Some new monsters and some pics of character creation. Google translate, as always, does a mediocre job of getting the ideas across but the pictures are nice to look at regardless.

Looks really nice. I'm not surprised to see some FFXI mobs returning (Apkallu, Gobbue) and I'm liking that the crabs look like the crabs I'm used to seeing/eating as opposed to FFXI's crabs. Also liking the art of the new mobs.

My only complaint, and this is something I already knew about when they showed the creation video, is still that we have a ton of facial options (eyes, nose, etc) but limited hair style options, when hair style/color is arguably the most noticeable thing about a character (after race and gear).

Still, looking great, despite Google translate not totally conveying the words properly. If someone could translate this more accurately, I'd be interested:

Could someone who can read the original Japanese tell me if this has anything to do with voice chat or modification of the player's voice, or is it just talking about the character's voice?

The drakes and bombs look really cool. I am glad to see the bombs as mobs in XIV. They have always been one of my favorite enemies throughout the whole Final Fantasy series.

Love that Gobbues are back

Me and them had many great memories, and the times that they shared their tree cuttings were even more great.

Yeah, try xping off of them sometime. Antiphase sucks. Ah, the joys of xping in a crowded Boyahda tree and having to take Elders because there are no Steelshells, Korrigans, or Processionaires up.

Nothing about voice chat or anything like that.

That's the first time I've seen the skill selection screen. One bank of 30 slots for main abilities, and then two additional banks of 10 each. Fist set is 27/52 (a point system similar to Blue Magic, perhaps?) and then the alternate banks are empty and 0/20.

Gosh I wish I could read Japanese, so I could pick up a few clues.

Has anyone noticed a trend of having mobs of different colors in the groups? Spriggans, crabs and the mobs in the benchmark are mostly or partly composed of of one color and then one or two mobs have a different color. Kind of reminds me of earlier FF games where the one with the different color was usually stronger. Wonder if that will be the case here.

There's other fan-based E3 coverage where UI screens are floating around in English

Looks like Passive traits are back.

By the by, I believe the Icons on the top right are representative of each class.
You'll probably click on each, and the list below will populate with the skills you've learned from that weapon. There's obviously some icons missing. The official site has 14 classes. That Miner pickaxe near the bottom could possible imply it extends onto the second row for a total of 17 classes. (Although the second row can just be indented 3 spaces on both sides)

Awesome information, thank you. Rate ups for you!

Okay, looks like it does work like Blue Magic except you slot passive and active abilities separately.

Can some one clear up what "synthesis abilities" means? If there were trade skill related, it seems as if they would simply be like normal passive or active abilities, but tied to the appropriate DOH/DOL class/tool.

To clarify, the first set of skills allows you to equip up to 30 abilities to use in combat. The second box is for traits, like HP Up or Dualwielding (just examples, not confirmed), and the last box is for noncombat abilities like crafting. For example, if you want your Archer to be able to craft arrows, you could put your Carpentry skills into this box so that you don't have to change to Carpenter between battles.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

A hungry Salamander is best to be avoided -- there are records indicating one of these beasts swallowed a Lalafell whole!

I'm having Return of the Jedi flashbacks now. I can just see a cutscene where a Lalafell Conjurer jams its staff into the salamander's mouth to keep from being eaten.
