You cannot buy items here or anywhere else. doing so will likely get you banned from the game.

The game isn't free to play. It will cost about $15 a month. I'm not sure if there will be game cards or not.

Oh...I didn't realize we were playing the, "take the cross forum spammer seriously" game. That being the case, there WILL be an SE store where you can buy Crysta Currency and use it for game related shenanigans.

This is a discussion forum for FFXIV which hasn't been released yet. Allakhazam doesn't host any games itself nor can you buy things from here with points. FFXIV will probably cost money.

Crysta Currency

Aww crap! Is this confirmed? I really didn't want to see micro-transactions mucking up FFXIV.

Here's a link to the Zam forum discussing Crysta Currency:

Edit: Also includes the initial 'story' about what it's for, etc.

I'm all for buying the stuff to make getting your subscription easier, but I'm definitely not a fan of needing to spend any real money (apart from subscription) for digital goods.

Ahh i had forgotten all about Crysta Currency, thanks for the link!

After reading through it, one of the parts that stuck out to me was this:
"It also opens up the possibility for a lot more control on Square Enix's part. If certain aspects of Final Fantasy XIV were prone to abuse by RMT, they could become available through Crysta, swiftly invalidating the efforts of gil-farmers. However, it's a tricky issue since while some will surely welcome the elimination of RMT players, others will oppose the idea of paying real money for in-game currency or items."

Now pardon my ignorance but I'm not totally understanding this. It makes me wonder why kind of exploitation can be taken by RMT that would be solved through SE using Crysta. Though of course the game is not out yet so its also possible it wont be needed at all, but I doubt that at any point SE would use Crysta for high level or rare equipment.

*quick edit* Selling stuff you don't need at all like a Moogle cap though, now I would be all over that.

I'm assuming that they're using the term RMT to refer to gil-farmers there, which caused some confusion.

Truth be told, I've never understood why RMT would help curb gil-farmers either. Nor do I see much difference between putting the money in SE's coffers and putting in the hands of a gil-farmer. Both harm a game's integrity, IMO.

I think that reference to discouraging RMT through micro transactions was a bit of naive speculation on the part of th person who wrote the article. In order for a game developer to force out RMT by undercutting them, they'd have to devalue their own game.

Well I can see how it could curtail currency farming. Farmers can't compete against an MMO company that can issue currency at no cost.

But the problem was never the farmers, but always in the ability to use real cash to exchange for an advantage in game. Whether it's against the EULA or not never mattered.
