It's a new feature...not from FFXI. Basically, the retainer acts as an NPC "mule" that you can use to hold/sell your items whether or not you're logged into the game.

It's been mentioned something along the lines of what Blizzard created for Remote Auctions. The retainer acts as your "link" to the active game world when outside of the game. I don't personally know if it's been further detailed by SE, however I would speculate this would involve mobile apps or remote browser access to some extent.

Will it work in such a way that you'd be able to leave it up even when you're off adventuring in the game?

I meant when you're NOT logged off. As in, adventuring IN the game. Still logged in. Like, putting it in FF11 terms, If I'm off adventuring in ... Valkurm Dunes... Could I leave my retainer in Windurst selling stuff for me?

I'd wager that this is the case, considering that there isn't supposed to be an AH this time around. Unfortunately, I can't say that there's any official word on the matter that I'm aware of.

"I sold one ball of insect paste today! Kupo-po!"

If my moogle doesn't sell my stuff fast enough, I'm going to cook and eat his pom-pom.

I will still stubbornly call it a "retainer", sort of like I say "Monster" instead of "Mob" nowadays Smiley: grin

LOL! Well okay! But I can see when we're all actually playing, it'll be easy to spot who played FFXI amidst the crowd. I bet a lot of them still use expressions like 'Mule' or even use the old race names. Or even the Auto Translate expressions like 'Galkan' Sausage' '******* Sowrd' :D
