yeah, that definitely looks like Titan to me. The fire creature the beast man race summoned also made me think Ifrit and the dragon at the end made me think Bahamut. It could be possible that the summoning class is in the game, but we don't know if the role of avatars/summons/ect will be the same with this game as in FFXI as of yet.

Hope so though, SMN being one of my Lv75 jobs and favorites in FFXI. (soon to be 99) I hope Carbuncle's in there in some maner too (and not a clown dog lol).

They already said that the avatars are more like Gods in FFXIV, hence that is why the beastman summoned Ifrit. I still don't think that a smn class will be in the game because of this very thing, they are gods now and not just avatars. They are hugely involved in the storyline in FFXIV, and if I remember correctly they were described as "Powerful gods that only the beastman clans could summon with some sort of new magic".

From what we know about the 12 gods, and what little we know about summons (Titan, Ifrit, etc.), it seems like they're setting up two different divine pantheons, one for the 5 races and one for the beastmen. Terrestrial (beastmen) and Celestial (Eorzean)? Kind of reminds me of XI's summons were divided in a way. I don't think we'll be able to summon them, at least at first, but maybe later on down the line. I would definitely not expect to see a summoner class though for the time being, just based on the information we have right now.

I know that we all get to pick a guardian Deity during the character creation process. I don't think we can summon them, but they must do something for us.

yeah and a penalty for switching. Cant wait until more details are released though. I would love a summoner class eventually though, was one of my favorite to play in 11.

Ifrit = STR +1
Shiva = INT +1
Titan = VIT +1
Carbuncle = CHR +5000

Called it.

Minus the Carby joke, I could see something like this happening. But with such a low stat boost, a penalty to switching gods doesn't make much sense.

Could be a bonus to specific actions, like scholar helpign with magic, weaver helping with crafting.. kinda curious myself.

None of the pantheon you can choose from are the standard FF summons though.

Nope, they're the ones in the flavor text, one for each month, 2 for each element (1 astral, 1 umbral). No apparent connection to existing FF lore.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

FFXI didn't have summoners until its first expansion pack...of course that was also when it was released outside of japan.

if you look at the trailers. the Giant mob in the water that jumps the ship is Levi
The huge fire ball is Ifrit.
You see Titan with some kind of torch.

Thats my opinion. Weather you can or cant summon them later on is anyones guess. But i think depending on starting City location who you see or fight as the Avatars is depending on that.

I see Gruda in the place thats the new windy griandia or however its spelled. It makes sence sorta

Well apparently the beastmen are able to summon entities to fight for them, but whether or not these are the traditional summons, who can say.

Personally I'd kind of like to see a summon system more like FF8. Many Final Fantasies are absent a summoner "class," in lieu of everyone being able to summon a single avatar. I think it'd be cool if we could all build affinities with an avatar and once in a while summon them for a nifty effect.
