever I think of (Galka) (Pass) (Stone) (Crimson Howl)!

the only issue I have with combined servers would be the translation of thing not meaning what you think. eg (reward) meaning the feed your pet option, and the physical location of the server causing an unfair advantage due to lag. other than that I really had no issues with the combined servers and found plenty of ways to communicate even with the language barrier.

if there isnt english speaking servers only, then i wont buy this game .

i hate seeing chat spammed with russian or chinese or what ever language , in my country its considered rude to talk a diffrent language in front of some1 who doesnt speak it. i live in uk if anyone wanted to know.

i think eu servers should be mixed but there should be english speaking servers and speaking a diffrent language should be left to talking to friends or in guild chat.

I don't think anyone would complain if you didn't buy this game with that kind of attitude. This sounds like a "have your cake and eat it too" request. You can't expect to have mixed servers and then tell people they are "engrish speaking onry so leave your native tongue at the door" like some sort of idioma-elitist. It's only considered rude because you guys assume they're talking **** about you (which they probably are) and if your ignorance bothers you so much go learn some new languages.

As someone who can speak more than one language and loves different cultures, I can't wait to play on mixed servers. Having a good amount of people on at all times of day just shouldn't be sacrificed for those few who can't play nice with the rest of the world.

As someone who often plays at very odd hours, I definitely agree. Language barriers can be tough, but there are always folks willing to fumble through the auto-translator enough to party. I'm for it.

I play at odd hours, too. Personally, I'd rather have a slight communication issue than a dead server. Aside for the practicality of it, I've made some very good friends for people in other countries.

I read it too, but the thread just drifted. A lot of us are FFXI people, so cross platform was just assumed.

Yeah it really wasn't a thought to me. I just figured that all the servers would be cross platform.

This. I'd rather "deal" with an auto-translator than solo when I don't want to.

Check me off for wanting the servers to be exactly like XI. Multiple servers, worldwide population on each one. I think this has been pretty much confirmed though, so I'm good.

Bismarck server statistics:
Server population 8am EDT - 3700
Server population 8pm EDT - 1700

These numbers have been pretty consistent recently. They can't effectively merge servers (the server seemed pretty active with about 2500-3000) since the load is so skewed. I'm sure the recent realm mergers have provided more info for SE to consider when making this decision. From what I understand, the decision to have mixed-region servers was a financial one (loads are balanced due to time zone difference so fewer servers are needed).

IMO there should be a choice as to which type of server you would like: region specific or international (and there is nothing to suggest that this isn't a possibility).

Some things to consider:
1) Japanese players will likely choose a Japanese specific server if given the choice. I would venture a guess that other regions would do the same (apart from FFXI/SE/Japanese 'enthusiasts'). That would leave international servers relatively empty.
2) Usually the only activity you can effectively do in a mixed-language party is grind XP. If FF14 is to have a more solo oriented leveling system (if it doesn't the game will fall on its face outside of Japan), then interaction between different language speakers will be close to nil.

It all depends on what resources SE is willing/able to devote to the game servers. Mixed servers allow easier/cheaper load balance but also introduce the problem of population balance.

I predict, also, that if we don't get servers officially marked English/Japanese/EU, the player base will make do it for them through reputation. Like Server A is Japanese dominated, B is English, and C has a hodge-podge of EU languages.

I predict we'll see some culture clashing during beta. (English)(No thanks) returns.
