Not sure if you guys were aware of this yet. It looks like Square doesn't have any plans to support the xbox as of right now.

Feel free to discuss.

Nothing new here, move along.

Edit: this is old news. I personally have nothing against Xbox 360 or its users. Old news IS old news.

Just thought I'd voice my absolute detestation of that meme. Its redundancy knows no bounds. I hate it with a deep and loathing passion.

As far as I know, though, this is new news. I was under the impression they had always been working on a deal with microsoft to get FFXIV to xbox.

I'm too lazy to look it up but I always thought the line was something more like, "We are currently working with Microsoft to bring FFXIV to the xbox." I could be wrong...maybe that's just what I gathered from everything they've said. To me the statement you quoted is more like "Not only are we not working on it but it's not even on our list of things to do".

Perhaps that's just me.

Redundant, overused meme is redundant and overused.

Sorry, had to. :)

To the best of my knowledge, the big point of contention was:

SE: We don't want our players to have to pay you for XBL gold in addition to our membership fee.
M$: But we want them to, because it makes us more money that way.

The argument has been made that "Well, most 360 owners have a gold subscription, so what's the big deal?" or "It's not like it costs that much to get". I don't, but I'm an exception. And even still, if the game were theoretically 360 only and I -had- to pay for XBL gold just for one game (Since I don't play anything multiplayer online on 360; local multiplayer only), I personally wouldn't.

M$ refuses to budge on demanding that XIV players should have to pay for XBL gold and SE refuses to budge on the fact that they shouldn't. And until one of them changes their mind, you'll never see XIV on 360.

Which is interesting, because you don't need a Gold membership to play XI on the 360...

::shrug:: I guess MS will get over it again, or they'll lose out.

Yeah, my guess is MS saw that and thought "We should/could be making money off of this."

I've pointed this out in another thread and don't want to derail this thread, but technically speaking, the 360 is currently older than the PS2 was at the time FFXI was released for it in Japan.

Probably because the hand full of people playing FFXI on the 360 aren't worth the development costs of porting XIV..

I do wonder, statistically, what the breakdown is, percentage-wise of:

NA PC/NA PS2/NA 360
JP PC/JP PS2/JP 360
EU PC/EU PS2/EU 360

There are some of these I expect to be larger than others (in particular I expect that JP 360 would be pretty small) but I'm curious as to what the actual numbers are on "how many people primarily use which system" for FFXI.

I play FFXI on the 360 and you actually do NOT need a gold membership to play this. I do not have a gold membership because I see no point in paying for it if FFXI is the only game I play on my xbox online, and it is not required. I am sad that they aren't bringing FFXIV to the xbox as the reason I got FFXI for xbox is because I run mac OSX. Guess ill have to set up that dual boot after all. >.>

Apparently the reason they aren't supporting 360 is because Microsoft wants them to require a Gold Subscription, and SE doesn't want to require both subscriptions to play. Makes sense I guess, since I imagine MS will lose money by letting people play it without a Gold subscription, and SE could lose money if they do the development work and set up support but don't get the subscriptions to compensate.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.
