Do you think SE will create an official community site for 14, with server forums and SE reps who post regularly?

Also what are your hopes for XIV for an official website.

Personally, I hope they don't have official forums, as I prefer here <3. However, I hope they have something similar to WoWs armory for sharing/viewing characters. Also it would be nice to have more feedback from the dev team, such as info about small updates that always came as a surprise in XI.

Official forums usually attract the lowest form of pond scum...while I think having one would do well to keep that kind out of these forums, ultimately it would be best for SE to not bother.

They're already talking about having something that sounds very similar to the armory. Whether or not they'll have official forums is unknown. Official forums are a double edged sword. They provide developers with a centralized location where they can keep a close eye on how the community is responding to the game, but they also tend to be the prefered place to go for people who just want to ***** and whine and I'm not sure SE can handle such a mammoth dose of NA douchebaggery.

If they created some form of an armory I'd be happy

I have mixed feelings about the Armory system. In WoW people tend to use it really fast for group play to check if your gear is decent or not. Which in theory is not that bad, but the quality standards they expect you to have is often way higher then what is actually needed for the event.

Person1: Hello!
Person2: Hello!
Person1: Person2, your gear sucks! You can come some other time when you got better gear.
Person2: But my next gear upgrade comes from this dungeon...
Person1: W/e. I'm getting someone else with better gear so the run will be faster.

Couldn't this already be done with the check system?

Though I've never been in a linkshell that's refused people in because of their gear, sometimes I wished they would - I've seen some absolute shockers with one extremely rare/awesome item, and the rest complete junk (._.)

From what I've seen, the SE website developers really suck at their job.

I'd rather have unofficial forums because I don't really have faith in SE in this regard, lol.

It did happen already with the normal check system, but not as much. Checks only happened after the party was already gathered at the dungeon and at that time the leader was usually more reluctant to drop members, because everyone wanted to start.

There's your main reason that I no longer play WoW lol. That and the whole "community" has become WAYYYYY too focused on Gearscore.

I'd like to think that gear is only 30% of a really good player. An a$$hat in uber gear is still an a$$hat after all.

They already mentioned something like the Linkshell community site being live at the start, nothing like official forums (bad idea for more reasons than good) also keep in mind SE has hundreds of games, they aren't just FFXI/FFXIV creators, so an official forum would be something in regards to SE not just this MMO, so expect a community tool like the FFXI one if anything.

As far as I'm concerned, THIS site will be the main forum for FFXI. If SE wants to create their own forum so be, but I'll be using this one.

I would really love to just have a dev blog. That way they don't have to respond to all the crazies that an official forum would attract, but we could still have some insight into what is in the works.
