Yep! FFXIV will be supporting nvidia's 3d vision so for those who own them already will be glad to know the game will be fully functional in 3D. It will be made-to-play in 3D so there wont be any issues associated with the interface like for example in Aion the cursor is annoying because its in 2D which messes up the depth view when you click on enemies.

I am excited!!! And I am sorry for those who went with ATI because 3D games are immersive. I tried Left4dead 2 and Team Fortress 2 in 3D and cannot stand going back to 2D because it feels like I am in the game and every object in the game is interesting to look at.

I forgot to add it cuts your FPS almost in half so expect to lower the video settings like AA.

OMG I'm speechless - this game just went off the richter!! MUST HAVE YESTERDAYYYY

P.S: Holy Crap - I finally called something! :D

Update! FFXIVCore have just put up a photo of the official 'FFXIV Virtual Booth'.

It shows a number of user terminals which appear to have the character creation test menu loaded - as seen in the most recent clip released from SE. However, what's most interesting is that it clearly shows a guy interacting with a triple-monitor setup too! It looks as though he may actually be playing a demo (or benchmark)!

Check out the image here!

PS- I question his choice in eyewear in such a dimly lit, indoor booth, very odd looking sunglasses indeed! - FFXIV will be 3D compatible!? You heard it here first! :)

ATI already has support for 3D glasses in their drivers. Their implementation requires support from the game through DirectX or middleware from the glasses vendor for apps that don't have direct support for glasses.

I'd rather have support for super wide displays though. 5750x1200 across 3 monitors > 3D glasses that give me eyestrain after a few hours.

Adjust the resolution of menus.
The main screen resolution for "FINAL FANTASY XI" is dependent on the "Overlay Graphics Resolution" setting.
If the Overlay Graphics Resolution is set higher than the Menu Resolution, menus will be automatically resized.

I thought of it first:

Guess I'll have to pick up Nvidia's 3D kit if I ever see a beta invite...

For anyone interested this is what you need (for Nvidia anyway) link

  • Windows Vista or 7 (not sure on Linux compatibility, although Nvidia is normally pretty good about it)
  • A 3D compatible video card (8800 and up, with a few exceptions)
  • A 3D capable monitor/TV
  • The silly glasses and receiver ($200)

So assuming you have a decent video card, and you should to play the game, the average person will be out ~$450 for a new monitor and the glasses...

...but it would be cool

Yea that's what I meant by 3D monitor/TV. You need a TV/Monitor that takes 120Htz as an input, not just one that upscales to 120Htz (like mine Smiley: cry)

I'll wait until monitors or TVs support whatever technology the 3DS is using to display 3D without the glasses. Until then I think it's too much of an inconvenience to merit the cost, unless you just have gobs of disposable income.

Having support for three monitors though? That's a much more worthwhile investment ;)

Triple monitor support is actually fairly trivial. It just looks like a very wide display resolution to the game. All that's needed is the game to be able to render a viewport that wide and user adjustment of the UI so it only appears in the center of the "screen" (i.e. on the center monitor).

Basically it just has to be able to render an aspect ratio that wide and restrict the width that the UI is drawn at.

Even FFXI could support triple monitors with a few minor additions.

I was wondering if the 3D mode; is just a techincal demo of what they could do (like FF7 demo on PS3) or SE is developing it and includes it in the retail? I was under the impression SE isn't going to make the game in 3D or at least not yet.

Sorry if the question have been ask before.

SE isn't doing anything, it's Nvidia.
