Couple Questions About Pre-OrderingFollow

I looked through some threads and didn't find the answers so:

If I want to get the items, does it matter if I pre-order from a real store instead of online? Does anyone know when pre-order ends? When they run outta copies, or what?

What exactly is this "Right of Passage" that you get with the CE? Something to do with the early access maybe?

Who calls them "Tumblers"? So crazy.

Tumblers is actually a pretty common name for a type of glass.

Not sure what the Rite of Passage is. Heh, I just noticed they used the wrong spelling of rite. Right in this case is incorrect.

I also am wondering if there's a difference in ordering in store vs online. I doubt there is though.

Pre-orders usually end within a week or so before launch unless they run out of copies, at which point they might end it earlier.

Usually preorder rewards change depending on the store, if they change at all, not on online vs store.

Also, when they say right of passage they could mean a literal right to pass from one place to another, like a passport (perhaps a means of bringing the name of your FFXI character to FFXIV as they have previously suggested but have said nothing about since then). Rite of Passage is an actual process someone goes through, such as a young boy might go through to become a young man.

I'm replying to this thread because I have another question:

I wanted to pre-order from BestBuy when I seen you can get a $10 gift card, but when I went into the store, they didn't even know about the game and when someone looked it up they said I couldn't pre-order because they hadn't got a card for the game yet. Has anyone else pre-orded FFXIV from BestBuy in-store?

I'm just worried that if I order it online, it wont arrive on the 30th or way late into the day. I might just get it from Future Shop and give up the $10 gift card they offer just because Future Shop doesn't seem to be as clueless as BestBuy.

No. I never pre order from Best Buy, and one of my best friends is a manager there. If you're worried about shipping and such pre order at a Game Stop type place if there's one in your area.

So then if I walk into Gamestop and the dude has a scaplel, I should cover my crotch and run?

Yeah, BestBuy really doesn't seem like they know what they're doing. I'm gonna get it from Future Shop tomorrow.

I have yet another question about pre-ordering: The pre-order bonus code will be included with in the box when I pick it up on the 30th, kinda like the FFXIII's code included in the first few boxes???? Or are you supposed get something right away when you pre-order?

I know that Age of Conan gave you codes as soon as you pre-ordered so... I don't have much experience with this and don't wanna miss out. Thanks everyone who has answered my newb questions already. :)

I agree that "right" of passage is correct - that it is a right to do something, but it's not literally a right. From looking at the CE online, it basically states that you will be getting an actual piece of paper - probably something you can hang on your wall like a poster - not something that gives you something special ingame. One site shows it as:

IN-GAME ITEM – Collector’s Edition preorders will include a reward code to receive an exclusive in-game item, the Onion Helm (an exclusive in-game item which accelerates character recovery after falling in battle).
•EARLY ACCESS – Play 8 days prior to the release of the Windows PC Standard Edition (timing of access subject to initial server capacity).
•BEHIND-THE-SCENES DVD – Get an insider look at the making of FINAL FANTASY XIV, with exclusive video content, interviews and more in this special documentary DVD.
•SECURITY TOKEN – A FINAL FANTASY XIV–branded Security Token for use with your regular password.
•TRAVEL JOURNAL – Record your travels in this beautifully bound journal filled with pages of never-before-seen concept art.
RIGHT OF PASSAGE Redeem a voucher to receive your fully-personalized Right of Passage Certificate, each stamped with a unique serial number.
•AMANO COVER – Special PC Collector’s Edition illustration by renowned artist Yosh*taka Amano.

At least that is the way I take it - you send in a voucher (probably so you can list your character name and such to have it on your certificate)and then you'll receive it back in the mail with your personalized certificate stamped with a unique seriel number.

Of course I could be wrong, but like I said - that's what I take it to mean. And you'll notice that the only ingame item is listed as an "ingame" item.

In any event - can't wait to get mine!

OH, and if you are going to pre-order from a store, I would suggest Gamestop - they do this stuff all the time and usually have a midnight opening for big games that are coming out. I've been to them for whenever Wow has had it's midnight releases of its expansions and such. I should think this game would definitely be one they would have a midnight release of. Check with your local Gamestop. And even if they don't have a midnight release opening, they will be much more reliable for picking up a game than a non-gaming store like Best-Buy, Walmart or Target.

Gamestop advertises as follows:

Pre-order Final Fantasy XIV Collector's Edition by Sep 21 at 11am CST with overnight shipping and get guaranteed delivery on the street date of Sep 22! If your product does not arrive on the street date, we will fully refund your shipping charge. Continental United States only. Must have Overnight Service available in your area. Offer void if you are unable to accept a delivery that was attempted. Not responsible for orders delayed due to inclement weather, incorrect address or credit card information.
