Do you guys think the extra $25 is worth the stuff you get in the CE? If you didn't know what it includes, here you go:

The helm, Adventures branded tumbler, behind-the-scenes DVD, travel journal, map of Eorzea, security token, early access, and a guest pass.

What you get in the CE is different for each region.

8 days in advance is worth 25 dollars.

(if you fail at computers, and at life in general, security token will help you from being retarded enough to get hacked. so that makes it worth it too)

The two things that really convinced me to preorder the Collectors Edition is the Art Book or Travel Journal or whatever it is called. The other is the guest pass, because I am really trying to convince one of my good friends to start playing the game along with me.

Tanaka: Oh! There are indeed two different versions of objects that offer very useful for the beginning of the game, but it is more aesthetic objects than anything else. We did not want to create too large disparities between those who had a particular purpose and those who did not. We have therefore imposed certain limits on their usefulness, making sure you do not make them indispensable. This is a hat which can reduce the penalty on the dead because players tend to die easily at the beginning of the game regarding the glasses, they allow players to more easily catch those who have started one week in advance: it is faster for them to develop their talents.

Win.

Security token itself is $10, no?

I'd pay $25 just for early access, but that's b/c I can barely handle the anticipation.

Goggles blow the stupid helmet out of the water. Unless there is a pre-order sale on the collectors edition I can wait the 8 extra days to play. There's no reason to rush the game and get burnt out on all the initial content.

I think the CE is worth it. I'd probably skip it if it weren't for the early access, and while I don't think that alone is worth £13 more the other things more than make up for it.

As for the great debate, it depends how the items work but I can see the onion helm being very useful in end-game situations. What's going to help your linkshell/whatever more, a few extra skill ups or getting back into the fight faster?

And for not dying much, I wouldn't be so confident. As a new player you aren't going to immediately know which monsters you can handle. Even ones that look the same strength can be very different in battle and have crippling attacks. Just like in XI.

Do we even know if these items can only be obtained through purchasing or if they'll be in-game somewhere too?

I do, but of course, I'm not trying to sway anyone. Between the helm and the goggles, it's merely a cosmetic decision; I'm indifferent on the bonuses. For me, the CE is worth it just for the early access (although, I love maps). Do I care about being first? No. Do I plan on grinding out a job or craft? Nope. Do I need to find an item or a way to corner the market, so that I will have gil all the days of my life? Nopity, nopity, no. Am I just someone who is ridiculously excited to finally be able to play the next/newer/sequel version of my favorite MMO ever...?

Bingo. Now, if one of you will kindly pull me out of the freezer on Sep. 21...

Helm and Goggles will either have charges, or be for low levels only.

SE has stated in interview that they will not last forever, and their use will be limited.

This. Also, the freezer bit made me laugh. Is there a spot in there to hold someone until March?

I think the CE is worth it just for the security token and 8 days headstart. I started ff11 very late so I always had that "I wish I could've been there from the start" mentality & now's my chance. So obviously I'm really looking forward to that opportunity.

I agree with the people thinking that the goggles are there to boost players in an attempt to balance the 8 day headstart CE players get. If anyone's thinking of passing up the CE simply because of the shades looking "cool" then that's pretty silly IMO. I'm all for looking ridiculous...I wasn't afraid to be a lvl25 Galka mnk sporting the bastokan/republic subligars in the jungle baby! =D Being a Hellsguard Roegadyn with a silly little onion helm doesn't phase me, bring it on!

goggles but only because I knew I wasn't going to be able to get CE in time to enjoy the extra playtime - so it seemed like a waste of money

I can see both of these having use past the first few levels as long as they still remain the same and don't lose their effects. If they are usable beyond I see the helm reducing down time in endgame activities, and goggles be good for a max level character trying to cap their skills assuming some skills be harder to level than others (thinking of Guard). But only if they stay the same as when you first get them. If anything tho, I'd get helm just for looks. Onion Knight was my favorite character in Dissidea and I'd love the helm to wear around town regardless how funny it looks.

I picked the goggles. I don't really mind about the early access tho...I do wanna play as early as possible, but it's not like the 8 days would make a dramatic difference. Moreover, FFXIV doesn't have any PVP elements, so it doesn't really matter to be the first one cap the level. I'd rather take it slow and enjoy every bit of the game.

CE and therefore the helm. But I went CE to play a week earlier , not for any other reason. Its no huge deal, but those 8 days will help me (slow leveller) to be at the same point as the standard guys after 3. Yes in 10 days it won't matter, but clanmates coming in after 8 days will get much more help from me being slightly advanced. Weapons, Armour, Gil, Consumables, Knowledge. Its worth the cash to have that. If I get he helm then why sweat over the goggles. IDC.

I have to admit that I'm disappointed. I've already pre-order 2 copies of the CE for my girlfriend and myself and to find out that those goggles only come in the standard edition only is kind of a let down. Owell, guess I'll have to get over it by playing the game 8 days eariler.

Death penalty isn't significant anyhow, as far as I've heard.

Really between them it's 6 :: Half Dozen. After hearing certain rumors, I'm not sure that I care to spend $25 to play a little bit earlier anyhow, especially since I'm not convinced that things will be stable until January anyhow.
