Special in-game itemsFollow

I want to be excited about the special items for collector's edition, pre-ordering, and the ffxiii code redemption. Obviously, without having played the game, I can't say how good various things will be, but maybe some others have insights into them.

The Garlond Goggles seem to me, by far, to be the best item out there. Regardless of the level of the boost, any nudge in progressing is enough to make me pay my $75 sooner rather than later.

The Asuran Armguards puzzle me a bit. The only description I've read of what they do is "improve the effectiveness of tools." My presumption is that this relates to gathering and crafting tradeskills, but maybe it's translated poorly and is meant to include weapons? While I imagine I'll take up crafting in some capacity, if the item is for tradeskill benefit only, it seems less fun to me.

The Onion Helm seems of dubious value. Anyone have any insight with respect to how KO and recovery works? I figure I'll purchase the collector's edition for the inclusion of the security token and for the early play, but I'm interested if anyone knows anything that can get me excited about the in-game item.

I like the use of in-game items!

From the sounds of things, the onion helm will just reduce the duration of weakness after being KO'd. The thing is, these items that SE is giving out as perks and bonuses either have to offer only a trivial benefit or they have to be offered in another form to other people. I don't own a PS3, I will probably never own a PS3, and even if I did it's much to late to be getting a first run copy of XIII. I'm not exactly about to cut myself over it but realistically speaking, why should people who bought XIII get an advantage of any kind in XIV?

Absolutely everything SE as done up to this point has been something I could live with even if it didn't strike me as ideally suited to my personal preferences, but this whole bonus items thing and the implications it can have for the micro-transaction aspect of the game really isn't sitting well with me.

I'm more concerned with whether PS3 players will have some way of obtaining the Onion Helm (outside of paying an additional $75 for a copy of the PC version). Hopefully they'll release a PS3 collectors edition, as I'd hate to miss out on the shinies in addition to having to wait another 6 months.

in each and every game i played they had these items and and in each and every one of them these items never efected the game play, the only one that did a bad efect was Aion with the wings that came with the CE, i had them and most of my friends didnt, and i had more fly time than them, but it got fixed 2 months later.

i think SE will do the same as the rest, and these items will mean nothing in 2-3 levels or other items will replace them.

I wouldn't be surprised to see these items available by the first Winter Solstice/Christmas event.

It's not uncommon for companies to show preferential treatment to repeat customers!

Back to the actual topic though:

- What's the duration of a KO weakness? Is it long enough that I'd want to wear the helmet just for that, especially since I don't intend to die much :)

- Any insight on the "tools" effectiveness?

I aggree with daour, every pre-order items MMos give up always have minimal effect. It will sound great maybe for a few days before you realize its not.

I learned not to pre-order just for getting a great sounding item.

From the press release:

"These players will also receive a pair of Asuran Armguards, an exclusive in-game item which enhances the effectiveness of their characters’ equipped arm or tool."

It will apply to weapons as well as crafting tools it seems, and they look really cool!

I would imagine tools effectiveness means how well you used your tools when crafting. Less crafting item loss or a higher chance to produce exceptional results, or something along those lines. I bet there will be equipment for high level crafters that improve crafting performance for one craft, but not a blanket item for all crafts.

I think if you think of it like tanners gear for tanning guild or the like in ffxi, except it gives +1 to all skill proficiencies instead of +3 to a single proficiency or something that you can probably get later on.

Ok, if the items are charge type items that run out in 5 or 10 uses, I can handle that. If there's a PS3 collector's edition that offers the same items, I'm even happier.

If this becomes a cash shop game I will definitely NOT be playing. Charging a subscription + extra for supplemental characters + extra for every retainer after your first + items that directly give an advantage is ridiculous, and I will be passing.

What are Asuran Armguards? This is the first I'm hearing of those.
