The short answer? Not really. Laptops are not going to do well with FFXIV. Laptops lag far behind PCs in terms of performance with current technology and you need a pretty beefy PC to run XIV as it is. If you're **** bent on running the game on a laptop, you're going to have to spend some serious money to do so.

I'm not sure where you're doing your shopping, but what you just posted is a textbook, "People who buy our computers don't know wtf they're doing, so just give them some flashy numbers next to an attractive price and they'll buy it like candy." As a general rule, if the seller doesn't list the actual model number of the video card, it's crap.

But is everything else ok except for the unknown graphics card? I'm going to try and find out what model it is, Thank you so much for responding to me Are.

I think you would be disappointed with that PC. I'm probably not the best person to make that overall assessment, however, because I'm the same guy who says that if your new rig for XIV isn't worth $1000-1200, you're wasting your money. I'm sure some others will come along and offer a more objective point of view.

You can build a sub 1000 pc that will run XIV but you won't be able to buy it in a store. You'll either have to build it yourself through an e-tailer, or build it yourself. A XIV capable laptop would run in the neighborhood of $1400~1500 and again not in any store.

I just "built" a Phenom II X4 machine with dual 5770s that clocked in at $1,043 on ibuypower's website when you add the 4th of July 5% off coupon it clocks in at $991 (+ shipping & tax where applicable of course). So it can be done. If you're looking to try to play FF14 on a $500 machine, it just isn't going to happen for at least another year or two, maybe three. The most important part when looking to buy a computer is to figure out the specs that you're looking for, and then start rotating through several etailers about once a week. Eventually someone is going to offer a sale and you'll get what you want for a more palatable price.

Everyone keeps saying laptops aren't gonna run this so well so it's making me nervous. This is my system:

Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
Intel Core i5 540M 2.53GHz (3.06GHz Turbo Mode, 3MB Cache)
1GB ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5870
250GB 7,200RPM SATA-II HDD
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz

What do you think?

Actually, that's very helpful for future notice. Now I can pretty definitively state that it takes a Core i5/X4/i7/X6 and a 5870M to get 3000.

I've said it before:

-Costs less than $1000
-Is a Laptop
-Can play FFXIV

Pick two.

With an i5 Quad and a 5870, I would be expecting you to hit the 4500-5000ish range in a desktop.

From the JP benchmark posting site:

4155 5259 Radeon HD5850 TOXIC 1G win7(32bit) Intel core i5 750 @2.67 4.00GB

The passmark rating for the 5870m ranks it just below the desktop 4770 and well below the desktop 5770.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with your card, just that this is pretty much the upper limit when it comes to laptop performance; you're pretty much at it, and I can't imagine you didn't pay a pretty penny for that system.

It's very hard to get a good gaming laptop because the high end graphics cards in laptops don't stand up to the performance from their desktop counterparts, AND they cost more. It doesn't help that FFXIV's requirements to run the game on anything higher than minimum are exorbitant.

Your CPU and video would both need an update.

See here.

I appologize in advance, as I know there are alot of these questions out there.

I was planning on just playing 14 on ps, but I really wanted to start from release. I understand all the arguements in why it's really not an advantage but when playing 11 I was always jelous of the Jp players having a head start. I want to be the guy that finds out such and such drops whatever item or figure out ways to kill tough enemys so on so yes it is important for me.

I am looking for help with my computer as I know very little about them and I basicly want to know if at all possible if I can upgrade parts for decent cash without buying a new pc(btw I'm not looking for anything great just something to get me by until ps release)

again I know little about computers so bair with me please

on the front of my tower it reads:

Amd athion 64x2 processor
2gb ddr2 memory
500gb sata hard disk
supermulti drive
windows vista
ati radeon graphics (no other info :(. )

I did run the test I know it said something about no direct x found, I know that has to do with sound not sure what it is though and I'm sure I need to upgrade graphics card but will the rest hold me off decently unroll ps release

also note on the test thug I scored only a 380, seems stupidly low as I read under 1000 won't run the game, that's why I'm so confussed it can't be that bad can it? I know it's waaaaaay behind but I played wow on this comp with really no lag ever the grapics were poor I know that but no lag or choppiness

thanks for any advise

With my laptop I scored a ~3700 on Low and ~2250 on High.

The Benchmark did seem to be GPU heavy but comparing my results to Middle's it seems that the change from his i5 to the i7 that is in my system made the jump from 3000 to 3700. There is also the difference of RAM (4GB vs 8GB) but I wouldn't think the RAM would have made that much of a difference.

My relevant specs are below:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Processor: Intel i7-Q720 1.6GHz (2.8 with "TwinTurbo Mode" lol)
GPU: Mobility Radeon HD5870
HDD: 1TB 7200RPM
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1066MHz

Yes.

In a recent interview, they specifically stated they've made the requirements for PC a lot less demanding than what they had for the benchmark. Translation: you will be able to play the game on your computer unless your rig REALLY sucks.

Can you give us a source for this interview?

I want to say I say it on the JeuxOnLine interview, but I'm not 100% positive. I can tell you for certain, however, that the requirements did drop from the previous system requirements when they released the link I posted above (I have a second, old system that's almost identical to the min requirements posted there that scored under 1000 on the benchmark.)
