Three months sounds about right. Content additions take time to produce. Sure, an MMO developer with the resources of SE could push out updates every month, but they'd all be unpolished sh*t. The idea is that every three months they add content that takes the "average" gamer another 2-3 months to work their way through, not keep lobbing out crap content to keep the ADHD crowd amused.
This, this, a thousand times this. Except maybe more this.
If a game NEEDS updates every three months just to keep people occupied/entertained, then the game as a whole is flawed. I'm not saying they need to update LESS frequently (3 months is fine to me) but if 3 months worth of update "bores" everyone after 2 weeks... either the players need to be less ADHD about it or the game is flawed.
A good game should -have- updates, but it shouldn't -rely- on them to keep players interested.
It's a brand new game. I don't care how long it is going to take them before "adding more" to a game that will already take plenty of time to fully experience right out of the box. For the first year or two, I only care about bug and glitch fixes, really. No reason to worry about "What new stuff they're adding" until after you've exhausted everything that the game has to offer IMO.
