In FFXI, each race had a naming style. Tarutaru males had names which were hyphenated and rhymed (Ajido-Marujido, Hakkuru-Rinkuru, or Pore-Ohre), and Tarutaru females had names which had the same syllable repeated at the end (Kerutoto, Apururu, or Kupipi). Galka had names like Alert Gaze, Charging Chocobo, and Lame Deer.

Once you know what they are (although from the few examples I have seen, the Lalafell names at least seem to follow the same style - don't know about the others), do any of you think you will create a name in the same style? Or, do you have a name you always use and don't care about naming styles like these...?

lol. The only name I ever used which was racial, I guess, was from the random name generator in FFXI. I was elvaan and the name that popped up seemed kinda French which fit the sandoria scene.

In FFXI I just used a name that I had used for a lot of my other gaming till that point. I'm still trying to come up with a good name/surname combo that I'll be happy with for my whole FFXIV "life"

But I won't be using any of the "rules" from FFXI in my naming.

That said, I really do like the naming of the characters from FFXI and hope that something similiar is done for FFXIV. It was something extra if you paid attention.

From the little I have seen in posted videos, it looks like NPCs will have a racial naming style again. At first, I wasn't sure how I would make use of a surname, but seeing how a few players just took out the hyphen for male Lalafell and split the name, it seems kind of obvious. (and yeah, it took me this long to notice...)

I used the auto-name feature to get the name that I used in FFXI, but I do like when all the NPCs have racial names because it just flows together. Imagine the strangeness of "Hey I've talked to Gorubibi (made up name for my example) now I go talk to who?" "Oh that quest next you go talk to Steve."

Anyone see what I am trying to say? It would just seem to sound not correct if names weren't matched in my head anyway. I would rather talk to Stevantissi then to plain old steve lol!
