Examiner.com is reporting that the latest Famitsu issue features a preview of E3, complete with questions of several publishers about their plans. And what of Square Enix? According to Examiner.com, Square Enix will not be holding a press conference (boo), but does have a surprise in store (yay). E3 runs from June 15-17 – so not much longer to wait for the surprise to be revealed. Here’s hoping that it’s FFXIV related.
http://www.eorzeapedia.com/

SO whats every1 hope the surprise is? I for one would love a release date.

Versus XIII release date or KH3 announcement.

A girl can dream, right?

ETA: Just read that Shinji Hashimoto (producer for KH series and Vs. XIII) posted that Nomura would be attending E3 this year on Twitter. Curiouser and curiouser.

I, for one, think that the surprise might be Chrono Break.

Here are several reasons why I think it may happen and why you may really need a new pair of pants:

- Chrono Trigger being released 2 years ago with more story content added for it
- Last year being Chrono Cross' Japanese 10 year anniversary (this year is the western 10 year anniversary)
- Mitsuda is almost done with his arranged composition for Chrono Cross, which he anticipates will be released this year
- FFXI doesn't seem to be getting a whole lot of new story content (Abyssea doesn't seem to have much), thus, the team members from the Chrono team can get together again
- The Chrono Break trademark doesn't expire til sometime in 2012, I believe

Keep in mind that this is just speculation, so don't think too much of it.

Ok...some more reason why and why not a Chrono Trigger sequel might or might not be made.

So, first off, Square Enix Senior Vice President Shinji Hashimoto said that there is a good chance you wont see a Sequel since the DS remake of Chrono Trigger didn't sell nearly as well as they had would have liked:

http://www.destructoid.com/want-a-chrono-trigger-sequel-buy-more-remakes--135393.phtml

He said this in 2009...But Chrono Trigger DS was one of the top selling games in japan in 2008...well it was number 24 but that IS pretty good:

http://kotaku.com/5121227/japans-best-selling-games-of-2008-are

makes me wonder how well they wanted it to sell...hmmm. Also SE had that one fan made sequel a year ago canceled...which can be seen in a speculative way they plan on making there own new game.

Honestly, I hope its Chrono Break too, I LOVED Trigger and Cross.

At this point I'd be less surprised if they announced a new Parasite Eve game. I think they're paralyzed with fear of angering rabid CT fans like they did with CC.

I loved Chrono Trigger! It was my first RPG and opened my eyes to a whole new world of gaming that I had never touched until that point. I really liked Chrono Cross also, it had a connection to the original and was a really fun game in itself. But I feel that it lacked something I just couldn't place my finger on it. I'd love it if Chrono Break was announced and it was a true sequel to Chrono Trigger.
Then again, maybe I'm speaking from my heart and not my head and you should leave the original alone.
Just cause Titanic made a zillion gil doesn't mean there has to be a sequel...

All that said, Chrono Break would be awesome either way, but I'd still really like some solid release date info on FXIV.

Maybe that cell phone game will be announced for the DS. What was it called? FFVII Before Crisis, right?

The 3rd Birthday (Parasite Eve 3) has already been announced for PSP. Here is a list of teh probable games that will be announced or have information on-

Final Fantasy XIV
Final Fantasy XIII- Versus/Agito
Final Fantasy: Warriors of Light
The 3rd Birthday
Lufia DS (Based on Lufia 2)

Don't expect a Chrono 3, Vagrant Story 2, or any such madness.

Of course, if I'm wrong, I'll need new pants as well.

I hope the surprise is some details on linkshells/clans/groups! I want to know what they'll be called already and how much power a member can have. Like maybe have sort of a second in command this time around so if the leader is gone then they can run the LS while he/she is absent.

I remember when that announcement was made that they would have to sell more units to do a remake/sequel to Chrono Trigger. It was pretty universally ridiculed, because not only did the DS version actually sell very well, it sold very well in SPITE of it being almost the exact same **** game that many people already purchased at least two copies of-- one for the SNES and one for the PS1. It begs the question of what more do they want. Start getting, "Sequel/Remake please!" tattooed to our foreheads?

Also, I would **** myself for Before Crisis to finally get a US release. I mean come on. You can't just not release a FF7 game.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

Well, one of the surprises for E3 seem to be this 'Nerkas' game:

A 3rd person shooter? huh...I did not see that coming.

The team that made Xenogears has founded their own group called Monolith Soft. Currently, they belong to Nintendo and are making the next Xeno game called Xenoblade. Chances of Episode I or VI of Xenogears, or even a remake, are very slim.

New FFT game would be win (I mean like real FFT, enough of this childish crap), but Chrono Break would be the creme de la creme.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly sure you can pick this up on PSN for around $10. They also have FFT, Wild Arms, and some other choice PS1 titles. More reasons to invest in a PS3. :P

Quote:

following the Korean launch of Final Fantasy XIII this past week, Square Enix staff members Motomu Toriyama, Yoshinori Kitase and Shinji Hashimoto held an interview session, as reported by Gameshot and transcribed by FF-Reunion.

One of the many questions that came up was regarding a possible Final Fantasy VII remake, to which Kitase replied “We received this question in many other countries (laughs). It took us three to four years to make Final Fantasy XIII at this level of quality, and to make FFVII the same as FFXIII would take ten times as long, so it would be difficult to start at present. But with so many requests, we always keep it in mind.”

Kinda makes you think about the focus of creating modern games like XIII vs VII. I read this to mean that, due to the graphical level of XIII, depth on a level VII had takes a backseat to CGI, graphics, and special effects.
Oh, and corridors. Lots and lots and lots of long corridors with little treasure bubbles placed oh so predictably at the end of them.

More like focusing on the good parts of the franchise while leaving out the not-so-necessary features.

The franchise isn't certainly known for it's Elder Scrolls-like freedom as much as it's characters and story, after all.

Actually, overworlds and towns are exactly what the FF series is known for and accustomed to. As well as characters and story.

It makes you a little nervous that in an effort to maintain x number of hours of CGI that other great details in your actual interactions with the future FF games might get overlooked. Thanks for the link.

My requests, in no particular order

- New FFT game. Without Judges.

- A **** alpha/beta invite for FFXIV.

- Parasite Eve collection on one disk.

- Chrono Break.

- And a new Kingdom Hearts game, not because I care, but just so that I can listen to the woman squeal like a girl.

Actually, scratch that last one. Because then she wouldn't shut up about it until the day of release.

- A SSBB/MvC type game to include Square and Enix game characters on a massive scale. And Dissidia didn't count, because it was just two characters per game for main FF titles only.
