Don't shoot the messenger, but there are rumors of emails going out about 2am this morning to lucky individuals. Now, keep in mind you cannot post any information about this email due to NDA or if you were selected or not. I just wanted to give a heads up that it has started again.

Also, {insert sad face here}

Edit: Rumors of a second wave of invites sent out the morning of June 2nd at 1-3 AM PST. Also, updated title to reflect this second wave of invites.

Edit 2: It seems more invites were sent out the morning of June 9th as well.

Just a reminder, when the first wave of alpha invites went out they were actually spread out over several days. I had been wondering about why they'd label this next round of testing as alpha 2 until I read about how they had seen a substantial decrease in the number of players signing in to participate in the alpha. It sounds like this next wave is not just about expanding the number of people testing but also to replace those that got their fill of the sneak peak and decided they had better things to do with their time.

Which is probably for the better. I want people testing the game. Help SE make a better gaming experience for yourself and everyone else who is going to spend the next few years of their lives playing this game. I can completely understand wanting to see what's coming before everyone else. But that should be a bonus, not the main reason for you being an alpha or beta tester.

I could also imagine a lot of people being fed up with the laggy servers, slow attack times, and other minor things...I would say that some of those that stopped will actually rejoin the test once things get a little further along.

A part of me would actually rather see them have their alpha accounts terminated. Don't log in for <x> consequitive tests? Your spot goes to someone else. If SE is trying to sort out issues with lag, they need as many people as possible signing in so they can gauge the impact of their changes under the aniticipated load. If people are deciding that it's no fun testing under such laggy conditions, they're not helping by deciding to skip tests.

I agree the purpose of the Alpha's/Beta's is to fix problems that occur or might not have been noticed by the developers..So if a tester is not taking part in the test why would they be allowed to keep their spot. They should be removed and then a new invite given to someone who will play , find and report bugs so we may all enjoy the game at release.

I think a lot of people don't/didn't realize what it means to be an Alpha/beta tester tbh. A large portion probably just wanted a preview, and quite frankly some probably thought they could actually play it like a regular released mmo-. I think mostly those are the people who are now leaving, and like you guys said hopefully SE will account for that by inviting more new players and maybe even terminating inactive accounts.

Personally I didn't even apply and I won't be. I don't want to ruin those first few weeks for myself. There is just something so satisfying and exciting with running around with RL friends exploring and learning all the basics. Those first few weeks are something special and that is something I will somewhat lose if I enter alpha/beta, and for what, a sneak peak? No thanks. I understand if some people want to participate and improve the game, and that is great, personally I know there are other people out there that want it more than I do, and will do a better job, so I will wait for release.

Hopefully people here who applied gets their invite soon, good luck!

Precisely this. I hope whatever criteria they used for Alpha 2 access, it was better at collecting real testers than A: They've been playing XI forever or B: Friend of a website that loves SE.

And that has.. what to do with anything?

They are planning to invite 50 000 people for Alpha 2. You seriously think they'll invite them all at once and not in a, lets say weekly fashion? I can tell you that's not going to happen.

Alpha 2 is starting this week.. and ends when the limit of 50 000 testers has been reached.

I can confirm this as well. I have been hearing rumors of a second wave of invites were sent out this morning around 1-3 AM PST. Sadly, this is second hand info.

This shows an indication that SE is gradually adding worlds instead of opening the floodgates and sending out a mass invite for Alpha 2 (as opposed to Alpha 1).

Again, remember this. If you get an email, the first rule of Alpha testing is that you do not talk about Alpha testing!

Edit: Updated title and first post with this new info.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

People not loggin in for the tests is not a problem for SE, as they can just add more betatesters/players at will.

They can, but they've already said that the lag issues early in the testing were due largely in part to more people logging on than they anticipated. They can only accommodate so many people and they appear to have invited more than they could handle fully expecting some to not log in, but then it went the other way and all of a sudden they're appealling to testers to not give up on the testing process. If you've got a week worth of testing scheduled and there are too many no-show testers for that week, they can't accomplish as much in that time as they had hoped, especially when the testing is primarily intended to address server issues. That pushes back the testing schedule. SE is now beginning to talk about the beta as though it's looming around the corner, but if their goal really is to get about 50,000 alpha testers on stable servers before they launch the beta, they're still weeks away. If it takes another month to get the beta underway, the "short" alpha test has all of a sudden turned into something 3/4 the length of the XI beta.

What do you mean it was from your original submission out of 6? Does it tell you which beta application it was from? Or do you mean you made 6 different accounts?

even though i look at the little mail count icon at the top right corner of my screen every hour, i'm a little glad i haven't received an invite. i don't have the PC to run the game smoothly, let alone an unoptimized alpha; the plan was to upgrade through the summer. however, i am definitely bent on hunting down those bugs, .. in the end, both receiving an alpha invite and not receiving one, will be a bittersweet affair.

I applied for the beta, but on reflection I think I'd actually turn them down if I was offered a place.

I want the full game, not a half game which I have to report bugs for.

I can wait. I know it'll be worth it.

Please remember that the NDA is still in full force for this game, and given certain circumstances we are taking that NDA requirement very seriously. If you think it might break the NDA, please don't post it, or check with Pikko or the other FFXIV content managers before you do so they can clear it.

Thank you,
