Think we will have to wait for the game to ship to our addresses, to be able to go online? i already pre-ordered the PC collectors edition with early access, but im in japan deployed to a marine base so it takes forever for games to reach me i order online?

any thoughts?

Considering you need to install the game I'd imagine you'd want to have the disc, yes.

Depends on if Square-Enix provides some way to download the game ahead of time.

I know with Aion the beta client served as the actual game client (maybe with some updates) and they also gave everyone who had participated in the open beta a grace period of a week or so where they could play even though the actual game (and presumably the key) hadn't arrived yet. Of course you still had to buy the game if you wanted to play pass that grace period though.

How'd you select to have it shipped to you? Online gaming stores always get their orders well before the street date. If you went with Amazon for example, I've heard they have a Release Date shipping option. You'd get it on 9-22. If you went with ground shipping... that's another story.

It's a TRAP! If you go with an online source, you'll be at the fickle tender mercies of the delivery driver. You might just find the "Sorry we missed you!" tag dangling on your door even though you were present.

Well unless Steam sells the game before Launch, there really is no quicker way to get it. I wonder if you could download the NA copy though and use a Japanese registration code from the JP version to register the game? Hmm. You could have someone buy you a copy stateside and then have them give you the codes. Then download the DVD through a torrent. I could offer to do that for you if you wished. But that seems to be about the only ways I can think of. Maybe a friend you trust can do it for you.

@Osarion: Sorry about that was just editing my post haha cause I caught what I said. I'm hopped up on some pain meds cause I have a tooth pain. I was in tears earlier. Vicodin ftw.

There will be multiple people that upload the entire DVD to ThePirateBay for backup purposes. Cause there are going to be many warped/cracked/broken DVDs due to people's initial excitement when opening up the box. I will probably personally put a torrent up as well. Just send me a PM in 3 months. Obviously you would still need your physical copy for codes. I am hoping that Steam is able to sell it on their website at launch, we got 3 months to find out. Because if you buy it on Steam, the registration code is shown right through your account. Don't need to download the game.

I suppose it really would have to be for backup only purposes, as the DVD itself is fairly worthless.

I can't speak for EVERY MMO out there, but it's usually a couple of years into release before a MMO developer will release a downloadable version. It'd be nice if they did though.

*edit*
Quick on the edit button there ^^

I feel for you OP, I was stationed in Misawa Japan when FFXI come out on and had to wait an extra week to play due to shipping. Hang in there bud and the wait will be over before you know it. It's worse when you go to the japanese store and see that shining copy of the game you can't get because it's in japanese lol.

A lot of games let you download the game early. Sometimes you can download the beta version of the game even if you don't have access to the beta and then update it when the game is released.

SE isn't really one of those type of companies to accommodate players, though, so I doubt they would make a downloadable version available. If you get into the closed or open beta you'll probably be able to update that but you can pretty much guarantee that you wont be able to download the beta unless you have a beta key. Even then you would need to have your product key which may or may not be given to you in an email upon purchase or near release.

Hey we must keep in contact, I live in japan too and we could play on the same server!
I ordered via amazon, it says that the deliver will be on 27-29, so I guess the extra days for the limited edition will be lost for me. Though I still hope they will deliver on 22, who knows... I played ffxi in Japanese, but I am not fluent enough to read all the names in katakana and it feels quite unnatural (cause they are always kinda indoeuropean names), so this time I'll have the English one!!

Well I live in the States now, was in Japan back in 2003. I think with APO shipping it's ground shipping which is the main reason it take the extra days. I did enjoying playing Japan mainly because NA primetime was in the morning and I worked nightshift. It was also fun playing with alot of JP simply because primtime was at the same time.
