Finding a party - What's new?Follow

The #1 complaint: Can't find a party. And the #1 response: Make one!

This defined FFXI for years, then Level Sync appeared. Which makes me wonder a few things about the upcoming party system for FFXIV:

1.) Will Level Sync be available at launch? (What's that you say, no levels? Ok then how about Skill Sync or the equivalent?)

2.) Will they do away with the auto-party option that was never used? (Surely.) Will it be replaced by a similar system that is never used?

3.) Will there be a specific in game location dedicated to forming parties? (A 20-foot tall neon arrow that points to a sign that says "LEVEL 10-20 PARTIES FORM HERE!")

4.) What is the level (skill) gap? Will exp be scaled depending on your party's (skill) gap?

Seems like such a major issue that has received very little attention. I know some people here have a much better handle on the design considerations than I do. Anyone care to shed some light on SE intentions?

FFXI had an auto-party option? I'm not even joking...I didn't even know that.

I've got no idea what they'll do to ease partying, personally. One of the things that bugged me was how severe the exp penalty due to level gaps between members was. It was hard enough finding 6 people all around the same level. Thankfully, I doubt that issue will raise its ugly head again.

There was an autogroup feature. If you were flagged as autogroup, and 5 or more others of similar level (I forget the range) were also flagged as autogroup, and you were in the same area (I don't rememeber if that meant same zone or same region), the game would, without conformation or notice, group the 6 of you together. It would try to make sure there was a healer in the group usually, but other than that, all bets are off.

It wasn't really used because no one really used it. I know that sounds redundant, but it's true. It only worked if a lot of people used it, and since most didn't know about it (or knew that most other people didn't use it), they didn't bother using it themselves. The fact that the results of using it were usually less than stellar (remember: few people used it so it only had what it had to work with, which wasn't much) didn't help this either.

In the end, most of the people using it only used it so their red {!} stood out in a sea of green {!}s.
